So I noticed the other day when I turn right that I get a clicking noise from the front passenger side wheel area. This is also coupled with steering wheel shake that gets noticeable around 40 mph and up. I just checked my bearings the other day and they are tight and all my lugs are on good. Any ideas what it could be? Could it possibly be tie rods? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does it click once, or multiple times when you turn?
I'm sure once you get an alignment, the shop doing it will most likely advise you have something fixed if the clicking will affect the alignment. |

I would start by checking the bearing and axle on that side.

I know this sounds like a noob question, but what is the best way to check the axle?

I got a chance to look under and there seems to be a whole bunch of grease and nastiness on the back of the brake area and what not. Drivers side seemed pretty clean... at least for a 16 year old car, just seems like typical dirt on that side. I was doing research too and came to the same conclusion as you did. If it is the axle, does anyone know if Advance Auto Parts axles are any good or is there a name brand I should go for?

You'll be fine with the Advance Auto parts axles, so there is no need to get OEM or any name brand ones. As long as you get the axles specifically for your model celica it's all good.

I got an advanced auto axle on my driver's side and it seems to work pretty well, although it is the 2nd one. (The first one from advanced snapped a joint and i had to pull it again.) Hopefully you have better luck than i do. Otherwise Cardone makes a reliable axle but they are one the pricey side i believe.

I have a similar problem that may help you
When I get to about 65 mph my car starts vibrating and the steering wheel shakes back and forth very badly.. well I replaced the outter tie rod ends and magically the vibration stopped alot, I can hit 70 with a little vibration, so I need to change out my inner tie rod ends and get an alignement, that should take care of the back and forth with the steering wheel as for the popping, sounds like axels might be bad. |

Thanks for all the info guys. How hard is it to replace the passenger side axle by myself? Is it as easy as just removing everything pulling the old one and putting the new one in?
