So i noticed today my clutch is slipping when i get on the throttle, engine revs but car doesnt accelerate as much. The car is driven everyday mostly highway, but some stop and go traffic. Im trying to figure out how much time i have left until it neeeds replaced. I leave for basic training in 3 months so i dont want my fiance stranded on the sie of the road. any thoughts?

Well if its slipping, your going to have to chnage it sooner or later. So order a clutch and do it?

depending how you drive, but i hate if i were driving on the freeway and it just slows down dramatically and if you can't pull to the emergency lane...you'll cause a lot of trouble.

granny driving....not riding on clutch as much, ranges from a month to two or three....excessive driving...burn clutch more...you're in deep SH!T.

Just change it...get the heavy burden off your back....i suggest do it yourself....or pay $600-up for a mechanic to do it...or ask other members on this forum to help you...treat them to some baby back ribs and beer or carbonated drinks and you're good...at least that'll work for me.

Don't mean to thread jack but im in the market for a new clutch as well. But whats the difference between an exedy oem replacement, and one straight from the dealer either than the price? cause the dealership wanted like 450 bucks or something rediculous like that.

Exedy is just as good as the oem from the dealership because well, their product are a direct fit and they & either meet or exceed the oem performance rate....toyota is toyota and aftermarket, well, sometimes it just good to get aftermarket....no matter how...toyota won't last longer or shorter than aftermarket...BECAUSE, it depends how you drive and how much you step on clutch, especially when you leave it on first gear while holding the clutch down and waiting on a red light.

not much difference....but if you talk about performance clutches for racing....differ because of the material use for the clutch...ceramic...steel...extra...i don't know full extent...but just get the aftermarket "Exedy" and save yourself some money...go oem if you can afford....save and buy a exedy clutch and use the rest of the money to do some matience like change your transmission fluid if you haven't for a long time....or just send it to me for the "CHA foundation" to provide a 3sgte to the celi.

Exedy make a fine clutch, i prefer to deal with someone that has fantastic customer support www.dxdracingclutches.com is southbend clutch. talk to ansy in the imports department and he will hook you up. tell him i sent you. my name is jeff by the way. I have a southbend in all my cars (except supra, they dont make a twin disk) and im super happy with them.

good luck in basic training, where are you going and what MOS?

So for a basically stock motor an excedy oem replacemen will do just as good as one from toyota?

Any clutch kit will do really. Exedy is a reputable clutch company, but the basic clutch disk is organic theres nothing special about it at all. Just see whats on the market and for what price you can get it.
