QUOTE you can raise the pressure as well with an aftermarket FPR to pump out more fuel, along with an addition of a higher rated fuel pump(walhbro/aeromotive/supra), though usually not recommenmended. Why is that not recommended? Just the pump not recommended or the FPR? |

Two reasons why i said that. One is because people tend to not install a Fuel pressure gauge to see what they are setting their pressure at. Too high or too low than stock can have obviously detrimental effects on your engine. Secondly some stuck up folks out there think this cheap and easy method to free up some horsepower think this is either ghettor or dangerous. It can be (IMHO anything dealing with fueling can be or engines or cars in general) but if you do things smartly and research first it really is an effective way to take your 540cc injector and increase its output by a slight percentage and therefore get slightly better fueling. Its not soemthing i would do (by itself) for a high hp build, but if i didnt really want to heavily modify my 3sgte and just wanted a few extra hp, then sure why not.
But in the long run, nothing can replace a proper setup with new injectors ( or ported), tuned ECU, and proper FPR/fuel pump combo. Read up on these articles/video for what i mean. true they represent a differnt engine, but the method and such is the same. http://www.stealth316.com/2-fpr_upgrade.htm http://www.hotrodhigh.ca/Pressure.html -------------------- (\__/)

Fair enough. yeah I understand the basics...I have had some excellent results with other cars by simple mods, and increasing air/fuel flow is where to start with a compression engine. Running lean is not something you want to do of course as you say, but installing a better fuel pump is not gong to do that! I cant see myself going more than what the stock injectors will take so its not much of an issue for me - I replaced the fuel pump as it needed doing, and didn't seem to make sense to replace it with stock!
My idea at the moment is to sort out a wideband sensor, and see how its running in that respect - and then perhaps decide if a FPR is required...if it is not leaning out with my current state of tune then there isn't much point. |
