Hey guys my names Jake i just bought a 1994 celica gt went to test drive it all was fine drove it home about 15 miles and looked down the temp gauge was pegged on hot! checked the coolant it was not very low i topped it off and drove it through town..the temp gauge never went above half only drove it for maybe 10 minutes though... the guy i bought it from said he bought it with a bad radiator and he put a new one in and swapped the leather interior out for is gt four and put the car up for sale is it a possibility tht the previous owner drove it so hot it blew the head gasket and thats whats causing it to overheat? any ideas guys? thanks

if you dont wanna wait for it to heat up, unplug the ECT switch from the radiator. Fans should come on if you unplug that. Make sure that the key is in On position before unplugging.

the unplugging to test your fans, leaves the fan switch out of the equation. that failed on my car and caused it to overheat...

also make sure the sure u "burped" the engine by pouring coolant while the car is on if you havent, some times it takes a while to get it right, previous owner might have not done it

If not, check the fan main relay, cooling fan relay, cooling
fan, fuses, and check for short circuit between the cooling
fan relay and ECT switch.
