Ok, I have 1997 Toyota Celica ST 1.8L limited edition. The car has 184XXX miles on it. The car is a automatic. Starting about three months ago the idle has become low when at running temp. When I'm in stop and go traffic for more then 20 mins I have to drive two footed or the car will die. When it does die it takes about 40 mins before it will start again. There are five codes that come up today when autozone read the codes. Those include: P0401, P0110, P1300, P0120, and P0401 again. The car has had a tune up in the past month(plugs, wires, rotor, cap, didn't get a new fuel filter). Had a oil change about 200 miles ago. I just don't know what is going on with this car. The throttle body has been all cleaned up also. any help would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Daniel aka Celica1997

egr flow too low
intake air temp sensor malfunction
ignitor issue
tps circuit malfunction

take your throttle body off and clean it thoroughly. pay attention to the idle control valve...

I have already cleaned the throttle body very very good.
Autozone gave me print outs of all the codes with probable causes just wondering what to do. Buy every single part and see if it works or what? Any tests I can do?

adjust the throttle stop and recalibrate the TPS. either replace the IAC or take it apart and REALLY clean it. Carbon likes to clog it up.

there is a way to test your egr. let the engine idle, and apply vac to your egr valve(it has only one vac port) the engine should stall.

i was having an egr code, and autozone suggested my EGR valve. i did that test and found the valve was okay (saved a siht ton of $ and time on that...)

it turned out to be the vacuum modulator (the thing next to the egr valve with 3 vac ports) i replaced that and the cel went away after a few days...

the ignitor issue, though, worries me....

Ok so I have been working on my car all week. I took all of the intake system off my car (throttle body to the injectors everything! I got two cans of throttle body/ intake cleaner and went to work! Lol. There was a LOT of carbon throughout the intake system. The egr value was completely blocked. Cleaning just the egr value took almost a whole can of cleaner. Anyway I got the whole system clean and looking good. Replaced the vacuum lines. I also changed the fuel filter. Then I ran the car on the highway for about 10 miles and took it back to autozone to pull the codes. This time the only codes that comes up now is the P1300. P1300 is a igniter circuit malfunction(no.1). Could my spark plugs be gaped wrong? Is it my ignition switch? Is it my msd ignition? Or is it something else?

Thanks,

If your going to clean grim and such just buy carb and choke cleaner, it works alot better; always had a can with me when dealing with the dirtbike and such.

That could be the root of the problem, do you know how to put it back to stock to make sure?

the 7afe has an integrated coil/ignitor/dizzy assembly. if that ws hooked up, it would bypass the stock ignitor and cause that code.. but it'd be difficult to hook up. take some pics of the dizzy area as the wires would have to go in there somehow

I would uninstall that unit and see if the problem goes away. It looks like someone installed it to bypass the rev limiter which of course means they were winding the **** out of the engine which is no good for it so...yea don't buy a modded car.
