i have stripped my damn axle nut and can't get it off...tried pb, wd40, breaker bar and now even an impact wrench at 345ft-lb and it still won't turn....it is on the passenger side and now with all those method, the nut is completely destroyed. im so at a lost right now...any ideas i can get this piece of crap off without having to cut the axle or mess up the threads on the axle spindle?

if you have access to a welder, weld on the socket, itll allow you to really torque on that thing with a long breaker bar and/or a VERY long pipe.
NO JOKE i used a 20ft piece of pipe to break one... and it still took a lot of effort -------------------- QUOTE "And, as always, your friendship, help, and dedication to the advancement of Texas Celica dominance is GREATLY appreciated. problem is, i can't use the socket anymore because it is so damn stripped...wish i could just drive it to the mechanic shop, but my tires are blown and i needed to remove it so i can change the wheel bearing; breaker bar isn't good if i can't even put a socket on to grip it...they don't make big size nut removers in size 32mm. 32mm just spins freely on the nut and as i down grade to 30mm, it is too small...went standard 1-1/4 and still too big. went with 1-1/8 and that is too small still, im going CRAZY. spent 3-4 days now

hint: dont put the socket on the nut the whole way to when you weld it. barely put it on the nut, and run a fat bead between the socket and nut.
i mean it doesnt really matter if it goes on or not. as long as its pretty centered on the bolts and you get a good weld between the two. -------------------- QUOTE "And, as always, your friendship, help, and dedication to the advancement of Texas Celica dominance is GREATLY appreciated. damn...wish i could do that, but i don't have any access to a welding tool or a welder. Do you think I can cut it...it looks like soft metal...the nut is from an aftermarket axle found in any kragen or autozone store. i don't mind breaking the nut as i have spares, but i don't want to damage the thread since it is still good.

You could (i have seen it done and have done it at a autoshop but at your own risk) use a VERY heavy duty center punch and a heavy hammer angle the center punch from the top towards the loosening side and wack it it done right with enough force will loosen it a lil then keep wacking it till it spins although don't do it straight into the axel don't know how to explain it very well.

thank you for all those response...with it being in the front of the car, it's the hub that has the loop protruding outwards that makes it hard for me to get any room to hit it with. back to point A.
worst of the worst case scenarios, ill have to cut that axle and get a new axle, which im trying to avoid at all cost. just got this axle this summer. don't know if lifetime warranty will cover intentional sawing through the axle. This post has been edited by chacha: Oct 28, 2011 - 4:10 PM |

I had a similar issue, although the nut was not on the axle. I used a die grinder (but im sure that any decent rotatory tool will suffice), but I pretty much cut it off very carefully, as it got close to the threads I used a flathead to break apart the nut.
