I swapped the fifth of the Camry to my 3rd Gen s54 and it worked it dropped my rpms by 1k. Now I can cruise it on 5th. But the only thing I didn't like was that that 5th gear uses a single syncro and my other used a double syncro. i have red some of the threads, i was wondering if anyone has changed out their fifth gear from a s54 to s51? was wondering if the rpm drop was drastic? also if anyone has completly re-geared their s54 from first thru fifth? the reason i ask is because my third gear grinds and the front shaft bearings sounds like its gone bad already. so since im going to crack it open was wondering if i can re gear it. aside from finding a lsd for it. I just did it on my 95 Beams vert. At 65 mph the rpms dropped from 3200 to about 2800. I'm running 16 inch tires. Also, after one tank of gas, driving carefuly, I got 35 mpg vs 31 mpg with old set up. So you just made your first statement invalid with the second statement. You said it dropped 1k (equal to 1,000 rpm's), then said it dropped from 3,200 to 2,800, which is only a 400 difference (600 less than 1k). So which is it? (though I'm guessing it was only a 400rpm drop) |

I'm runing 205/50/15, with old set up I was doing 80 at 4k now I'm doing 80 at 3k if I remember correctly, does anyone know if the final drive of the fifth Gen celica is the same or taller than the sixth Gen? I know their fifth is the same as my sixth gen. Reguardless I'm going to tare those Trans aparot and find out form my self.

thats your problem no wonder why your gears are so short. you have small diameter wheels.
yes the s53 final gear drive is a 3.9 which will make all the gears that much longer. Just get 17 inch rims, use this speed calculator to see what best suits your needs. http://www.boosttown.com/gearbox_different..._calculator.php -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts
