I have'nt decided yet, but I'm thinking about purchasing some after market wheels.Probably won't go for anything bigger than the stock size of 15x7, but I might if I find something that looks good on it.

I'm tired of the factory original wheels coming up warped everytime I get the tires rotated. My 94 had one wheel warped prior to my wreck, and afterwards one more came up warped, and it was'nt even the front wheel, go figure.

Just bought a 95 to replace it and it has one wheel warped and the rest are pitted a little from the previous owner not cleaning the car regularly.Even bought a new wheel off ebay awhile back, and the paint job on it does'nt match the wheels on either car.It actually looks better, but who can afford to buy 3 more like it from toyota?Let alone take a chance on them getting warped again so easily.

So out of 9 factory wheels, I have 5 that look great(2 of which are now warped, and 1 that does'nt match any of the others) and 4 that look like they need a new paint job(1 of which is warped).I thought about putting the best looking wheels on the drivers side, the 2 that look bad on the passenger side, and use the one that does'nt match real well as a spare. But I hate to have 2 rough looking wheels on my car.

I have'nt bought after market wheels since I was a teenager many, many years ago, so I'm asking for some of you to post thoughts on what brands I should check into.I want something for all seasons(even though we don't get alot of snow), something easily cleaned(don't want something that I have to use a toothbrush to clean areas not easily accessable), something sturdy or warranted(tired of warped wheels).I keep my car cleaned regularly, but would prefer something thats does'nt rust or flake off.

So if some of you can give your honest opinions on after market wheels, or if you have links to sites of the wheel distributors, or even pics of your own wheels and and whether you recommend them or not, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
Greg

How much are you looking to spend? Also, are you concerned with wheels having a light weight, so that your performance is better?

Price is not a problem, but I would prefer for the car to be worth more than the wheels. biggrin.gif

As far as being lightweight, it does'nt matter as I use my car as a daily driver for now.

Nope, I saw them for myself being spun at a local tire store. Why they are warping so easily is beyond me.The first car had all good wheels on it when I bought it and I had brand new tires installed. After about 30,000 miles the first wheel showed the warping, and I have not figured out why, I had'nt hit anything, no potholes, curbs, etc.The second wheel got bent in my wreck from the car sliding around sideways I guess, because it was fine prior to the wreck. The bad part was it was'nt the wheel in front like you would think in my sig pic, it was the back wheel on that same side.Must have been alot of force on that back wheel when I slide around so fast after ramming into that car.

I have 15" Mille Miglia Evo rims, I purchased from Tirerack (.com), a sponsor on this site. These are high quality, very stylish, bright silver finished, Italian rims. I have had my set for 3.5 years, and they look as good as the day I bought them. They are about 18 lbs per wheel. Mille Miglia are usually wheels you would see on a European import! Go to www.tirerack.com to check them out on a 6th Gen Celica (the site allows you to view all the wheels that will fit a particular model, on that actual model! Very cool feature). However, there is a chance they don't have the 15" size available, but will for other Mille Miglia wheel models. Hope this helps.

and its exactly that... generic

it doesnt give personal expirences with companys which can be VERY helpful in selecting a business to purchase rims from (one of the reasons i went with wheelmax was bojangles' expierence w/ them)

i honest don't think you should be a moderator with your attitude (no, i'm not saying i should be.) so quick to yell at someone for asking a SIMPLE question. you should be telling him somewhere to get rims or DON'T POST. OK? in the time you wasted typing your worthless message you could have cut and pasted the links.

the list is there for people go do their research, price compare, find different options. what im saying is go there look around find something you like. ask if people have bought things from those specific vendors, those specific wheels, get peoples opinions on specific things you are interested in. if you ask generic questions, so you will get generic answers, dont waste MY time arguing about something as bottom feeding as this. do your own homework, we provide all the stuff you need right there, neverstop has gone to great lengths to compile it all and now doing even more by seperating it in his spare time. dont waste his time by not even using it for what it was put there for.

Boosted_K2 please don't take offense to this, but maybe I can explain some of this to you, and help you be a better moderator in the future. Not trying to tell you how to do your job here, but trying to explain 2 points of views(yours and ours) each of your replies presented.

First I want you to notice the date I joined this site(since it's posted on every post I make), Member Since Nov 6, '03.I think that makes me a newbie does'nt it? I would think so, but you might consider me a veteran for all I know. Now as a newbie I have'nt navigated this whole site yet and discovered all the features it has to offer. But I hope other members can direct me to the right thread when I post something that may have already been discussed, and without criticism making me seem unintelligent.Being a newbie does not mean you are stupid, it means you are new here, and may need help finding something from other board veterans or moderators, and when I become a veteran I hope to do the same in return to the people who are than newbies.

Now let's look at your first post:

QUOTE

I first got offended by this post you made because being a newbie here, I did'nt catch on to your abbreviation of the (GD)general discussion board, I thought you were trying to be a wiseguy trying to use abbreviations instead of cuss words so you would'nt get into trouble with the owner(s) of this site. And with the exclamation points added to the end, that did'nt make it much better.

Now go back and reread it like maybe a newbie might, sounds entirely different from what you meant does'nt it?I almost posted some thoughts on here the first day I saw that myself which would have gotten me banned, but I'm glad I did'nt.I just could'nt figure out why a moderator would be so harsh about a question. It took me 2 days to figure out that GD meant general discussion and not what I first thought, and than I went to that board and found what you were talking about. And by the way, thanks for directing me there, some really good links there but no customer feedback represented, which is also something I wanted. And I think that is why Andason posted his thoughts about your post, and I thank him for doing so because he understood I wanted some feedback on some of these businesses.

Now for your second post:

QUOTE
the list is there for people go do their research, price compare, find different options. what im saying is go there look around find something you like. ask if people have bought things from those specific vendors, those specific wheels, get peoples opinions on specific things you are interested in. if you ask generic questions, so you will get generic answers, dont waste MY time arguing about something as bottom feeding as this. do your own homework, we provide all the stuff you need right there, neverstop has gone to great lengths to compile it all and now doing even more by seperating it in his spare time. dont waste his time by not even using it for what it was put there for.

It seems from this post I was the one asking the generic question and was the one you were telling not to waste yours and neverstop's time.My post was never to waste anybody's time, it was to get information and opinions from other members about companies that make after market wheels.

Like I stated in my original post it has been years since I bought after market wheels(like in the late 70's and early 80's).Could I answer questions about the wheels made in that era? Probably, some wheels from that era had center cap problems(always coming off), others would break or crack when mounting tires on certain types of mounting machines, some had this little pieces to go under the lugs to cover the slot that was made to be a universal fit(which alot of people did'nt care for), and others required frequent cleaning and polishing or else they would rust.

This is the type of information I wanted to know before I check into buying new wheels.I figured the younger members of this board could clue me into the things to watch out for when buying a set of todays after market wheels, because I am clueless about them anymore, and most of them and their friends probably have bought wheels and know the good and the bad as to each company.

I hope this helps you understand this whole situation better, and I hope I did'nt offend you for showing how your posts could be misunderstood from someone new to the site. But it is my belief this site was set up for information on 6th gen Celica's, and the more members you have, the more informative and better the site will be.

And to everyone who reads this, please understand that not everyone who comes here is knowledgable about the terminalogy used here, be considerate and try to use the abbreviation and the exact wording the first time you post something in a thread.Just because someone does'nt know what or where your talking about, does'nt make them stupid, it means they are uninformed so be considerate and point them in the right direction.Being helpful might make you feel good!! smile.gif

Examples:just from a few posts

ECU- I know it's the cars computer but I have no clue to what the letters stand for or where the thing is located on my car.Remember not everone has torn their car apart before.I had my first Celica for 5 years and never did anything but replace the brakes and change the oil.

LSD- not a clue here what your talking about

These are just some examples, so please nobody get offended if I used an abbreviation from your post.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now back to the thread at hand, does anybody know the specifications on the factory wheels?

offset:??
anything else I should be aware of?

And if the wheels are not the same offset, what will fit before rubbing something or sticking out so far they look tacky?

And which way does the offset number affect the position of the wheels under the fenderwheel? Does higher the number make it stick out more or go closer to the strut?

The pictures show what I am trying to stay away from, I hate seeing cars with the wheels sticking out like that.

no problem at all, thanks for the feedback, with the post count off its hard to distinguish whos been here for how long and im definatly guilty of not looking at peoples' register dates. anyways im sorry you felt offended as to my post, the exclamation points were put there to emphasis the importance of such a great thread neverstop put togeather for the site, i feel its one of the key points seperating this board from most others and i feel like im one of the only people who ever used it, so i put the exclamations there to signify the importance i put on that thread, not to say, drive my point in sternly, like i see you have taken it. After reading it again i see how you got the wrong impression sorry about that.

i focused my response on your question about which brands to look at, which is a question that comes up often, i forgot however to respond to your other question.

Wheels these days are coated quite differently then the old wheels you are acustom to. Most wheels these days wont have the rust problems, but common problems are flaking of the finish, staining and fading. any lower priced wheel will usually have staining or fading problems if they arent taken care of atleast once a week. i do not recommend to anyone to keep their wheels on in the winter (if you have a winter), for the following reasons:
1)salt and poluted water/snow/slush fades and stains the finish. if you have chrome wheels you may experience some rust like the older wheels you are used to. i know some places are switching from a NaCl deicer to a KCl, which doesnt promote rust as bad, but it still eventually will have the same effect if you dont take care of it.
2)these types of wheels are usually mounted with some decent performance tires, which are absolutely horrible in bad weather. I.E. i love my kumho 712 tires to death in the dry weather, but even in the rain they are all over the place, i couldnt imagine trying to use them in the winter.

as far as offset goes, i cant remember exactly what it is measuring from, but between 35-45MM is a standard offset for the celica.

other notables, they now have out a specific wheel wax that supposedly protects aganst scuffs and scratchs, that sort of thing. and like you said just keep them clean, excessive brake dust can stain and fade some finishes too so just need to keep them clean. another trick is to use EBC greenstuff break pads, if your rotors are in good condition you get virtually no brake dust.

brands ive delt with that ive liked: i have a set of enkeis, love them, good price from whalentire.com and discount tire co., the ones that i have are a bit heavy (20.2 LBS per wheel). i also have a set of speedlines that are on my MR2 and they are sweet, i bought my MR2 with theses wheels and they are a bit faded, id expect theyve been on there a long time, and yes on these i do have 1 or 2 centercaps that are loose, i dont have that problem with the enkeis. my friend had motegis, they are nice, no problems at all with them. umm.... one of my friends has a set of RHE C5s on his eclipse, heard nothing but good things there as well... hope this helps ya!
