Hi, all
I wanna know how much of a 3S-GE engine and where I can get it, and also does it worth to swap into the GT model, cos I don't have enough money to sway a 3S-GTE engine. mad.gif mad.gif

Hi,
Nice to see another person from Washington. smile.gif I'm down in Yakima right now, but I'm usually up in Bellingham for college.

Anyway, the 3S-GE engine found in the sixth generation Celicas/Currens is probably going to be hard to get a hold of, though the same generation 3S-GE may be available in the US, and I know that some other generations of the 3S-GE are available in the US for sure. If you're looking for a red top BEAMS 3S-GE with VVT-i, know that those are very expensive and hard to come by. There are some links on sticky thread at the top of this forum in the "Feasible Engine Swaps" thread about where to find some engines. Also, you may want to try contacting Nix99 since they're in Lynnwood. wink.gif

As far as labor is concerned, I'd imagine that the amount of labor would be very close to as much labor as a 3S-GTE swap would require. The 3S-GTE swaps have been done and are documented, so getting help for a 3S-GTE swap would be easier than getting help for a 3S-GE swap. Are you planning on doing the swap yourself, or having somewhere else do it?

U could also revise the whole engine to a 3sgte, just replace all the parts of ur current engine with parts of the 3sge. This costs more but then u got new parts and a kick ass car.

I would save ur money until u can do a 3sgte swap or replacement. I got the 175 bhp 3sge and its nice, but i think it doesnt do any justice with a fast looking car like the celica. Its still slow. The 3sgte is perfect.

Finding a 3sgte engine is very difficult, so im saving for a revision of my engine (to a 3sgte), or ill save some more and buy a GT four.

First of all, thx a lot of ur opinion!!
By the way, I know the 3S-GTE engine has much power and potential than the 3S-GE engine, but the main point is if I gonna swap the 3S-GTE engine, I also need to change the transmission of my car, right. It will cost it much more expensive than I just swap a 3s-ge engine. By the way, I have already asked many car shops in WA, they all told me that they didn't have enough confidence to make a perfect swap into my car, so I am very scare there will be many problems in the future, especially I gonna change the transmission of car from FF to AWD. At last, do u guy know how much of the VVTi-Beams 3S-GE engine in the States right now, and also is it the VVTi engine is as same as Honda V-tech engine ka??
Moreover, u guy told me that a guy Nix99 who is also in Lynnwood, right??
so can u give me his/her e-mail to me ar? Coz I can communicate my first Celica friend here!! Thx a lot, man.. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

if you get the 3sgte you won't have to make you car AWD you'll use the 3sge tranny anyway if not the 5sfe tranny...

you can always try looking on ebay i just saw a beam red top the other day...

and i think the toyota rav4 sport awd has the 3sge engine so you could look around junkyards to see if you find one...

However, those of us in the US with the 115hp ST or the 135hp GT would LOVE to have 175hp, (better than 30% improvement!- without a turbo or SC!) ,,, all things are relative,,,

and as far as a swap, a 3s-ge should be the exact same procedure as a 3sgte, just leave out the steps dealing with the turbo. should be an easier swap,

At last, do u guy know how much of the VVTi-Beams 3S-GE engine in the States right now, and also is it the VVTi engine is as same as Honda V-tech engine ka??

The Beams version is not availiable in the US. Actually, there is only one version availiable in the US, and that's the 1st generation 3sge that came in the old 4th gen Celica GTS. It wasn't very powerful... only about as powerful as a 5sfe. As for the Beams, you can probably have one imported for around 3-5 grand... They're not cheap.

Again comes the question of VVTi vs. Vtec. Let me tell you now... it's no comparison... especially since you mention Honda's 'K' series. The 'K' series motors are pretty fricken awesome... IMO, one of the best 4 cylider n/a motors there is. When compared to the Beams 3sge, it's probably around 3 to 4 times more complicated, with 2 stages of vtec, high-compression, torque and POWER... the K series is by far Honda's best. The Beams cannot compare. In fact, many that have worked with the Beams 3sge say it's very overrated at 200 hp... by 10 hp or more. The Beams is a good motor, however, it wouldn't be worth the extra few thousand it costs over the 3rd or even the 2nd gen 3sge's (non-TVIS 180hp and TVIS 160 hp respectively).

Yeah, like Kwanza said, DOHC VTEC is far more advanced and yields much higher gains than Toyota's VVT-i. VVTL-i is a lot more like Honda's DOHC VTEC than VVT-i is. Also, Nix99 is a big Toyota/Lexus yard in Lynnwood where they have all kinds of Toyota parts. smile.gif
