Ok let me first say that zfjohnson bought the car not running from the PO and the damage wasnt discovered till this video.
Enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w8a48mRdgc...be_gdata_player Right now he is debating his options- replace the shortblock, swap in a 4age, or upgrade to GT driveline and seap in an S series engine |

thats fantastic!!! id stay away from the $a, IMO its just not worth it. if you were going to spend the money on a 5S, then why not just drop in a 1MZ? I know, im a V6 fan boy now

well im not too good with engines, so my intent was to put a 7afe with low mileage in it and get good gas mileage, but if i could find a 3sgte and get someone to help me install it i might do that, but i need yalls opinions like he said.
<<edit>> i found a 3sge for 900 jdm, should i get that? This post has been edited by zfjohnson07: Jun 11, 2012 - 7:46 PM |

well, if you have two celicas it basically comes down to which one you want to be your daily driver, and which one will be the project car. I say turn the one with the busted 7a into a project car since it needs a new motor anyway.

So it knocked a little? My current theory is that maybe the PO dropped it into too low a gear and the rods came apart. Or a rod broke and the shrapnel shattered a second rod. It looks like they broke along the length of it. Good $hit though, a missing rod, a second rod in 5000 pieces in the oil pan. 3 holes through the side of the block and one hole through the cast aluminum upper oil pan big enough to fit your hand through |

3VZ sucks, such a boat anchor. 1MZ with VVT-i. Weighs the same as a 5S (maybe a little less), less than a 3S-GTE, and instant 200hp/200lbft on 87 octane. Maybe use a 3MZ with a 1MZ ported intake manifold and a bored throttle body so you can run a 1MZ ecm with a piggy back and throttle cable? Ok, now that's just getting fancy. You don't need a 250hp 6G Celica.

3vz has a little more room to grow
It has a stronger block an better inturnals compared to the 1mz so turbo is a good option on 3vz. Plus its alot cheaper/easier swap -------------------- 95 gt coupe, v6 swap weekend toy

im gonna have to disagree with ya Kurt, a 1MZ is a much better platform. even for boost. just because the 3VZ is an iron block does not make it that much better. the 1MZ has a fairly thick steel sleeve in the cylinder that i have no doubt will support 400 HP. all you need is a good piston.

I vote 7AFE since this is his first experience with a major teardown and rebuild.
A nice used shortblock, gasket set, headbolt set, and of course the head decked and Magnafluxed. Maybe $500-800 total |

Im not saying the 1mz isnt a better motor than a 3vz but from what ive seen/read the 3vz is better for turbo builds an is alittle bit more of a budget friendly option thats all.
I was not aware the 1mz had. Steel sleeves. That would help it hold desent boost numbers but id still feel better with the stronger block. -------------------- 95 gt coupe, v6 swap weekend toy

Sure, if you like 45HP/Liter.... ???? Trying to say v8's suck? I like my 1mz celica but it couldnt outrun run my nova in a quarter mile An if you put both motors on the same budget the 350 in my nova will build more power probably every time. For me theres no real comparison between the 2 but thats just me I started wrenching on old chevys an fords an bought my first import for the mpgs. Not for the power -------------------- 95 gt coupe, v6 swap weekend toy
