hi i have just rebuilt my 205 engine just head gasket valves and cam belt. after running it up for a while i set the timming at 10 degress i was told you have to bridge the 2 wires in the diagnostic port which i done and timming is fine untill i take the wires out, the the timming all gos out can you help please thankyou

Of course once you remove the wire shorting them the ECU will go back into closed loop mode and the timing will go to some seemingly random advance. Thats why you have to jump the terminals or else the ECU would just turn the timing to 10 degrees no matter which way you turn the distributor. Hope this answers your question. yes shorting Te and E1 put the ECU in a test mode. thats when you lock in the distributor. when you take the short out, the timing mark will jump all over the place. thats normal
