Ok, some background: While rebuilding my 7afe, I got a brand new OEM type Exedy clutch kit, and a new flywheel from like Advance or somewhere. I had the shop balance the engine and everything, it runs very smoothly. But I think I got suckered. They balanced it with the new clutch pressure plate and flywheel on the crank, but during the process they called me up and told me that the flywheel needed to be resurfaced. For whatever reason, I let them do it. It was a brand new flywheel but they claimed something about the contact area wasn't right. So, I've been driving the car now for about 2800 miles rebuilt, with the new flywheel and clutch kit on it. From day one of the rebuilt engine, my clutch starts to bite around a third to halfway up the pedal (coming up from the floor) and fully grabs VERY close to the top of the pedal. I've bled the clutch twice, and when I feel out the pedal while driving, it takes a very light touch to break the full grab. It feels like almost as soon as the throwout bearing is pushed against the pressure plate, it starts letting up the clutch disc far enough to break the grab.
Long story short, does anyone have any words of wisdom for me on this? Did the shop take my flywheel down too far? Are the 7afe OEM style clutches just like that? Or maybe Exedy clutches? Would it affect the pressure plate's operation if it were stored for a few weeks with a bit of pressure on the pressure plate fingers (the shop put the pressure plate, bolted to the flywheel, in the box that just the pressure plate came in, it was a tight fit)? Anyone's opinions are most welcome! I seriously feel like I'm just a few bad launches away from a completely slipping clutch! -------------------- 1989 Celica ST Automatic "King Cobra" -- 2005-2006
