So as someof you know that my car was having problems getting the driver side axle to turn,
The tranny shop 1st said that some bearing on the transmision is bad so the cv axle isn't sitting there rite to recieve power

Later he said that my differential needs replacement, he should the differential today and one side is completely smooth while the other is worn out. I asked him if we can just replace that one side like a mini rebuild e said no

I'm just making sure that what he said makes sense .

Is it worth paying 600 for the job?
(Since he started the job I owe him 300 if he doesn't do anything and out the car back, 400 if he replaced really bearing he was talking about. 600 for new differential and all)

Also what bearing is he talking. About anyone know?

I'll bet you can find a nice used S54 manual trans and do the swap. smile.gif $600 goes a long way in a junk yard. You might even be able to pick everything up for an auto to manual swap, or if nothing else you could probay find a good used auto trans.

EDIT: Oh it's an automatic? $600 is way too much then... Like richee3 says, you could probably find a manual conversion for that price or less.

I'm trying to keep the car auto and don't have time with school and job to do the swap myself, that the problem I really did think about that

The shop isn't agreeing in bringing a junk yard tranny saying they won't warranty anything ten,

Well you're gonna have to bite the bullet and pay the 600. They really can't warranty something that they don't know what's been through, whereas rebuilding yours they'll know exactly what they repaired/replaced so they can warranty it. It's understandable.

then you are stuck with the 600 bucks bro...

because if you owe him 300 its only 300 more.

whereas if you take it to another shop, then start over again. sorry.

remember labor is 75 t0 90 bucks an hour... that in my book is average.l

a clutch job was 1200 when i was quoted.

Yea I understand, I guess my wording wasn't clear,

Is 400 $ normal for the bearing
And addition 200 normal? I mean he's not charging me more than others shops would by a lot correct?
For example 450 for a brake job? That's. ridiculous so in comparison

If the grand total is going to be $600 for a rebuilt transmission then go for it.

Kinda confused on what you're saying he's going to charge you.

Not rebuilding the transmission,

Replacing some bearing that holds the axle in place inside tranny And new differential

The carrier bearings are cheap. They are unsealed. It's the work thats expensive.
