Ok, so there are two 97 Lincoln Town Cars in my driveway and I have to admit I've fallen in love with the keyless entry keypad above the door handle. I had to replace one of the keypads and a window regulator, and while I had the door apart I realized how easy it would be to swap this system into another vehicle.
I have an aftermarket immobilizer in my 94 GT and I plan on wiring the keyless entry into it. So far I have a spare module for it that goes into the driver door and a keypad with a bad button(no big deal they are $10). I will need to find a very specific wiring diagram for the keyless entry system(not to mention the Toyota), and the door wiring harness from a Lincoln towncar.

Spare Keypad, 1-2 button doesnt work but I can get them at the salvage yard for $10

Driver door Keyless Entry Module, stores 5 codes. cost $35 at the junkyard.

So so far my total starting out for this project is $35, Ill make sure to keep you posted.
Lemme know what you think!!!

I did enjoy having that system on our old Exploder, but there's no way I could justify ruining the Celica's lines or cutting a hole in the door for that. Find a good place to hide it yet still have it accessible and I'm all for it thumbsup.gif Bottom of the mirror, perhaps? Have to go by feel but keeps it out of sight.

Naw I dont think it will detract from the exterior unless I was going with a shaved look. I will try to find a less obtrusive keypad though, the chrome is a bit much. Or maybe I could paint the chrome to match the car...

Take the chrome off, shave a little off the top of the door handle, and it should fit well....

Not measuring...just assuming.

You could try the Exploder pad with the flat black plastic:

Yeah I think I want it right above the door handle, its fairly small, at least it looks small on the side of an 18 1/2 foot lincoln.
Im kinda thinking about what richee said and it would be awesome to put it on the underside of the mirror, so you couldnt even see it but I could walk up and touch the mirror discretly for 2 seconds and the doors unlock. Id feel like the Fonz.

And it will be awesome having it hooked up to the viper immobilizer. I could leave the keys in the ignition and the only way on earth to get it started would be to disarm the system using the keyless entry code. Im thinking a push button starter would be an awesome addition with that in mind.

Im definately gonna keep my progress updated here and make a good record for anyone else that wants to do this. After this I think my next project will be a heads up display using a lincoln dash biggrin.gif. Depending on how succesful this turns out maybe I could make a few prefabbed wire harnesses so this could be a plug and play project for any other 6GC owners(except for cutting the door D: )

Ok, so I've had a breakthrough in my brainstorming, rather than install an ugly keypad on the door, I will paint the circuit into the driver window with conductive paint. I got the idea looking at this- http://www.bareconductive.com/555-touch-circuit

I would have 5 buttons on the window sprayed with some kind of conductive paint, nearly invisible. I could backlight the glass or add UV/Flourescent paint to the conductive traces so LEDs could light them up from inside the door. I'd use 555 or 556 chips in monostable mode similar to the website's circuit to make all 5 conductive traces act like the Ford keypad's buttons did.
My only real hurdle is to find a conductive paint that is durable enough to survive the elements and having the window rolled up or down. Im considering the idea of putting it on the back window because it wont roll down and rub the traces off. Also will water cause false positives? I need to build a test circuit and start experimenting!

Things I have-
Keyless entry control module
Keypad with broken button
Spare celica door harness.

Things I need-
Conductive paint, waterproof
Build control board for window keypad
Lincoln door harness

Let me know what you think!

Sweet!
I think the rear quarter window would best since it doesn't move. Also you have ample space inside the rear quarter body panel for the harness and boards, then you'd only need to run the signal wires through the loom at the door hinge?
Also how would it react with the stock security system?

I love that you are coming up with modern twists for our soon to be 2 decade old cars!

There should be ample room in either the door or rear quarter, I'm going to mount the keyless entry module into the driver's door. The lincoln harness should intergrate easily, it only has to splice in and trigger the lock, unlock(both doors seperate) the courtesy lights, headlights. It also has adjustable seat and mirror memory that I wont be using.
Ive got to find a waterproof conductive paint though, being on the outside of a car in the Texas elements is pretty harsh, even if rain is a rare occasion here.

And really this is just the tip of the iceberg for my crazy ideas of technology to add, I just havent acquired the skills or technology to even begin my other ideas.

You can run a micro chip for a quarter of the price and have less headaches. Just program the numbers you want and have it relay to your door lock and unlock signals.
