Wow, never even heard of them. You can get the new Kumho MX in an 18 for about 430 shipped. I'd go with something that you've heard of.

I'm rollin a set right now... 215/40/17

They're excellent tires... I personally like them much better than Kumhos supras, potenza's, and even Yokohama Paradas... I've been rollin them for near 10,000 miles... and they're still very quiet... and still have very good thread...

Some say that tread wear is 200 and the other says 280. Which is it? How well do they perform in water?

wanli, honestly is a generic brand. there usually the one's you get when you order tire/wheel combo's. unless you specify diff. they'll be alright, but i think it'll be kind of difficult to find a replacement should something happent to one. or to have one warrantied. yeah they're cheap in price, but i wouldn't buy them. of all the tires we sell (truck, trailer, & car) wanli's are the cheapest. like i said, they'll work, but stick to a reputable brand. toyo, yokohama, bridgestone, pirelli, goodyear, michelin, cooper & kumho are all awesome, but according to a tire industry mag called Tire Review, TOYO has been rated #1 in product quality for the past 7 years... i can have any tire out there, and i only run toyo.

That's a matter of opinion. As far as tires go... it's how they perform in real life as to whether or not they're any good. You can pay nearly 200 a tire for some Parada's or Proxes... yet they don't neccesarily perform *that* much better than any other generic brand. You're paying for a brand name, that's all. If that's enough to buy you, then so be it... In this specific case... I've run an entire slew of tire brands on numerous cars... from Toyo Proxes, to Falken Ziex/Azenis, to Yokohama Paradas, to Kumho Supras, to my most current Wanli's. Even if generic, they perform far superior to all of my last sets of tires, short of the Falkens. The Paradas went bald within around 25,000 miles, while the Proxes lasted only a bit longer. The Wanli's I'm currently running are at a bit over 11,000 miles and are still running very strong, still grippy, still quiet. I personally dislike Kumhos... they just get really loud, really fast. The Falken Zeixs I ran prior to running the Paradas were the best. They only went because I switched rims, and the only size of Ziexs Les Schwab had were 205/40's at the time... and I didn't want that. Anyways, if you're buying for a brand name... fine. That however, doesn't mean other generic tires are bad. All in all, I liked all of the tires I've run so far, except for the kumhos. My personal favorites, Wanlis and Falkens.

LatinKraze: The tread rating is 280 and they run very well in wet weather. IMO, better than Kumhos, Paradas, and Azenis, but not quite as good as Proxes, or Ziexs...

my proxes T1-S have a treadwear rating of 280, traction AA, and temp. A. any tire with a similar rating, will perform the same. the only diff is in the compound the maker uses. so that is what makes the tire quiet . for the price, the wanli can't be beat. they seem to be getting good reviews from kwanza26, he has run many brands, so he's speaking from experience. i prefer toyo. the decision is yours.

Well, i like the Kumho Supras. I have had about 3 sets on different cars and loved them.

Right now money is tight and since they r going on the Celica, i don't care about how they run in the rain cause im not driving it in the rain, or even wet roads.
Im just looking for a set of cheap tires that won't wear out after a couple thousand miles.

Compound used, tread pattern, side wall strength, and inner belts are all some characteristics of tires. No they arent all the same. Some tires are noisey not only because of the compound but because of tread design. Typically aggressive tread tires are noisey. Never had any wanli tires though smile.gif My cheap falkens sure suck and are noisey as heck.

I was looking at a SuperStreet magazine today at target biggrin.gif

There is a new Toyo Proxes 4 tire that they say is sweet, they even tested the tires at willow springs raceway using race-prepped 6G GT's biggrin.gif

they look awsome and perform better according to them, traction is AA and temp. is A, other than that, the T1-s is sweet...eventhough iv'e never had them...YET biggrin.gif

Totally not true. First off, treadwear doesn't mean much of anything at all. Its a number assigned by the manufacturer and there are abdolutely no standards or guidelines that it is governed by. The traction and temperature ratings are a little better but not really a good gage of a performance tire. They are more geared to all-season performance on heavy vehicles (trucks).

Tires, like anything else will always be a compromise. They are a balance of dry grip, wet grip, snow/ice grip, noise, treadwear, price, and a few other less important things like speed rating, load rating and the like. I personally lean very heavily toward the dry grip with a little concern for price and wet grip and virtually no concern for anything else. Treadwear matters, but with the way I drive, nothing lasts for long. The best tire I've found for my criteria is the Falken Azenis. The Yoko ES-100s that I have on the celica now are second and the Kumho 712s third. I haven't had the yokos on the track yet, so I'm not going to make a final judgement on them.
