Your gaskets might be going, and you could be burning it off, check ur tail pipe make sure no bluish/black smoke is coming outta it. You might wanna get under he car and take a real good look, sometimes the oil will puddle on the frame and when ur driving just get blown back so drips are tough to see.

I had a friend who had that problem w/ his hyundai and it started running terrible. When he took it to the shop he spent $500 replacing the valve seals or something like that.

I have oil burning, about 2 quarts an oil change, and I put in some risolone ring seal and it has help drasticly. I also used motor flush and it worked great.

just keep in mind that its normal for an engine to burn a some oil. excessive burng is something you should watch out for.

wow thats a lot of miles, yay toyota!

i think it would be a waste of money to rebuild the engine at this point. you would probably get a lot more life out of your car if you just used that money to but a low milage 5sfe (or a 3sgte). smile.gif

I'm at 197k and still open up the throttle daily.

Right now I don't burn much oil. It stays on full for 3000 miles, but if I go 3500(I run full synthetic, and Toyotas interval is 3500) it burns a quart.
I figure with my mileage it's probably the piston rings and a few other internal seals. Haven't had the compression tested lately.

just a thought well queston, when did you switch to synthetic, i know it runns cleaner and smother, but if you do it with over 75k it norm breaks up all the gunk holding your seals togeather, well oil sludge in your seals, i wanted to switch but thought i am getting to high in milage... i have 133k

I switched at ~100k.
I'm also running a thinner 5w30 Castrol Syntec(regular for the Celica is 10w30). It shouldn't hurt anything to switch(other than your wallet, it costs $10 for regular w/filter and about $30 for synthetic).
