Im planning on swapping out my 5sfe from my celica asap . The engine has more than 200k miles and is still running but not so strong. Transmission is getting there too. It's time to rebuild her but, I've never owned a Toyota only previous cars were a evo 8 ( rip ) car accident.. And a em1 which I sold to travel across Europe. Now those cars I had already ideas on what I wanted to do since the options on what I wanted to do to those cars were set. But, with the celica all everyone wants to do is a 3sgte swap which is very easy and cost efficient but pricing to me idc about. I just want to build a celica worth being dreamt about. I had several swaps in mind, nothing fwd. Can't have fun with those but, I have seen a 2jz in a gt4 but, thats not me. I was thinking of cross breeding the car . Now I thought of throwing a 13b rx7 engine in the car ... 4g63t 7 bolt ... Of course the 3s gte ... Rb20det & 25det ... Sr20 from a s13 ... Ka24 from a 240sx ... A 1jz turbo or non turbo nd that's about all. Hell I've been wondering what other engines can work with my car . I don't think the Mazda would as much not the rb engines. Just need ideas because this swap is going to happen very very soon nd as soon as it starts that's a done deal no going back. Im mainly after drifting or awd exploitation ! Something I can bring to meets maybe sema one day and wow those celica owners who want or have the same ideals. Im not up for negative Critisim or telling me to rid of my car. I want my car I actually like the 6g celica. So helpful ideas any builds done already.. Anything useful ! Thanks

Go through the projects section, someone ended up doing a RWD conversion with the 5S(turbocharged) and the transmission from a Tacoma or the like along with the steering components from a Mustang or something. Really that's the only RWD conversion I can think of off the top of my head. Of course there's always the option of doing an AWD conversion which has been done a few times. Really if it were me I'd do the AWD conversion, as then it's pretty decently documented and mostly sourcing factory GT-Four parts. If your heart isn't set on the 6th gen there's always the 5th and 4th gen All-Trac you can get over here, and also the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation that are RWD. Still unique cars and different, but takes out a lot of the frustration, work, and cost. Just something to think about anyway, but I'd go through and find some of those project threads and read through them to see if that's something you'd want to do.

Doing something like that you're making a massive headache just for the sake of being different. The 3S-GTE and everything from a GT-Four would be more or less bolt-in. If you want the Mitsubishi drivetrain so badly in a coupe just get an Eclipse GSX.

This is the problem with car guys today... So quick to give up a project due to your lack on funds or patience.... Thanks I appreciated ya ... But I clearly stated i wasn't getting rid of this car and that I wanted to have some helpful info on making such a build. Everything will come with headaches but I know what my end goal is and im driven to complete that. Does anyone else have any incite that can help me with my build ? Im starting it very soon and need ideas on what yall would think is better to work with on power - durability - and fun

A 4g63 swap may be a good idea, the issue is we are not mitsu inclined here. you would be pioneering this swap as we just watched. some of us may be able to help mechanically or here and there but as far as us letting you know whats good or bad would be a long shot. hopefully one of us can help you, anyways that's what here here for isn't it?

My issue with the 4G63 swap is this: You want a 2 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder with AWD.... Why go with a 4G63 and AWD Mitsubishi engine when Toyota already built these cats with a 3S-GTE and AWD? The 4G63 has had more support and research put into it, no doubt, so if you want 500+ hp at the wheels, a 4G63 may be a reasonable engine to choose, but why not stick to what was built for the 6th gen Celica?

I'm not trying to discourage you by any means. I'm just letting you know your options.

The major issue here isn't what can be done, you can make your 6th Gen mid-engine RWD with a Ferrari V12 if funds permit it. The problem is what is feasible. I can guarantee it will cost more than a V12 Ferrari once you're done. Everyone has their idea of a dream car, and this is a very personal endeavor. You can build your 6th Gen. to be whatever your wallet and imagination can support. Start a build thread and document every step in the process. You may inspire someone else with similar ideas to take on an identical build. As far as ideas the sky is the limit go for it. Make a budget then triple it and you may almost be in the ballpark of what it will actually cost. Good luck on your build and I look forward to your progress.

It's called being feasible and not doing something just for the sake of doing it. Keeping the Celica is fine, I never said to outright get rid of it. My thing being does it really matter so much to be that different when at the end of the day the result is the same, but one will take less than half the work and money? Could I take my '79 Firebird and convert it to mid-engined AWD layout? Sure, anything is possible with enough time and money but it's not feasible. If you're the kind to throw caution to the wind then by all means do what you please. The end result will be awesome and unique, but you need to weigh the pros and cons before embarking on whichever path you choose.

Here's my thing, you could very well get a 3S-GTE AWD conversion done within the year. Not so much with the Mitsubishi conversion, EVERYTHING will have to be custom fabricated and there'll be lots of trial and error. Plus the wiring conversion that's there's probably no information on and you'll have to figure that all out as well. It could easily take many years to get it complete, only for it to still not be quite right. I/we just don't want to see you end up halfway in out a lot of money and time hating the car. We're not saying you can't do it, and we're not trying to crush your dreams, just that maybe you should go with what's known. A true GT-Four clone is plenty unique, I can probably count on one hand how many are over here. Just some things to think about.
