Hey, im new to the forums, got my ride a few days ago, and i love it.. definatly a step up from what i had before.
Anyways, when i have the heater on, and the air coming in from the outside, there is a funny smell coming through the vents. Its almost like the smell you get from being behind someone whos burning oil. Also, you can only smell it inside the car when the heats on. BTW, i searched, but nothing relavent came up.
Thanks!
-mike

Well the most simple solution is to get some vent spray, not totally sure what its called but it kills the mold and what not that festures inside the vents, if that doesnt work maybe its just your engine?

Its not a moldy smell, and i found out its not coming from just the vents. When i opened my door and got out of my car today, i could smell it briefly. Almost like the smell of a burnt clutch, but not as strong. And i dont think it is the clutch because i can smell it when i start the car up and havent even gone anywhere.

Its probably the heater coil.

You might have a small leak or something like that.

It could be the smell of leaking anti-freeze.

I am pretty sure thats what it is.

You are safe for now, but you probably want to get it fixed evantually.

Is that the same thing as the heater core? I'm assuming it is. I know id have to take the dash out to replace it, but how much would getting a new one run?
Any other ideas?
thanks for the replies

How much do they run? What are some other signs of a leaky heater core?
