(see end of Page 1 for update)

ok I'm tired of looking for info about it. But, I did find one person confirming toyota did install it on the left air vent area of the driver side. Just to ask again, Is the OEM fog light switch/button location on the left air vent area of the driver side left air vent? My car alarm light is located in that indented circle where I think the button/switch is at... I think.... if exists. Is it a button? Was it offered on US celicas? Man I dont think I am making sense... sleepy time.

ohhh dang it, if someone has I a pic that will just shut me up.

it is a rear fog button. USDM cars do not have them, only the overseas cars do.

yupp, the usdm cars do have the shape for you to cut it out and put a switch there. What I did was just get an OEM fog switch for toyota and popped out the vertical rectangular panel on the left side of the steering wheel.

yeah thats what I did as well. But when I heard that this OEM button existed (at least for over sea celicas) I got exicted and thought toyota SHOULD have made one for the USDM. However, I was unaware that it operated the rear fogs for UK celicas. Which makes sense because my friend from the UK was telling me when he exports his 05 Mustang to the UK, he will have to install rear fogs. THey have real dense fog and often, so they have more need for that. I thought it operated the front fogs.

part #

94-96 --> 84165-20040
96-99 --> 84165-20060

these are for LHD, the RHD switch is a different (fits in the RHD vent the opposite from LHD)

I do not know why they were different for the early years, I would assume they are basicly the same and will do the same job.

Snap, if you really want one, just get it from a Toyota dealership or try looking on ebay.uk

also, the 96+ Celicas have the fog light switch on the directional (blinker) stalk along with the parking & headlight switch. You could just get one of those (part # 84140-20560)

Hi everyone. Yes, I finally got around to installing my OEM fog light switch (or button should
I say) that I bought from the UK. As everyone knows they usually use this particular button for
their rear fog light. Yes, over ther they require cars to have rear fog light just because it
foggy 90% of the time over there.

Anywho, It was A LOT easier install than I thought it would be. The wiring was a bit tricky, just because
the wire colors did not follow any U.S. coloring logic... so I just connected different wires until
the button worked. I had the drilling hole part planned/down but I was worried on how I was going
to mount it behind the vent section. The RHS drive setion that it came with had the built-in platic
tab/brackets... I thiught surely Toyota would not have those plastc brackets on my LHS drive vent...
WELL IT DID!!!!!!!!! I was sooooo happy/relieved/exicted when I saw that. Like I always have said,
Toyota thinks of everything. Pretty much "plug and play" after the hole was cut.

I was very pleased with the results. It gives the interior something extra and a cleaner stock look that
I always strive for. One thing I did not like was that the white vent "flow on/off" symbols are alittle worn
I will repaint those next. I may go all out and reproduce a stensel to repaint...

See before and after pics below... Enjoy.

PS: I also included pics of my long-since installed 1999 OEM leather seats. PEACE.

Well this is how I have it so far. And nothin has caught on fire... and my lights dont flicker with this combo biggrin.gif
I had three wires on my aftermarket harness: Black, Red, White.

This is the combo.
Black - green
Red - red/orange
White - red/green
illumination(splise in to any existing illumination wire you choose: raio, parking lights, etc) - white/green

No, I think the 94 did not have the option for foglights... hence ther was no switch/anywhere (correct me if I'm wrong anyone). So before I had to install/cut a hole for a after market switch once I got a hold of some fogs. THis hole was located below the steering wheel LHS, near the fuse panel... in the "neighborhood" of the hood latch. You will see like a little rectangular panel, where something should go.

So, no, I do/did not have two switches.

I think 96 on that turn signal arm switch feature was added. (Again, correct me if I'm wrong anyone).

Yes those differences between USDM and EDM (European Domestic Market biggrin.gif) versions are confusing... I can remember how I was shocked USDM celicas don't have rear fog light (normal for me) biggrin.gif.

IPB Image

Picture from my topic here wink.gif.

However: there is one more thing to think about wink.gif. EDM celicas has "rear-foglight-indicator" on dashboard (when button is activated, indicator light on) located here:

IPB Image
IPB Image

it's this bulb:

IPB Image

Do you have that in USDM celicas also? Will that indicator be operating also for you?

This is sweet - I was going to get another hazard light switch and use it to wire push button start. Now all I have to do is figure out some way to get one of these, remove the paint showing the light and then the fun part begins - wiring that up. UTSlickVic - where did you get your switch and how much $?

WOW! great post malpaso! I was wondering where those rear fogs would be located. I'm not sure if USDM has the rear fog indicator. I have never taken apart my guage cluster. I'm sure someone will post a response to your inquiry. I would sure like to know biggrin.gif This keeps getting better and better. I could look in my chilton's manuel to see if it has anything.

If it does, I will diffinatly attempt to get it to work...

Again, great pics/post.

ebay. I just ran into it out of the blue. I was lucky. I think I ended up paying $80 shipped form UK. It was kinda pricey but worth it in the end IMO. I thought it was a rare part so I went for it.

Ok,

I tried really hard to see if I could get a glimps of that fog light "on" indicator on the front gauge cluster... I used a flash light and used sun light and from what I can see, I can not make out of there is actual indicator on the cluster. In the sun you can see the oil indicator, e-brake, etc. I guess what Im doing is tip-toeing around the real answer. I need to look behind it to know for sure.

Does anyone know our have pics of the back of their guage cluster, much like malpaso's pic on page 2? a USDM gauge cluster smile.gif. We just need confirmation weather or not the USDM cluster has a fog light indicator. My gut says it should.

Thanks.

Thanks for all the advice, I will be trying to install mine in the next little while. Let me know how it goes with getting a light in the cluster. Will it simply take putting a bulb in there and the wiring circuit should exist? What size bulb is that in the cluster?

By the way I found my switch by signing up at Celica Club UK and then simply placing a WTB thread on their forum. I ended up getting a reply right away and got it for $25CAD shipped to me.

Do we have a part number for those sockets from Toyota? I would like to buy a few of them.

As for the price, I think I did luck out. It doesn't seem that anybody else can get it for that cheap, even from the same seller on that UK Celica Club.

USDM celica question....

Do our celica's already come with a plug back there for the button? So, basicaly, once i have a button (the back has a male plug with metal clips coming out of it. No wires though.) -- we plug it into an already wired in connector, or do you need to solder, and do all the wiring?

No unfortunately we have no harness or plug. All I have now is the switch and the back looks like this.

IPB Image

So basically I am now in search of a harness plug that will go into it. Maybe we can hunt down a part number for this harness and get it from Toyota, if not I guess back over to the fun on the UK Website (inside joke between snapshotgt and me!).

I sent malpaso a PM and hopefully he can come up with a part number for us.

guys the plug for the back of that is part of the main interior wire harness, which runs throughout the inside of your dashboard. The plug cannot be purchased on it's own from toyota, you would have to get the entire harness which is huge $$.

but I could be wrong. I think Martin (malpaso) is looking into this as we speak. I know I have tried before for another harness and I was given a big no by the toyota dealership. Let's see what he comes up with, good luck Martin smile.gif

yes and no... Dustin is right about "big no". For common customer is impossible get any connector harness... but technicly it is possible. Every "genuine" Toyota car service must have special catalog of any plug or harness in Toyota (of course with part numbers). I have seen once this catalog and tried look for some JDM connectors for projectors... there are no model cars, just drawings with connectors and numbers with short specification. If you find anything what looks usefull, you have no chance for checking you have exactly what you want... result is just some part number. Then you must find out in which car is that part used and check if it's right thing...If it is, time for ordering smile.gif, if its not...new searching in that catalog...so nothing easy and of course someone must let you search in that catalog biggrin.gif. I belive much easier is improvise or find it from junk yard...

p.s.: just for your info. One connector bought that way costs about $30-40... just stupid wire harness... kindasad.gif

Sorry guyz I was in South Padre on vacation. I am now up to speed. Thanks guys for the PMs and sorry for the delay.

I would have to agree with batman/malpaso on the "harness" section we want added. Pointless to go to Toyota for this, as they said, since its a part of the entire harness they would only sell the entire harness (if they have it mind you). And we all know how freaking expensive harnesses are.

Snap, I will eventually answer ur PMs smile.gif

WALKER:
The harness I have in the back of my UKDM plug came with my purchase (see below). So I guess, one of the 4 wires can be wired to the newly found fog light indicator plug (BTW great job in finding that!). Much like how I "rigged" my accent lights on the Projector headlights. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyways for yall who dont have this illusive button harness: If you look at the hazard light button/harness, it should be VERY similiar to the UKDM fog light button/harness. I'm thinking the hazard light harnesses may plug into the back of the fog light button. This would be everyones best bet. Does this make sense? I'm I off base? I know that the UKDM fog light button and the hazard light button are really similiar... so .... shouldnt the harness sections be also?

IPB Image

EDIT: I'm in Austin right now and I dont have my car so... I cant see if what I just recommended is true.

Just to update you guys on this. One of the harnesses from the climate control panel fits perfectly into the UK fog light switch. The only problem I see is that the points are not the same, for the UK fog light swtich you need 1,3,4,6 I believe (says above in the diagram), however the harness from the climate control has wires coming out of other spots, not sure exactly which ones.

I believe that the wires can easily be moved to the 1,3,4,6 spots since it is just a harness and then it will work perfectly. I will keep you guys informed on how this works out for me.

the indicator is for the rears. To have a rear fog it's nessessary to make it legal. If you put a bulb in yours nothing would happen.

another pic of the switch

OH! Ok, i see now. This whole time i thought you were talking about the front fog lights. Here i was thinking what the big deal was about the switch since mine is located on the same lever as the headlight controls.

Rear fog lights. Hmm. I'll have to think about it if i need it.

This thread inspired me to hook up my jdm fogs, so I bought a rear fog button to use for the front fogs. This is what I got..

The guys on the celica club uk forums (nix in particular) said it looks like a button for 96+ rear fogs. A bit different from the 4 pin buttons you guys have. You can see in the last pic I separated the colors that look similar to what someone posted earlier in this thread. I tried hooking them up and got nothing. Any ideas? Can you diagram gurus find one with an 8 pin button instead of a 4 pin? Thanks.

Wow

I've been thinking about this for a while and did a search to find it. I haven't been able to track down a source for the part numbers that have been listed: 84165-20040 and 84165-20060. There also isn't much of an explaination as to why there are two different part numbers. Maybe the first number was for the 6 pin that only controls the rear fogs and the later was for the 8 pin that added another feature? the wiring diagram earlier in this post was for the 6 pin.

I'm not coming up with much when searching UK part numbers.

Go HERE and you will find the answers you seek, grasshopper. I had the same question like 5 days ago. smile.gif

Wait, never mind. I see what you're saying now. Ugh. This puts me in the same boat.

How did you connect them? My thinking would be that
1= don't worry about it
2= Illumination (+)
3= Relay
4= Ignition (although common sense tells me the red only wire would be ignition, or battery)
5= Ground
6= Illumination (-) ?

I'm guessing the pins that we don't need to use were intended to somehow operate the fog light illumination on the instrument panel.

All you need to do is sit down with a multimeter and figure out which circuits get connected when the switch is closed. Besides that figure out which pins are for illumination.

From the diagrams it looks like you had to have the headlights and the rear fog lights on in order to turn on the front fog lights. There may be a circuit in the rear fog light switch that the front fog lights run through. You could also pull it open and see whats inside.

Hi guys, Im trying to install UKDM fog switch into my JDM GT4. It already has the rear lights converted in have fogs in them as in the UK you must have them by law.

The previous owner must of done this as there is a switch to turn them on and off in the air vent, but its only a aftermarket rocker switch, I would like to replace the switch with my new toyota Celica OEM fog switch.

How do I wire it in as the wire harness behind the vent has 3 wires with connectors and my new OEM switch has 8 wires.

What wires do I need to use in my new switch to make the fogs turn on.

Cheers

Same as the top picture. Has 8 pins with a white connector with 8 different coloured wires.

I have 3 wires already fitted to a fog light relay from the previous owner, I just want to replace the aftermarket 3 pin rocker switch with the OEM 8 pin switch, but I have no idea what wires from the 8, to connect to the 3 that are already behind the air vent.

Ok I have found out a bit more info on the UK 8 pin fog light switch.

Each pin connected to the PCB has the following printed next to the solder where the pins join the circuit board.

1 - L
2 - Illumination (+)
3 - B
4 - HR
5 - LH
6 - FS
7 - E
8 - Illumination (-)

I have no idea what 1,3,4,5,6,7 mean tho.

Good Idea, I never thought about taking mine apart. I'll have to take out the multimeter when I get home and do some more testing. Ill post up any results.

Well, the illumination is right (2+ and 8-). I hooked them up to a 9V battery and the led lit right up. When I find my multimeter Ill do some more testing. Can someone with the 6 pin do what Wintersun did and take theirs apart and post what letters are for what pins? Maybe if we find some common letters we can get a little closer to figuring this out.

i'm also trying to install the 8 pin switch into my GT-4 right now and also figured out the names of the pins, like listed above.

i also have a wiring diagram which tells us what these do...

i'll try to upload it in a few days,

basically with the 8pin switch it is possible to run in when 2 conditions are fullfilled:
- headlights on
- front fogs on

the 8 pin switch gets an input form the front fog relay and all the rest comes from the headlight sw and illumination.

.... i think lolz

That is not exactly correct... I have not had fogs from stock on my old ST but this button was functioning. So just headlights on is enough IMO.

1 - L = to rear fog indicator light on dash, color = R
2 - ill + = tap into any ill source on dash
3 - B = from fuse ECU-B (so +), color = G-R
4 - HR = from HEAD relay (A2 side of the relay/coil) so that fog only operates when lights are ON, color = R-Y
5 - LH = to light control switch/ daytime running light relay pin "H" (sits on top of integration relay), color = R-B
6 - FS = from front fog light relay (A2 side of the relay/coil) , so if you don't have front fogs or relay -> earth to chassis ground, color = G-B
7 - E = other side of the dash indicator light, goes to junction block Nr 3, pin 3A, color = W-B
8 - ill - = earth to chassis ground or ill - anywhere in dash

Nice find ST-Autosport. Say I want to use this button on my front fog lights and I wire it up like this....

Would it be possible to simply connect one of the wires to a +12V source and another wire to the 85 pin on the relay?

in that case i think you need to do this:

1 - L = leave open
2 - ill + = switched 12V +
3 - B = switched 12 +
4 - HR = ground
5 - LH = leave open
6 - FS = ground
7 - E = leave open
8 - ill - = ground

thats 2 wires, + and -

+ to pins ill + and B
- to pins HR, FS and ill-

Unfortunately that didn't work. What I need is a +12V wire that comes from the button to the 85 pin on the relay. I have tried a ton of combinations but cant seem to find a +12V out. mad.gif

I just get a button form the UK GT Celica and has different diagram...like
1- ill - ground
2- ill - 12v .....but when you open the button you will see it ...so maybe your button is not like this diagram show before...

cheers

well i have been trying to connect my 8pin button too....

UK type 8pin switch to a JDM car....

8 - ill - = earth to chassis ground or ill - anywhere in dash

i have ALL wiring diagrams....

i tested all with a multimeter to be sure i had the correct wires....

connected it all, being sure i had everything correct....

but it did NOT work

it ended up buzzing continiusly the buzzer that my headlights were on, with ignition off...

then i connected HR pin i think to switched 12V because from schematics it came from direct 12V trough the headlight relay (hense the constant buzzer), but DO NOT DO THAT!, my swich began t smell and smoke, i quickly cut the wire...

sooo to make this short, i installed a simple button on the lower kickpanel, and used the ill pins on the fog switch as fog indicator....

expensive fog light switch lolz
