Tuesday, July 25th, 4pm to 12am

Engine resealed with new timing belt, ready to go. In the background, the victim waits...

IPB Image

AHHHH! It's the black Celica of DEATH!!!

IPB Image

Remember kids, when swapping to a 4AGZE engine, you'll need the backing plate off the 7AFE engine. A new rear main seal is a must too!

IPB Image

New SPEC clutch installed and the tranny swapped over from the Celica. Yes, I know it's ugly, but around here we make things that go fast, not things that are pretty tongue.gif

It will be nice to see this swap completed. I have a feeling that, where others have failed, the doctor will prevail. Best of luck.

it's already been completed. both using the better, higher-rated GZE out of the AE101, and using the proper transmission, instead of the 7AFE tranny.

i'm still pissed about mike and his slapdash wiring, but oh well. smile.gif.

If they used the newer GZE. those are rated at what? 165?

I should just do that instead of a V6.. All I want is 200-220whp

4AGZE + crank pulley + fuel and air intake mods + exhaust + effecient FMIC + some A/F/etc controller = your goal. and, if all else fails, there is a larger supercharger out there that you can always upgrade to. smile.gif. or, remove the SC, and turbo it. that motor has many directions to go. twin-charging was an option, and still is, but the HKS kit that used to be made is probably nowhere out there anymore (even used). and fabbing your own, you'll have to do insane amounts of research.

It's just not as beefy and able to handle the extra power. plus the axles are about half the diameter. and some of the transmissions out of the AE101 are LSD. only downside is that the driver's side (of mine at least) axle had to be lengthened by about 2 inches.

sure are some haters floating around 6gc lately..

btw you wont be able to see most of that with the engine in the bay.. also a painted exhaust heat shield and valve cover would do wonders for that engine.

hmm.. I was thinking more of a rebuild, some head job, 20 over, SC14 s/c (Previa SC) and everythign that you said.. lol

I like the SC more.. better for auto.. unless the turbo spools very quick

well, it wasn't meant to be hateful or w/e. just saying, it's been done, and more "in full". people talk like it's impossible, and tweak is the only one capable. i don't mean any disrespect to anyone, so don't think that. it's all good though. it'll be nice to see another. i think there may be a 2nd somewhere, but i don't know if it ever got finished...

Is that a MR2 GZE? I didn't know the MR2 came with DLI. I think that is an AE92 GZE.

I'm just going to stop posting my stuff up. Pretty much every thread I've started recently has been hated on.

Answers to questions: My understanding has been that the only car the MAP/DLI version of the 4AGZE came in was the AE101, and this is the MAP/DLI version. I'm pretty sure that the AE92 had only the AFM version.

As for the transmission, the C52 tranny has been used in almost every Corolla swap that I can think of, and it's a very rugged transmission. I've never once heard of a 4AGZE breaking one. Considering the simplicity of swapping it over instead of making the E58 work, it's a very logical choice.

Also I've cleaned the engine up quite a bit and it looks a lot better now.

Yeah, Ryan(FAQ) is the one I was speaking of in a previous post. Again, didn't mean disrespect, just repping to everyone else it's been done. I still don't know if his is 100%, but I think that's bc of the body work he's doing.

July 28th, 9am to whenever I quit tonight

Today I spent most of the day running around getting a custom power steering hose made, custom a/c lines set up, and getting any parts I needed.

With the lift, installing the engine through the bottom is a cinch.

Two more Celicas are in line. The 6th gen is getting a 3SGTE and the 5th gen is getting a 3SGE BEAMS.

Dang Tweak, nice work. The black Celicas are all lining up to get the go-go treatment. Every time I see one of those wiring harnesses, I think "Better him than me; that looks like a PITA."

Nice.

It's getting a front-mount intercooler.

I'd charge $400 for that conversion, it's a bit more of a pain in butt than most harnesses.

No you're pretty much right, I actually loose sight of that from too much stress, which is a mistake. I DID get into this because I love doing swaps and tuning engines, and sometimes I forget that! smile.gif

In fact, that's probably 1/2 the reason I post this stuff up, because showing my work and getting feedback on it often inspires me to keep it up.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I have some more pics that I haven't uploaded yet, I'll add them tomorrow. I've road tested the car and it runs great! I just needs to go to the exhaust shop and get a couple of custom a/c lines installed.

Actually you should just ship it over here, it's not all that expensive.

-Doc

It must be really nice to have such passion about what you do... or am I assuming too much? It looks like you really enjoy your work.

-Doc

Can i get 1/2 off the price of the finishing work on mine if i ship it to ya and just keep on giving you wonderful feedback? hehehe laugh.gif

well i thought i'd give it a try.But you have inspired me once again to get under the hood of my car and get my engine going. i just got to get hold of a few friends and a few tools and you should be expecting alot of messages from me when i get everything set.

Heheh alright.

Well the car went home today after a few road tests and a dyno run. It feels very strong and smooth, definetely a worthy swap. When the owner gets home I'm sure he'll post up his impressions.

I'm not going to release the dyno numbers on THIS swap, for two reasons. One, it's up to the owner to do that, and two, there was a hole in the intercooler that he gave me which was causing a boost (and vacuum) leak, and so he wasn't running nearly the amount of boost that he should have been, so the numbers were a little low.

However, I will tell you that another swap I did, same engine, but into a Corolla, was dynoed the same day. Stock besides an SS Autocrap header and a front-mount intercooler, it made 150whp at 9 psi.

The s/c has no problem filling the intercooler system with boost, however ALL forced induction setups benefit from shorter intercooler piping. One warning I will issue about the 4AGZE though, the throttle plate is the first thing in the intake system, so the WHOLE intercooler system is under vacuum. This presents more than the usual number of chances for vacuum leaks and whatnot.

For driving impressions, it's a much different feeling than the 3SGTE. The the 3S feels okay at first, with a WHOOSH of power coming on around 2500-3000 rpm, and holding fairly well up to redline. The GZE on the other hand has no suddeness to it, it has extremely smooth and linear power from idle on up with a slight drop towards redline (like the 3S). The power is instant and if you don't have good tires, will burn rubber at pretty much any point in the RPM band in first or second gear. It feels a lot like you're driving a car with a pretty big V6 in it.

WH96TE, yeah my partner George does the website and he's not too savvy with his spelling skills. biggrin.gif I pointed that one out to him a while ago but he hasn't gotten to it.

The 4AGZE is marginally heavier than the 7AFE, but it would be interesting to weigh each of them and see what the numbers are. I'll look into it.

To get to 200whp I'd probably be looking at a larger supercharger, like the SC14, injectors, piggyback, and some tuning.

Just thought I'd chime in, I'm the other guy w/ a running JDM 4agze into a 6th gen. I dont post a lot anymore these days, at least not here, i spend more of my time on club4ag or just researchin on my own. Congrats on joining the gze community to the owner of the black 6th gen smile.gif

One of these days I'll take some more pictures / video of the car running. I currently have it all apart again to fix some body issues and a few other things. When its back together I'll have upgraded sc'er boost, larger injectors, fmic, and full standalone. I'll keep you guys posted when all that finally goes down smile.gif

Hi my name is Richard, and this was my car and my swap. First I would like to say Dr. Tweak did a very good job. Every thing works from my P/S to my A/C. Very professional work. He gave me a set price for labor and stuck to it even though it took many more hours then what i was charged.

Now to the car. I was very disapointed in the numbers on the dyno which was 130hp 145 ft/t. after drivng it i wasnt so upset it was smooth and quite a bit quiker then my modded 7afe. Although I noticed my boost was max psi at only 7lbs i knew there had to be something wrong. We figured out that it was my intercooler leaking a lil. so hopes went up a lil. on my 9.5 hour drive home i noticed my boost not holding at 7 and it just kept getting weaker adn weaker. After I made it home i checked the belt to the S/C and it was slipping a lot. I tighted it down nice and tight took it for a test drive and WOW

IT WAS A WHOLE NEW CAR BOOSTING AROUND 9.5 10 AND IT SCREAMS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THEN WHEN IT WAS ON THE DYNO. once i get my new intercooler it should be AWSOME. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS SWAP FOR ANY 7AFE. MY BUDDY HAS A 92 300ZX and it should be a good run wink.gif biggrin.gif If your thinking of swaping a 4agze do it and call Tweak even if he doesnt do it he can help.

Thanks again Tweak

I will try to get videos if i can ever figure out how to post them.

So, I'm new to the forum and new to doing swaps to different motors. Well, I'm just new... Anyways, I want more power, and I was looking for engine swap, 3s out of my league, 4a has potential. So my question is, about how long would it take to swap a 4a with trans into my 95 st? And what am I looking at fabbing or swapping along with it?

well you posted kind of like "its been done and been done better" and that was a bit hating and the people saying the engine is ugly.. im just sayin.. this is a rare swap and we know tweak will do a good job, lets not clutter the thread up with heresay and cosmetic opinions

-Doc

Dr. I have a Celica Stx 92 and they tell me that the 4agze 16v is a plug and play swap for my car no adjust...just plug and play...is this true ???

Whoever told you its a plug and play should be slapped to death. Unless you got a FWD corolla thats a 4age, it ain't gonna be easy. You will need to redo the wiring, figure a way to work the P/S lines and if you want A/C do some custom wielding.
