my boss was playing that at work. he couldn't hear it so he kept playing it and it was driving me nuts! lol I didn't know what it was so I finally went over and asked what the noise was and he started laughing and explained it to me.

I'm 19 but I don't think my hearing is all that great (all that damn loud music rolleyes.gif ) but I heard it loud and clear

This same technology is being used by stores that have a problem with teenagers loitering outside and causing trouble. They play a loud annoying sound in this frequency range and it gets the kids to leave while not bothering the paying customers (who are usually older). damn kids, stay off my lawn

Looking at the chart, it looks like nobody will be able to hear the sound over 18.

I've heard about this in a science class...we lose some hair cells that let us hear when we listen to loud music, but certain types just die with age, so over time you can hear less and less frequencies. Apparently this frequency is one that the cells die off for before 20...

interesting, but I really have no use for a cell phone that rings without older people hearing, that's what vibrate is for...

I saw the commercial too, they dont actually play it on the commercial....they want you to text their number so they can send it to you & charge you $$$$$$$$$$!

I wonder how many people get this ring tone mixed up with the ACTUAL silent ring tone found here:The Silent Ringtone I guess its for assigning to people you dont wanna hear from lol

something is wrong... I can hear it too biggrin.gif

p.s.: there are few questions... like, what about volume? What about frequency range of speakers? wink.gif I tried that few months ago. I had that in my cell phone as ringtone. When I played it and turned volume to the max, everyone I asked heard that laugh.gif . And when I lowered volume level just a bit, they didn't hear that at all wink.gif

I think that's cool, although you might want to do a hearing test for each individual teacher. I can hear that tone. I'm a teacher and I'm 44. tongue.gif

Perhaps frequencies above 17kilohertz would be harder for older teachers (like me) to hear.

I think I have really good hearing. I can hear TV's in other rooms, just teh electricity buzz. It could be muted but I'd know if it's on because I can hear a high pitched noise. Same goes for my computer monitor and pc itself. it drives me nuts, to be honest.

yeah i know what you mean, it seems to vary between makes and types though, lcd's, plasmas and tft's isnt as bad as crt's and tube tv's. i could hardly use the displays at my previous school as gave me a massive headache after just a few minutes, and let's just say it wasnt really helping that they were flickering like crazy kindasad.gif

lol, we had a party today with a bunch of children, a few teens, and a bunch of adults. I came on here and used the first link to see if their could hear it, the noise was freaking the kids out, they were covering their ears like "stop it! stop it! stop it!"...but the adults couldn't hear except for this one 34 year old guy...odd? He must have some really good hearing...

The reason you probably can't hear bass is because your speakers cannot play bass that low smile.gif.
