Well, in addition to finding out that I screwed myself out of $14K today by taking the job at Scott AFB, I plow through a deer with the Celica on the way home from base tonight after bowling in the league. Damage seen below:

Looks to be mostly cosmetic. Getting an estimate tomorrow and most likely dropping off at the body shop tomorrow too.

Fortunately, Comprehensive with Geico covers "animal damage" as they put it. Unfortunately, the $1K deductible (hey gotta keep some kind of sanity with insurance premiums in NJ) is going to be a hard pill to swallow considering the untimely manner in which this happened.

I got a marker light I'll donate if you need it. It doesn't look like $1000.00.

I dissagree. That could easily run $1500.

That's what I'm thinking. Figure parts will probably be around $1K plus materials and labor. Will know more tomorrow. If all goes well it'll be in the shop by the end of the day.

$1,000 for parts? Is more damaged than in the photos? Looks like a damaged front bumper, sidemarker, fender, and headlight seal. Did a headlight mounting tab break? Was there any more damage besides that?

Don't know about the headlight seal mounting tab. Give that the seal is completely free of the headlight except for where it's pinched by the fender, I'd assume it broke. I thought the nose in itself was $600 or so???? Maybe it's not going to be $1K in parts.

All I remember seeing of the deer after impact was it spinning and flying away at about 10' off the ground. I hit it right in the chest with the front left corner of the car at about 50 MPH. It was a SOLID impact.

I had simalar damage that was 2600.00. I fixed it myself had the fender and bumber cover
painted, paid retail for a head light , fender, and bumper cover.it was 1200.00 to repair myself
if I would have bought used parts here and had them painted it would have been about 600.00.
I had a 2500.00 deductable. kindasad.gif

yeah my damage affected a similar area too. only difference was that both headlight tabs on one side broke and my airbag sensor was hit so those went off and consequently broke the windshield... frown.gif

good idea Randy...look into getting some used parts Fastbird, maybe you can save some money

ouch... but really, you should try to fix it yourself, you can get a used fender for like $75-125, a used front bumper for like $100-200, and a sidemarker for ~$10. then just have it painted, and it'll probably total less than a grand.

ouch. that sucks. i don't even wanna see the deer. maybe this would be an opportunity to upgrade to a gt-four bumper and hood to match your 3s while you're at it. or didn't you wanna do a curren conversion?

I talked about a Curren Conversion, but decided it's not worth it. Don't really like the GT4 conversion either, it's just too busy up front.

I would actually give fixing it myself a go if not for one thing: Time. I'm really pressed for time right now, considering I got that job in Scott AFB so most of my free time for at least the next month is going towards home improvements to get the house ready for sale. Another factor is space. I have no inside area to work on the car and have zero interest in working on it in a "natural" environment.

I'm going to talk to the body shop guy today and see if we can't work something out in terms of parts/labor like if I bring in the parts instead of letting him outsource them. Something to help out. I've got the $1K sitting there anyway, but it's not $1K that I expected to give up suddenly.

Well, here's the preliminary damage estimate:

Fender and nose are done for. Total replacement.
Hood took a couple of minor shots, needs fixing.
Headlight and High Beam on driver side need replacing, mounts broken
Radiator Support Crossmember shoved back, needs replacing.
Side Marker Light needs replacing.

I'm having the Geico estimate done today, and depending on how that comes in I'm going to try to find the parts and save my deductible.

Anyone know how much a new high beam and headlamp are?? If new they're going to be more than a couple hundred, I'm just going to drop the extra and get a set of projectors.

*Edit* Oh yeah, we have a confirmed kill. Saw the carcass on the way home from work this morning.

Wow! You talking each for low and high??? We'll see what the estimate comes in at later today, but if it's like that then I'm DEFINITELY getting the Projectors. How can I NOT?
