Yep, at last, after having sold my 1.8 ST, I bought my beloved Celica ST205 this saturday in Italy.
Ok, let's go for the photos first biggrin.gif

This beauty was first registred in november 94 and has 103.000 km. Full stock, and really good shape (only one fender would need some repainting since I am a maniac).

Mine was the first I ever drove, and waow my god tongue.gif
It accelerates like hell, I am already in love ! thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

When driving back from Italy to France, my mean fuel consumption was around 10.5 liters per 100 km, so quite few, I was surprised. I always heard this car was a pain with fuel consumption, but my old underpowered AE86 was almost as thirsty ! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I was a bit disappointent when I tried an ST185 and a Carlos Sainz in the past, and I must admit the ST205 is really on another level. I tried a top speed run on sunday on a French highway, I reached 260 km/h and the car would still tell me "come on, push it" laugh.gif

For now, first I will make a large check up, change the oils, spark plugs, filters... And later will come a standard BPU, with intake/exhaust/boost raise, some bronze wheels...

Thanks for reading smile.gif

LHD= left hand drive.. and that means... we could probably just register it as a USDM celi with their VIN# and drive it around without being noticed too much biggrin.gif

Oh yes ok, it is a left hand drive indeed.

As for the intercooler flush, yep, I will. Do you advise me standard coolant fluid ? Or should I go buy some specific coolant at a Toyota shop ?

I always use the standard Toyota 4-life stuff in my normal radiator (I have an SS-II) but everyone I know with a GT4 swears by the Toyota stuff for everything.

Finally, French Celica and it is even GT4!!! I looked around in Paris recently and I saw no Celicas at all. Also on the net - almost nothing about it on F pages.

Congrats, it's a beauty. biggrin.gif

Very very clean car. Good luck with it. Where in France are you? When i was in the South East of france i only saw 2 in 2 weeks and that was between like St. Raphel and Monaco. Nice to see a new French owner on the site, there were only 2 or 3 on here b4 but most of them just kinda disapeared.

that's one car i'd love to have, a left-hand drive st205. i wonder if it's legal to buy a LHD st205 from europe and register in north america?

also, what does the extra knob on the seat do? here we only have the knob in front.

just curious, we north american 6gc owners have the single knob on the driver seat which raises or lowers the rear part bottom seat (close to the back part).. what does the first knob in the front do? raises the front part of the bottom seat?

btw, nice thread

can't remember which one is which but the knobs tilt the bottom half of the seat and the other tilts the upper half of the seat. -R

Woow, many replies smile.gif

I will answer to everyone :

TomPoz > There are not many sports cars in France, and even less japanese cars, and even less turbo cars... frown.gif Yeah but the exception is, we have many kids with Hondas who think they are driving a rocket laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Valo666 > I am from North East of France, the exact name of the city is "Mulhouse", it is just 15 minutes from Germany and 15 minutes from Switzerland.

azian_advanced > Exactly what IGloo answered, it is to control your ass's height biggrin.gif

goferris > I think Toyota to did not export those beauties to America for the same reason they did not bring them to France : not enough customers for that kind of "civilized" rally cars.

Wolf_tm > I do not know if previous owner was member of any club... Actually I bought the car from a professional seller, who told me the previous older was about 45 years old, but that's all I know. I heard about the meeting in Parma some month ago already, I will check out. If I find some friends to come with me, why not smile.gif

Just for referance for people thinking they can bring Euro GT-Four to US.

Yes you can - BUT - be sure you will be spending bout 2500$ for shipping the car, second thing - be sure to look HARD enouth and pay donw atleast 12-14$ for a decent 96 gt-four. And good luck on registering it - exept if you go other way wink.gif Ya know what i mean biggrin.gif

I don't know how it works in the US, but in Europe, if you want to register a car that comes from outside Europe (example US or Japan), you must change all the parts that are not on "european standards" to fit those "european standards". That includes :
- seat belts,
- all the windows,
- all the lights,
- some electronics...

You have many technical controls to pass, like UTAC and DRIRE.
This takes at least one year and many many many Euros...

I went to a Toyota parts store this morning to buy some stuff :
- dizzy cap,
- rotor arm,
- LSD 75W90 oil...

I am going to change everything, to be sure I start from a good base.
I have a doubt, Toyota told me that the coolant fluid for the intercooler is no more than standard coolant fluid you use for the engine. Can anyone confirm this ?

Everyone I know uses standard Toyota 4Life coolant in theirs. While you have the bonnet up remove the underbonnet lining and the platic tray under the grill (assuming it's still there) as it will let out more heat. If your having the cooler off to flush it then I would lag it while it is off.

OK, If you are removing the charge cooler to flush it through as I recommended then get hold of some heat resistant wrap (lagging) and wrap the charge cooler in it. This prevents the hear from the engine heating up the cooler but the heat that the cooler is removing can still escape as it gets pumped out with the coolant.

Hope that makes sense.

LOL. It was a joke man. I'm just still bitter about not having the option of owning a GT4. "Green" as in save the trees and all that crap? There are also rumors that the American car manufacturers didn't like the competition that Japanese turbo cars were putting on the corvette and similar or that in the case of the GT4 - it didn't meet our crash ratings requirements.
All BS - it's because the ST-185 didn't sell well at all in the US.

Very nice buy. Seems like your car is going to love you as much as you seem to love it. NGK is the $hit! Are those the Ultimate Race Class wires? I have them and I love them. Also Iridium is so nice. Idle and Throttle response is so strong and smoooooth.

Congrats on the purchase mate, nice factory leather too.
Glad to see youve started on the modding path, its long and twisty but very rewarding.
And yeah, white is the fastest colour wink.gif

IIRC non JDM 239bhp
JDM 255bhp
JDM has a more aggresive ignition map to take advantage of 100ron japanese fuel

Beautiful car. I am going to be coming to France either this spring or this fall... I'm not sure where Mulhouse is, but I'd love to get together, if you want.

Mulhouse is east of France, near Germany and Switzerland. If you are near, it would be a pleasure wink.gif

I am looking for photos or explanation about how to flush and refill the intercooler coolant fluid, and same for the engine coolant fluid... If you know where I can find this...

Panda, where did you order the wire set from?

I could not find the proper wire set from NGK on my JDM 3SGE. Usually they have sets for 7AFE or 5SFE only.

I ordered them on eBay on this store : http://stores.ebay.com/Sparkplugssource

The exact reference for those wires is "TX69". He did not have this reference listed but I asked him, and he found some for me.
