My Celica has started to develop a problem with the power steering.
Very occassionally when I first start the car for the first few seconds the power steering feels notchy. It always goes away within 30 seconds, usually after just a couple of seconds or so. This morning was the 4th time I have experienced it over the last month, never before. I've checked the power steering fluid level and all the other fluid levels and all looks okay. What could the possible causes be and what can I do to try and cure the problem? -------------------- Davey

Okay, as long as the fluid is in good standing; Start by checking the belt. Look for any wear, tear, notching, cracking ect. If' that's good then go ahead and drain the fluid. (the easiest way is to remove the valve from the high pressure hose, the big on on the top, and start the car
![]() ![]() If that still don't slay your gremlin, then you'll have to pull the pump and start looking for some kind of a defect on it. At that point it may be easyest to replace if necessary. EDIT: i think the official way to drain you pump would be to remove the bottom 2 lines and set an oil pan under it, and wait for however long it takes to run dry. IDK for sure, (mine is leaking from the high pressure line due to a missing OEM washer ![]() This post has been edited by D-Man: May 30, 2008 - 3:01 PM -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! when it's notchy its usually not a power steering pump or fluid issue.
check the steering knuckle, where it connects to the rack in the engine bay. lube it up and see if that helps. -------------------- |
