There would have to be something incredibly wrong with the Toyota and something spectacularly amazing about the Subaru. And then the Subaru would move on straight away to buy a better Toyota.

Never would. WRXs are overplayed high school bull**** cars. If you are still in high school, well be my guest. You will fit right in with the crowd.

i have never known a high schooler with a WRX...
one did have a 22b or w/e, but it was trash.
Subaru's are great if you maintain them, and they are fast as well yeah. I scared the hell outa the salesman on a test drive...
...i guess letting the backend get loose on an on-ramp isn't his idea of fun. Least he was nice and said i was a good driver biggrin.gif!

I graduated 5 years ago from HS. I know of at least 10 that were in my public school parking lot. They are just like Evos. I see them everywhere and they are magnets for police.

Their Transmissions suck btw. The WRX that is.

oh god i agree about the evo's, they are everywhere, its annoying!!!
i hate it even more when its some idiot behind the wheel who thinks he's a bamf.. then when you race him, he cant even get the car off the line without almost stalling it!
but man, i wish i went to HS with you, nicest car we had when i was in HS was a mustang that a little spoiled princess got for free from her parents!

WRX is faster than Celica, Possibly even the GT4 stock for stock... But when you go and ask 4000+ Celica lovers if they would trade their car for a fast pile of **** like that what the hell are they gonna care for speed when they would have to give up good looks and good curves and good quality and most of all their passion?

If I'm not speaking for everyone here, then I'm willing to take the heat for that... I know how forums can get but I'm pretty sure nobody chose the Celica because it was the quickest thing their money could buy.

Just my opinion... I would trade my car for Subaru (maybe) but definitely not for WRX! WRX It's waste of money...

Well on paper the WRX has a similar curb weight to an NA Celica (Without Turbo/4WD running gear), At stock standard the WRX boosts almost twice the PSI of a GT-Four and we all know the boxer design is more energy efficient than inline motors... Not to mention WRX went from 2 litre to 2.5 litre.

I couldn't give a crap about any of that, I love 6gens, I love Toyota, and I love not sitting on the side of the road liking like a twat because my performance car is not performing at all.

Exactly, and with the Prodrive upgrade. Friend of mine just sold his 06 plate STi as the interior was awful... plastic paradise! kindasad.gif If you're talking about the Impreza's made at the same time as the GT4 ST205, then you need to remember that the pistons were actually made out of chocolate.

GT4 for my garage without hesitation. thumbsup.gif Only thing that endears that shape scooby to me is that Colin McRae used to drive them in the WRC - personal hero, RIP.

Hey mate Impreza are quite cool cars too. I'm lucky to own both.

I have a gen6 Celica GT-FOUR, & a subaru Impreza RB5 (1999)

I think the celica is sexier out of the two cars, both handle like a treat. The impreza (RB5) is lighter then the ST205.
The problems u tend to get on the impreza's is the 3rd piston, its close to the turbo and tends to heat up more then the others. But dont let you put that off.
Labour costs in the uk are cheaper too on the Impreza frown.gif

Yeah we got the P1's here in the uk LTD edition 2 door,
0-60 4.8 secs,

hold their value quite well, and a good toy to have.

After Subaru decided on dropping the 2.0 in lieu of the 2.5 in the WRX, I feel like I would be wasting my money on a STI.

There's one being sold (an 03 or 04?) at a used car lot where I work...$13K. I have no idea what these things go for...but for $13K I was tempted. But if I traded in my Celica...I'd get about $1000.

So...is that STi work 13 Celicas? Umm...not to me, it ain't.

i personally know of 4 well maintained subbys that blow, hard.

1: wrx brand new only 20k! on it. the tranny thats made of glass breaks.
2: wrx with 60k miles, again glass tranny breaks.
3: wrx looses all compression on cylinder #2, stock boost wink.gif
4: wrx looses all compression on cylinder #4.

leaves a very bad taste in my mouth, 4 different subbys, 4 different owners all experiencing similar problems.

other than that they are fun cars. handle great.

And these are the guys that are [possibly] gonna make the next GT4 with that exact engine/tranny setup? No thanks.
I'd rather we be Dinosaurs than to ruin the good Celica name [or what's left of it after the 7th Gens and their glass engines].

So many haters in this thread... Speed isn't what attracts me to cars, so I would have to say no thanks... That said, how do people think that ANY car is going to be reliable compared to a N/A, when you drive it "to it's potential" often, and it also runs tons of extra pressure in its internals, thanks to that turbo? Turbocharged engines wear out cars faster, plain and simple...

exactly, newer doesn't exactly mean more reliable. Buying for practicality on the other had, say 4 door sedan instead of the celi coupe, that makes sense.

I'm sorry but that statement doesn't amount to a hill of elephant turd. So,what you're saying is a 4-door sedan is more practical because we're all married with kids? The dude that made the post didn't say he needed to upgrade to a larger car...he said he had the availability to get a WRX... The ONLY 4-door sedan I'd personally be caught dead in is the TRD/Hybrid Camry.

I got rid of my unique, quick, reliable Celica and really regret it. Sure, my new car is a lot faster and handled better, but it's not nearly as reliable and isn't unique.

IMO: a car built 14 years ago with 180k is not as reliable as a car built 3 years ago with 50k (under warrente for 40k more miles)

IMO: a car that comes factory turbochanged is just as reliable as a car that comes factory NA, a car that comes N.A. then turbocharged is not as reliable as a car that comes factory turbocharged. Bottom line calling something reliable has nothing to do with the car, its trust with the company that built it, I trust toyota cars to be reliable, I also trust subaru cars to be reliable based on the fact that I have owned both for many years and know others who have owned for longer then that, that trust them, I dont trust Kia cars to be reliable, I dont trust deawoo cars to be reliable etc. unless your the original owner and have kept with factory maintanace perfectly and driven perfectly (including the road conditions) can you say in fact that a car is reliable or not, if you mod the car in any way, you cant say if the factory car is reliable for 180k + miles, you can say its a strong motor or very solid etc. point is 180k is a lot of miles, a lot has happend to the car durring that time that I belive made my celica less reliable then I could trust. others however can say theres is more reliable thus they trust theres more. I turst myself to keep my WRX in good shape as I did my RS, thus I trust it to run good and be reliable.

based on that I went shopping for a new-to-me car, I love my RS and wanted another subaru, I wanted more space, AWD, a good amount of power, and a warentee thus the choice was simple.

this is entirely about opinion, please take mine for what its worth, and nothing more.

WRX transmissions did suck in 2002. Trans upgrades were made for 2003. I still wouldn't launch mine, but that should go for any AWD car...

I had a Celica. I had two actually. Both were tons of fun and reliable, but everyone wants a new car. I had the choice - 14 year old car or 4 year old car. I took the WRX. My family has owned nothing but Subarus (mom drove 93 Legacy turbo wagon, now drives 99 Legacy GT, Dad drives 98 Legacy GT, Brother drove a 95 Legacy L sedan, now drives 04 Forester XT) and they have for about 10 years. I know they're reliable in both N/A and factory turbo.

If people have had transmission problems they probably were driving like asshats - and SOA still replaced them. When you drive like an asshat you break things. Plain and simple. Treat it right and it'll treat you right.
