Since I'm fan of history about WWII I have visited one of famous places - Eagle's nest. Our aim was not just to get there by bus but climb there by foot
![]() ![]() there is beautiful nature all around... ![]() ![]() ...and at last on a top ![]() ![]() the bonus picture: a horse

Thanks for comments folks
note: and what I have learned? Weather is tricky there... within few hours it can change from sunny through cloudy to heavy rain... so having a nice view is rally about luck. I so want to do that sort of trip around the major battle sites of WWII and WWI.
Mainly France because my granddad served over there during WWI and would liek to try and go to some of the towns he helped liberate. -------------------- ![]() 1994年 トヨタ 神々しい My Facebook My Bebo QUOTE (loll6g @ Nov 6, 2008 - 5:53 AM) automatics are for lazy ass drivers who jst want there car so that they can look cool |

May I ask why build something all the way up there? Is it like some secret command center or something?

May I ask why build something all the way up there? Is it like some secret command center or something? really it was just one more big thing that Hitler did. The idea was that he had a place to hide if the US made it that far he could see and diffend the whole area. Man think about what the US troops had to go through to get there. There really wasnt much resistance by the time the 101st (i think it was) took the Nest. crazy to think what they went through to get there and what it must have been like to stand there at that time. IMO WWII was the last heroic war this world has seen. |

When you were there, how did it make you feel? I realize that may be a strange question... being Jewish, I was brought up with an acute awareness of the events of WWII, and of course specifically the Holocaust. I would imagine that for myself, I'd feel a strange sense of guilt almost for appreciating such a beautiful place with a beautiful view, that was inspired for and by such pure evil. I guess karmically, it's kind of God's way of having the last laugh over Hitler, kind of a spiritual or dogmatic fcuk-you.

I guess karmically, it's kind of God's way of having the last laugh over Hitler, kind of a spiritual or dogmatic fcuk-you. Honestly... only one picture on the wall reminds Hitler him self. Nothing else... Place as it is is full of tourists enjoying beautiful view and feeding birds... only reminders I have found are "how this place has been build" no "why...". that's why more walking uphill made me thing about US troops climbing there or that effort to make whole pathway up... That means Eagle's nest is moreabout pleasant view than about history. note: I can say more "freezing" feelings I had on Omaha beach or between white stone crosses on cemetery (because of number of those crosses)... and the most gloomy feeling I have has so far in Terezin fortress (during WWII known as Theresienstadt concentration camp). No one can imagine that feeling being there and see that place... there is nothing beautiful or pleasant to see. Terezin deserves only respect and should not be forgoten. That's why I have been there... -------------------- No more replicas... This is evolution... This is SS-four :)

Dude, those photos are AMAZING! Looks like we have a bunch of WWII era fans on this site. Man, I'd love to see the "nest" up close and personal. -------------------- My new, blue spark plug wires gave my Celica, roughly, 250 more horsepower..
