Well I finally did it. I found a private importer here in Oki and my car is heading for the U.S. in February or March. I have been researching and I finally found the answer. For those of you who want to send ur Celis back to the U.S. Here is wut u do. SEND IT BACK AS A K.I.T CAR. Shell in one container and motor in the other. the importer I found is doing just that for me. So hopelfully I can make it to these state side meets. lol. P.S. Send the motor about 3 months apart from the shell. DOT is a stickler about this. But yeah I'm looking forward to seeing You all next year.

I was wondering how to do that. I want to pay someone off to have my vin destroyed after conversion and register as a kit car once I end up doing conversion. Then buy the vin# for it for $600-800, I wouldn't mind. Darn thing has a salvaged title anyways.

$12,000. Its alot but. At the same time its a good price. Less than a new Honda and an average price range for a used car. Plus like I said he imports it, titles it, registers it.

12 K + the cost of the car itself

I guess you love your celica more than I love mine, for that price, you could have taken the mods out of yours, ship them to US, buy another 6gc and install the mods and have enough money left to swap decent engine in it, but like I said, you love the celi and I'm sure you'll be happy once you get it back and drive it on US roads.

Congrats !

Holy ****! So can this be done with a GT4 as well, or would those still be too risky?

that's what a guy here in Houston did with his 2000 Toyota Chaser. Had it disassembled into pieces (body panels in one container, frame in another, and motor in another) and shipped over in the course of a few months, pieced it back together and is now pimpin ***** around town. I heard customs is catching on to that stuff lately though, but I dunno. It's just something I heard along the grapevine.

Customs can look into it all they want. Its not illegal. A vehical is deffined as anything with a motor that can transport and object from point A to point B. So if there is no motor it is no longer classified as a vehicle. Its is mearly a shell.

Thanx man. Word to the wise. Choose u words carefully. When ur asking about a car. don't say vehicle or car. Call it an assemblige.

offtopic but i went on a cruise last year and the cayman islands (west of jamaica) is loaded with Evos, R33 R34 skylines (a silver nicely modded one in fact), FTOs, and even saw my first curren there. basically felt like being in japan all over again but more tropical.

same thing is Dominican Republic, you can import any car you want, I think last year they passed a law that says you ahve to do a LHD conversion in order for the car to be legal, but there are still ways around that too.

ok, what you guys can do, is just bring the shell, and buy an engine here from ebay. That makes it a kit car. buy a st205 with a bad engine, and then toss it.

that's exactly right.
sooner or later customs/DOT is going to realize these are real production cars & not kit cars.
some have illegal VIN's that belong to another car/model altogether. (e.g. a ST205 with a VIN belonging to an ST so it could be registered & titled here)
i wouldn't be suprised to hear in a couple of years about a lot of these cars getting confiscated & crushed.

personally, it's something i wouldn't do but, i'm old & don't want to see a car taken away from me & crushed tongue.gif
