Im thinking about selling my celica.............

to get my dads 77 celica up, running, looking good and simply back to where it should be.

damn thing doesnt/didnt want to start up

and it finally did

alot of work needs to be done.

did some 2hrs of research prior to this post and i've found some people in Aus, Japan, and Philippines to get parts from.

main thing im worried about is the body and engine. the tranny, suspension, interior is alright. Hawaii just sux when it comes to old skool things. the weather and time hasnt been kind to this Ra24/29 kindasad.gif

rust on the left corner of the rear glass section, rust on the rocker panels, 1 door is shot, rust right where the rear window section is, a massive hole where rust can be seen inside frown.gif

this car has been in the family since my dad bought it back in Oct. 76 "NEW!"
my dad is losing heart in this car after 30+ years of service without a single problem besides regular maintenence.
everything i mean everything is OG, engine trans, interior (even though its shot), suspension, I mean everything.

i dont want this car to go to anyone or anywhere. i want this car to stay in the family for another 30+ years if possible.

someone hit me or hit my dad (if you dare to try laugh.gif )

I wanna keep my car, but i have more love for this car than my own frown.gif
i learned to drive with this car and i love it to death. i recently put the plates in storage.

my plans was to drop a 1jz or 5m in it but decided to stick to the 20r. mabye a 20r/22r hybrid. I pretty much wants this car restored because it deserves all that attention for the years of great service. frown.gif

what should/can i do??? anyone got sources to body parts??? maybe some international people could show some light kindasad.gif
what to do?? what would you do in my situation??

made up my mind. all things for the gen6 will stop. im done, im selling, i want the 77 up and running.

maybe down the road i can get another 6gc, but i know it will never get the attention i gave this one and surely wont be in the great condition this one is in.

I can't blame you for wanting the 77', those Celis are nice!

Why do you have to sell the 6th gen though? Two cars too expensive...?

no just restoring the 77 is gonna bust my nut. so the 6 has to go and the $$ i get from the sale will buy 2 c/f doors, 2 c/f fenders, and a 22r engine mixed with a 20r from the one it has now.

basically my dad wants it gone, i have to other choice i love this car more since its been in the family all its life.

yeah i know just made the decision not to long ago. since the 77 isnt running and i paid to put it in storage we really cant use it.

the vids show a hard day for the car. carbs is going/gone my dad wants it gone but i dont. so im selling mines to get the 77 up and running, and out of storage.

pretty much selling my Passion to fund my Dream.

Well that makes sense. It would be cool to have a bad ass old school import though. I know 77's are quite hard to find (That is a TA22, correct?) Anyways, Best of luck to you man. If you disappear here, you know where you can reach me brudda (yeah had to toss that Hawaiian in there! LOL).

Good decision. I would suggest thinking of all the different engine you could possibly drop in it. Whatever you do you will get respect for it, even honda engine smile.gif (Im thinking that old celica with the s2000 engine).

You know, I understand why you'd want to keep it and I understand why you'd love it so much, but if your dad wants to let it go, you should...your 6G is your car, and you've put money, work, and sweat into it...why give that up for an older car that's had a good life?

yeah martin i know i know its hard for me to choose. kinda cried before i went to be too frown.gif

Well i pretty much grew up around that car, went to places with that car, and pretty much "that" car fueled my love and passion for the Celica lineup. This 77 is a peice of me i dont want to let go. Soo much history i have with this car. Yes this car has a good life, it still kicks hard, it would do it justice, and pretty much a tribute and test of my love. I have some pics of the car when my dad was my size, my age, my height, etc..........and simply put.............I was made for this car.

Well i know its gonna take awhile for the 6 to sell, so with the last minutes/hours/days closing, i'll try to have the best time with the car.

what can i do?? there is no other options i have frown.gif

IDK about your financial situation, but is there gonna be a time when you're making more cash? I'd hate to see that creativity go. How much are you selling it for?

Yeah I get that, but what about keeping both...putting the '77 aside, using the 6G as a DD but stopping the money flow into it, and then slowly restoring the older one? So you don't have to compromise. But I'm guessing your monetary situation doesn't allow you to do that.

And if you want, trade for mine? It's worth 5.5k laugh.gif

that's what i've been doing this whole time frown.gif but hawaii sucks and no one sells parts for it.

I found another celica in the neighboring island of Maui. $900 complete car.

pretty much i want the car up and running "NOW" All or nothing, that's what my dad is thinking........or what im thinking he's thinking. frown.gif

the car is on the side of our house under tarp..........which it should be in the garage instead of my car frown.gif

to my dad its space issues and "he" has no use for it ever since he bought that stupid Taco frown.gif

can you believe it was my dads DD ever since Oct 1976 - February 2006, never gave him a problem, this car could go around the island no problem biggrin.gif
DAmn 30 years of perfect running and now my dad wants it gone frown.gif I have a box full of OEM interior peices i bought, extra tails, extra heads and the trim, various weather stripping rubbers, Red dragon emblems, extra set of those door ding protector things, just bought fender mirrors of a GTV in japan, and trunk and hood hinges.

im currently looking for some 45mm side drafts wink.gif fenders, hood, bumper/grille valences, something to replace the rockers kindasad.gif, i need the whole rear quarter panel for the driver's side, 2 doors would be nice, all suspension/brake parts, trunk spoiler would be nice too, some fender flares, 20r/22r parts or pretty much ALL under the hood things.

If hawaii didnt have soo much salt in the dang air the car would be CHERRY!!!

i know everyone is praying that it doesnt sell, but i hope it does. for the situation you are i in i hope you get the money. i wish there was a better way to get it (prostitution, child sex slave ring) but i can see that you thought through this. we are like long lost brothers, i put myslef in the position and i would do the same thing. i just hope in the future you get another celica, its a stretch but you never know what might come up.

oh, and dont sell the celica locally. i know you are like me and you would hate to see someone driving your baby around town.

Sorry to see you've made up your mind already about selling the 6gc. I know what it's like to have a father who wanted to sell a car that has been in the family since I was a kid. I guess the difference is that my father actually went through with it, without even telling me about it. It was hard to accept at first, but cars come and go. If it was meant to be, then I shouldn't have had to force things to work out. I guess someday when I'm ready, I'll just go buy my another Porsche 911(964) turbo. It's funny though, that car came from overseas, and the person who ended up buying it was overseas too so the car had to be shipped across again haha. As much as I loved that car, I know my dad didn't sell it for space reason alone. I know he loved that car too, but I believe financial situation played a factor as well, so I understood that family comes before any car. The person who purchased our car was some sort of movie producer and said he was buying the car to use in a movie (hopefully not as a stunt car). How much would that suck to see the car you gave up become the next famous movie car like Eleanor haha. Highly doubtful that could happen, but you never know!

Anyways, goodluck with whatever happens. If you need help finding any parts for your RA Celica then let me know, I have connections to classic japanese car parts. A first gen Celica is a project I would like to tackle in the future myself as well. Best of luck.

Very good move, IMO. I am in love with the older Celicas and nothing would give me the satisfaction of making my own car like an older Celica would.

As far as the engine I would recommend a 1JZ and just put some BPU's on it (should give you around 275-300WHP). And a full wood grain interior would be awesome. Any pictures of it?

Now I want to see my 6g and pick up one of those. I've always liked the looks of them, especially the fastback. Plus RWD. If you source a F20C (As was suggested) from someone who's wrecked their S2000 trying ti realize their dream of being a professional drifter, you'll have one of the fastest cars around, and it will look ****ing hot at car shows and meets. Even so, I ****ing love the look of those cars and no matter what you do with it as a project it will look spectacular (this word is gay).

Go for it.

keep them both, you've had the car for 30 years, I dont' see the problem in stretching out another couple of years for you to gather funds...I dont' think space is that big of an issue, if you're creative u should be able to find a place to keep it while you gather mula. Good luck anyhow, if you're happy in the end then the decision was a good one
