Ok, so in the process of the resurrection of our car, we're shaving the door handles, and moving up to an aftermarket alarm, most likely the Clifford Matrix RSX 3.3 as it has the amount of aux outputs necessary for operation of door solenoids and a trunk solenoid as well as remote start feature and even a turbo timer feature.
Our 99 is equipped with the Toyota RS3000 alarm system, and the ONLY stuff I can find is people talking about putting it in a car, not bypassing it in lieu of an aftermarket alarm system. So....... Do I need to bypass the RS3000 alarm system, or can I leave it installed and not activated or unplug the module to ensure no accidental activation of the alarm. Has anyone here actually removed their factory alarm or bypassed it for another full aftermarket alarm? -------------------- |

I think you need the thing plugged in otherwise you can't even start the car. On my old one I pretty much just hack and slashed away at the wires that lead to the doors, locks ect and for the Main wires ones that made the car go vroooom, I actually had to splice all those back together. Just follow and trace, its all color coded and same gauge. I matched them up and got rid of the alarm which was missing the remote.

I'm going to tear into it and hope that I come across jumper plugs where everything just got plugged in to make it work. Oh I can wish. -------------------- |

Well, I ordered the alarm today, didn't feel the need for anything brand new model year so I went ahead with the RSX 3.3 from Clifford still. Got a decent deal, $189.75 shipped.
I've found a lot of good information on here in terms of wiring diagrams (or colors, general harness areas) and such, but there's NOTHING out there for a simple bypass module. I found the pinout for the stock alarm, so what I'm going to attempt to do is make a plug and play connector that connects to the factory plug in that goes to the factory alarm. This connector would have bare wires sticking out of the end of it, and make for a rather quick and completely integrated aftermarket alarm installation, if my thinking is correct. More to come. -------------------- |

Another update: The VIP/Toyota RS3000 alarm system was a plug and play system. Each connection is made via a "interruptor" plug, I.E. you unplug the factory component and plug it into the alarm harness, then plug the alarm harness into what the factory plug was mated with. I'm probably going to have to gut the interior, but I should be able to completely remove the alarm without doing a bunch of cutting/splicing.

I'll take the RS3000 off your hands if you are just going to throw it out.
