I think I have an overheating problem.. Looking at gauges it looks fine, but it heats up pretty fast (about half way+) and EZlube pointed out that my coolant had rust.
When checking the levels of coolant, it looks like it's completely dry. Might have to add distilled water, as I don't know what it's supposed to look like. On the fan though. Should it run if it's completely cold? Or does it only turn on once the engine is warm? Thanks |

Thanks guys!
Do I add water to the plastic overflow reservoir on the right, or straight into the radiator where the metal cap is in the middle? This post has been edited by Xvani: Jun 27, 2010 - 6:33 PM |

I always add water straight to the radiator.
The fan will run more when it's hot out and you're going slow or stopped, especially if your A/C is running. Sounds like you need to drain and flush your radiator if there's rusty crap inside it. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

Well aware, but I'm selling the car in a couple of days anyway =) How do I check the radiator coolant level? (middle one - not overflow) |

Thanks! Well aware, but I'm selling the car in a couple of days anyway =) How do I check the radiator coolant level? (middle one - not overflow) When it's full, it's full. There's no level, it should just be filled to the top with coolant and distilled water. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT
