Hello everyone ,
Since last year timing worked perfect I believe it is right time to start talking about calendar 2014 (if we want some here of course smile.gif ). I suggest this timing:

June - August = submitting some low resolution samples here in this topic (width 800 pixels would be for display purpose fine) to let us all know how many people is interested to participate.
August = collection of high resolution samples for print purpose (3437 x 2043 pixels or higher). That means if you do not have picture in high resolution there is no sense post in here anything. Sorry. All will be send as usual to my e-mail.

1st of September = selection of 12+1 (public voting, no mistakes from the last year)
15th of September = FS topic start
15th of October = calendar printing
November = distribution to all buyers (so you all will have it at home before Christmas for 100% smile.gif ).

Update September 1st:
The list of posted pictures created to not miss anyone.

thats a fair timeline. more than enough time to get some pictures together.

what what design will you be going with? I recall that took up a but of time to decide. Just throw some random pics in as placeholders and we could figure out that part now!

Thanks all for inputs. I believe there is great potential to collect 13 decent pictures smile.gif. About design of calendar I have just an idea. I remember voting (one A4 as 2012 design or 2xA4 as 2013 design) and it was pretty close. So right now I lean to simple A4 size with new layout. I will throw something to Photoshop and post.

Only what is needed now from all who want to participate is:

If members are thinking of entering, suggest you have a look at the previous years calendars for ideas, also I think it's worth a look at the photoshop, Celica of the month or any photography help thread/s or other photography sites to help with shooting photos of your celica, have fun and best of luck to everyone.

and malpaso, if you'd like some announcements made or anything special done to the threads pm me smile.gif

Thank you so much mate! It is exactly as Rusty wrote. And remember "the rule of thirds" wink.gif. It will help to use the picture if design below (or something similar) is used:

For something like this wide format of the picture will be needed (or classic but with chance to crop it)

AAAAh... Mate. You gave me inspiration smile.gif . See this:

When having similar composition for all remaining pictures it would be great calendar!

in fact even not that perfect one can be "tweaked"... below 4:3 (wrong ration) and central composition:

when moved and cropped it gives some space to work with...

And after some stretching on the top we have at least this:

Yes. Nothing stunning... but with added calendar layout (just slightly modified) it is not that big tragedy at all (IMO):

I like this!!!!

It would be pretty good if the images were in that thirds format, but even so, I think it will work smile.gif
I might edit that photo of mine again, remove that patch on the wall. Haha

I love what we did with last yaer in terms of layout. with a large pic on top, and a smaller pic with the squares/dates on the bottom page.
Looks great.

Instead of the faded solid black colour, why don't you try and experiment with a faded carbon fiber pattern? smile.gif Just a suggestion, might as well see what it looks like smile.gif

here is another detail shot.
I was thinking of hitting up Art (lagos) and seeing if I could get a similar shot of his car so there would be some of the vents of the gt-four hood in the pic. Itd probably look a bit more interesting than a plain ol st204
Maybe find a corner to throw this shot in?

Doubtful, besides Ted95, coomers and a few others, I havent seen much interest from coupe owners in personalizing and adding to their rides. Not that that is a requirement, but it does help.

That would be a very tastefull addition. Not to flashy, subtle yet defining.

This one. You can see the whole stance of the car, which is great, your car sits very well, and there is not the industrial building in the background, which brings the focus more on the celi. I think this is a good pic, and the gt4 Wheels looks great. Having the shot in more, like the third option, you lose some of the dramatic element that is present when the shot is of the full car. Just my thoguhts, but there it is.

Btw, you're not allowed into the calendar if you haven't cleaned the brake dust off your rims before pics... sorry tongue.gif

And JPG should be good enough for most things except for extensive editing. I only shoot RAW when I have some intention to post-process, otherwise it is easiest to go full resolution, max detail JPG.

So not like this?

In saying that, the pic I posted earlier would be covered in brake dust. Car was filthy. Haha
Also as far as I knew the jpeg was the same resolution, but not as good quality as its already processed?

Anyway, think we should leave this thread just for the calendar entries now.

Raw Pixel dimensions will be the exact same as your L Jpg pixel dimensions

Raw is just an uncompressed file, you wont be able to really tell the difference in the end result (which is the calendar hah)

Got cleaned this morning, then I drove 300km and they got dirty again LOL....

I only shoot on RAW, hardly ever on JPG.
RAW images are so much easier to adjust and 'fix' if something goes wrong...
The JPG images were only 1888x by something pixels which isn't large enough for the calender...

The photos I got last night were large enough, but I forgot all about positioning and none are suitable for the calender as they arn't positioned right...

Life...

Yeah, bottom one is a stunner. Malpaso may need to work his magic to get it all to fit in properly, but it'd be worth the effort! smile.gif

Here is my best one thus far, but I will get some more once I have the projectors and stuff installed smile.gif

photoshop the projectors in! haha
thats a great shot, hopefully you can replicate it once you throw in the projectors

here is my mockup of the cover idea I had so far. I am playing around with different typefaces still, cant really settle on one. The color of course can be changed to match whatever the color scheme the rest of the calendar will be

That's looking pretty mint!!
I think add the monthly winners on there, in the gap between the 'celicas' and TEQ symbol and a transparent view of their name? Or spanned across the bottom? Haha

And possibly see what malpasso wants as the cover tongue.gif

the monthly winners aren't necessarily going to be in the calendar so it might get confusing

I will churn out a couple slightly different setups maybe this weekend and post them.
I am TERRIBLE on settling on a final

I like the way you done the 6G part. The transparent works well.
Also by the 'monthly winners' I meant the members that make it in the calendar! smile.gif

God damn it, now nothing I take will be good enough ;(
I like the first and last tongue.gif

Also to clear up before, the JPG settings were NOT at the highest for some odd reason, thus why it was 1888px....
When I put it to full its 3888px by something lol...

Yeah, I would have definitely gone with the yellow - it brings out the colour of the calipers rather than compete with it.

I'm also a bit undecided on which pic I like more... I'm actually leaning a bit more towards the original cropped in one... Or maybe crop the latter one a little bit to find some middle ground?

Btw, what does everybody think of windows up vs windows down for photo shoots? I used to think always do windows up but the photo shoot that my photo on the previous page came out of was all done with the windows down and I like them too tongue.gif

The sunroof definitely looks best on tilt for photo shoots though.

+1 The bright yellow contrasts too much with the rest of the engine bay, and it catches your eye too much... Darken/change the colour of the battery and this would be perfect smile.gif

That is exactly why I do this just for hobby smile.gif . I like contrast and what is for someone disturbing is for me refreshing. Anyway. I took off 67% of that battery saturation and not sure at all. It is big area and always will be...

Only color change can take it completely "non eye catching"...

I do not know... but maybe really "blue edition" is the best when comparing previous options smile.gif . I played with the same idea also on some other picture:

Here (since MALPASO plate on yellow is used) I do not see that battery that "eye catchy" (but I may be mistaken biggrin.gif)

You still have heaps of time to get some good ones tongue.gif

Some tips (IMHO):

Nobody is going to hang your P-Plate on their wall... plan out when you are going to take your pictures and remove those sorts of distractions.

Angle - You don't really have anything to show off under your car... perhaps a slightly higher angle will be more flattering (And more discerning lighting).

Location and Lighting - Although quite simple with the lighting used there are a few elements of the location that have become distracting like the signpost / IGA sign / gutter etc. And the lighting under the car brings up a few imperfections and has blown out a couple of highlights.

Its a cool shot - but calendar pics require a lot more planning tongue.gif

My immediate area is terrible for photography... Might be good down around Cronulla or something, but at night there is hardly any light anywhere since half the street lights are always out kindasad.gif

Hey guys,

So I really wanted to take some pictures to submit for the calendar but the rain has been dreadful! Well, I went out anyways. Here are a few edits with different manipulations. What does everyone think?

I'm still a noob with this camera AND it was going to downpour at any time (as you can see)...so any suggestions are appreciated! tongue.gif

Sorry if I'm uploading too many pictures but I'm really trying to land a month!

I like the second one.
play with it a bit more in your editing program, you have more than enough time before the due date!

also it looks like there was something on the lens or some sensor dust. There is a gray circle on the left in the clouds, just clone that bad boy out

Some of my recent shots, hopefully I can get out again and do some more before the end of August.

IfWeChoose, nice shots and interesting dof. Maybe lift the camera up off the ground a little bit more and then tilt the lens down slightly (should give you the same effect but with less grass on the side) Or take another new approach, see the notes I write in COM, as it has some good links/info about taking photos, ie rule of thirds and framing your shot

Hey thanks Rusty! Yeah I'm just going to execute a couple other ideas I have. Thanks for the pointers! I really like both of your pics but especially the second one!

darn.
In September for the Colt State park meet, I am bringing my photo stuff to do a couple photoshoots (especially of Richee's car)

Unless you extend the deadline by a month I doubt those photo's will make the cut.

I could get so many peoples cars!

Is the calendar going to have the boxes for the days where you can write stuff in like last year ??

Unlike the previous year which was just numbers on a photo...

I really liked being able to use it this year biggrin.gif
