How is it wrong... it's the best advice that one can give to an already saturated topic. ![]() |

not really wrong but think about this if we didn't have so many repost sooner or later we would have nothing left to talk about... all the new threads would only be on the OT... -------------------- |

I dont think there are THAT many reposts that the entire forum is dependant upon them.
Then again nobody really talks about what their doing or anything real ground breaking because its all hush hush. -------------------- |

I've been sharing my stuff... it's all documented in my project diary in the Completed Swaps sticky. I update that thing whenever I do something new to my car. ![]() |

I agree! I think sphinx can also vouch for this swap, as can Qatar and a couple others. For me, the wait was totally worth it: Before: After: ![]() ![]() |

damnit ray, fix up your car and submit to some magazines or somethin. its way too beautiful (and potent) to be kept under covers.

the reason i say it isn't worth it..... the 4a-gze will drop right into the stock motor mounts with a 7a-fe.... and if need be, you can even use the same c52 tranny (good up to about 200hp)..... but the ae101/late ae92 e51 tranny with lsd would suffice
now... for the price..... a 3s-gte (if you pick up a low mileage one) costs more for just the motor than i've seen for several map based 4agze HALF CUTS... which is everything you could need plus more (and when you get the body panels, just re-sell them and make some of the money back). Plus you don't have any worry of custom parts. now yes... the 3s-gte is much more potent and a much stronger engine. but with that, it is heavier, and with more power (and just FWD) you're going to have a lot of wheel hop (unless you're driving on slicks all day) whenever you try to accelerate quickly. And with the light weight of these cars, it doesn't take much to get them going. plus the gze is just about as versatile as the 3s-gte is for upgrades.... there are even several twincharged ones out there..... so, IMO a 3s-gte from a 7a-fe isn't worth it.... |

1. You can use the mounts that come with the clip or GT mounts, depending on which tranny you use. 2. Trannies are relatively inexpensive. A better tranny is worth the expense for the extra power. 3. 2nd 3S-GTE "clips" are usually around $1000 to $1500, roughly $400 more than a 4A-GZE. If you're going to spend the time, money, and effort on a swap, why not save up a little extra for this better option. 4. Custom parts? Nothing was customized with my swap, unless you call mating MR2 inner half-shafts with 1990 V6 Camry outer half-shafts a custom job. 5. Wheel hop? Yes, you'll wheel hop when you punch on the gas in 1st and 2nd gear. However, if you half-throttle, and punch it in the upper RPM's, this is negligible. It's not someone is gonna say, "Hey, I'll race you to the finish line in first gear." If you race someone from a rolling start (i.e. on the freeway, which I do not condone), there is NO wheel hop. Simply put, it's not difficult to learn how to drive a high-powered FF vehicle. 6. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons. If you're looking for SERIOUS power, I'd recommend paying the extra money for a 3S swap. If you're looking for decent power just so you can *cough* beat all those Honda's that you all have trouble beating *cough*, then go with a 4A-GZE swap. If you need someone to do your wiring, with have a respectable member on the boards that will do it for a great price. Mike (Qatar), the wiring master, will help you setup in no time. I can see where you're coming from, toyotaspeed. But once you've actually driven a 3S-GTE power Celica, you really won't understand that this swap is worth every penny. Just my $0.02. |

It'll happen in due time... I have other top priority expenses that need to be handled first. To simply put things... I'm saving to buy a house. Thanks for the support bro. |

lol.... 1/2 cuts aren't that cheap everywhere else..... i can understand that in cali they're cheap..... but they're a bit more here (or adding on extra shipping from california doesn't help either).
i guess mainly my thing is i really don't care about 1/4 mile.... and i've built my car for lightweight and non peaky n/a power all for auto-x and road course.... which it's great for. And after i did my 4a-ge swap (using a 4a-fe ecu & wiring harness, with a tuned ecu) and it was so simple (done in 5 1/2 days) compared to a more custom job (ie silvertop 20V... like coomers which took a SHOP 6 months)..... kinda makes you wanna help others in the simplest way possible..... like i said... it's all my opinion.... |

I know what you mean. In Coomers case and my case... the shops were just being difficult. Mind you, my swap took longer (1.5 years) because the shop I went to kept putting other people's cars ahead of mine just to keep the cash flow going and it spent about 6 months of thta time in the body shop. What I should have done was take my car to someone who works out of their garage, like what my teammate did. A swap shouldn't take very long. It's the wiring that will take a while, but from what sphinx told me, Mike did his wiring in less than 2 weeks. I know you're trying to help, which is a good thing. But this is what I think: It totally depends on one's goals. Is a 3S-GTE swap worth it in a AT200? Well, to best answer this question, I would have to say that the answer would be totally based on (and relative to) ones goals and expections. If someone is seeking 250+ HP easily with not too much modifications, go with a 3S-GTE. If someone is seeking decent power, go with toyotaspeed's suggestion, the 4A-GZE swap. I knew that I wouldn't be content with a 4A swap, and I wanted to have a ST205 Hybrid (minus the AWD of course), which is why I went the 3S route. well.... a gze can put out quite a bit more than 200 or 250hp..... and even if you turbo it it's quite potent...... a simple pulley swap will put the latermodel gze around 200hp..... and that's simple!
i shouldn't even be the one talking about this... i'm all about keeping it n/a & running a map sensored 4a-ge with plans of ITB's, lol |
