Please change it so that members can leave feedback without providing a thread url. I sold a member on here a turbo, and there was never a post made about it, it was all done through pm's. It's pretty silly that If I want to sell/buy something on here and receive or give feedback, I have to make a post about it.
EDIT: While I see the benefit in having a link to a FS thread (let's other members see exactly why that person got the feedback they did), it leaves people who've made a transaction through pm's only, out of luck. Maybe put a checkbox and say "thread url (if applicable)"? |

I thought this through when I was developing this, and a thread URL is required, and will always be.
I require a thread URL so that people can't just randomly add to other users' reputation, which would render the system completely useless because of abuse that would surely happen at some point. Also, it's advised that all transactions go through the buying/selling forum anyway, so that both parties are more protected. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

I ran into this problem once, but did this:
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=41609 The seller actually HAD a thread selling these, but it was a few years old, so the rep system would not take it. It was a great transaction, and needed feedback! -Collin This post has been edited by snapshotgt: Oct 10, 2006 - 11:43 PM -------------------- Past: V6 Swapped 6G Celica, E46 BMW M3, Jeep Wrangler TJ

The reputation system is only in place for already-existing transactions that have been made in the buying/selling forum since the reputation system was put into place. Otherwise it just won't work. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

I am a member on multiple other boards that do not require a URL, some of which have 10x the amount of users as this site, and their reputation system works just fine. Sure, every once in a while you will have one idiot who decides to act like a child, but those situations are dealt with ease and promptness. QUOTE Also, it's advised that all transactions go through the buying/selling forum anyway, so that both parties are more protected. How exactly am I being protected by posting a For Sale thread? If I get screwed over, is a staff member going to see that I get my money/product? Unless you were granted legal authority, the only thing that you guys can do is ban someone. Or are you saying that If I posted PM's showcasing the whole transaction, and it was obvious I was getting screwed over, that you wouldn't take any action just because a FS thread that would've been useless, wasn't posted? It's flawed, period. You are being too paranoid about people going crazy and leaving random feedbacks. The very small amount of time it would take to resolve one of those rare occurances, is far less a nuissance than preventing a good portion of 6gc's transactions from going on record. I have many transactions with 6gc members just via PMs. No FS/WTB topics needed for this... When I recive PM with question like "can you buy for me some part in Europe and send to my place", why post FS topic??? Just for reputation system???
So question is: "Is more important some number of transactions displayed under my avatar or real reputation for people who know me?" IMHO: I'm not here for business so more important (for me) is real reputation between friends... -------------------- No more replicas... This is evolution... This is SS-four :)

IMHO: I'm not here for business so more important (for me) is real reputation between friends... You've misunderstood the point of my post. I don't think there is a single person who cares more about reputation points than they do friends. I'm not trying to impress people on the internet with the number of reputation points that I have. I'm just pointing out the silliness in having a system created for the purpose of informing people of other member's business practices (so that they may decide if it's a good idea to do business with them) yet having it exclude a HUGE portion of the transactions on here. The thing is, there's no way for us to verify that these transactions happening in PMs actually happen. We'd be opening the system up to abuse, which would render it useless. I'd think that it's better having it how it is now than having it be worthless because people abuse it.

You have a good point, but do you really think it would be that big of a problem? I can't see that really happening, but then again, maybe I'm just giving people here a little too much credit.

Chris, I'm sorry, i had no clue. It does not state ANYWHERE in the rules that this cannot be done. So i feel already "warning" me is pretty strick. Taking this into consideration, i think you should make it possible to leave feedback to really old threads. B/c when i went to leave feedback for this item, it would not let me due to the oldness. here is the thread: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...7201&hl=LSD Anyway, i'd also suggest keeping an eye in B/S b/c other people have made new thread for feedback. -Collin -------------------- Past: V6 Swapped 6G Celica, E46 BMW M3, Jeep Wrangler TJ

The buying/selling forum was for buying and selling threads only...I just assumed people would figure that out.
As far as leaving feedback for old threads, if you read the old discussion threads while the reputation system was being developed, you'll see why I chose to limit it to newer threads only. And please, let me know if you see any threads like yours and I'll remove them. I'll also clarify the rules a little bit later tonight. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...
