I was at work and they sent me to go get a battery from the other PepBoys. got sideswiped by a small truck, I'm not even really sure what happened it just sounded like the mirror got hit pretty hard so I looked over and it was folded in pretty far so I figured that was all that happened and kept going. I got to where I was going and when I was bringing the battery back to the car I see this...

IPB Image

IPB Image

IPB Image

I know its hard to see cause the car is really really dirty but the mirror is fine and the damage is much worse than I thought it was and now I have no info or anything on the truck.

thing is, I was on the clock when it happened and we aren't supposed to be driving our own car for work related things anyway. I spoke to my manager and he said tomorrow he'd make some calls and take care of me, which I'm hoping means they're paying to repair my car and get me a rental while its being worked on.

no worries just yet. we'll see what they say tomorrow.

yeah, my manager is awesome. I trust he'll do his best to take care of me. I know a body shop thats really good so naturally they have a long wait list but one of the mechanics I work with know a guy there and is going to see if he can bump me up and get it taken care of a little faster.

the more I see it the more upset I get frown.gif I hate seeing the car like that frown.gif

I just want to get it done fast, I'm a little worried about the metal being exposed. true it could have been much worse but it happened in a bad place, they can't just replace that quarter panel (I'd rather they replace things than cut, weld, and/or bondo). trying to look on the bright side, that quarter panel had some scratches that needed to be repainted anyway... I just wasn't expecting to have it taken care of like this

I'll have an update after I talk to my manager and a body shop and everything. as of now, I'm keeping my head up smile.gif

it will be fine baby. from those pics it looks like an easy fix for any body shop, stop worrying smile.gif I've done much worse on other cars and it been fixed no prob.

PepBoys will pay to have it fixed, you were on the clock driving for them with your car (which should never of happen and they know it) and they are 100% liable.

yeah I think we'll keep the Supra at my house, I don't think your gonna be allowed to drive it wink.gif

Am I the only one who would've chased the SH*T out of that driver while on the phone with the police and writing down the liscense plate with all four of my hands?!?! I'm not bashing you, but even if it WAS just the mirror, it could have been scratched a little. Why wouldn't you make the truck driver pay for it? Or maybe it's just because I have a new paintjob and baby my celi. You did mention some scratches on the fender already. I'm just curious, that's all. Please don't take offense to anything I just said. I'm just really confused about why you didn't stop him anyway.

damn steff, that sux.
like D said, its not really that bad, should be an easy fix for any decent body shop.
i'd be more worried about them properly matching and blending the paint than anything else.
hope your boss comes thru for ya!

Jesus H, Stef!!!........I'm glad it wasn't worse though, and that you're OK...

BTW if you need a good body shop I have a few out my way in Jersey that do great work. My car went there a few years back and my dads truck is there now, they're doing really good work. Lemme know.

I got an estimate of $2,562 from the body shop yesterday.

no worries Manny, they quoted me for the right way to do it... so instead of matching and blending they're going to repaint up onto the roof and all the way over to the other quarter panel biggrin.gif
I just called my manager to find out if he spoke to corporate about it yet and of course he didn't. but I made sure he knew I'm not paying anything for this and he said he'd take care of it so I trust him

reason I didn't get out when I thought it was just the mirror that was hit was because my mirror has been hit before, not too bad of course, and I'm not really concerned about it at all.

so yesterday I talked to my manager. he said he called up HR and they told him there wasn't anything they could do, he thought that didn't sound right so he called someone else and left a message and is waiting for them to call him back.

he didn't want it to go too long before I reported it to my insurance just in case I need to go through them so I reported it yesterday and told them to hold off on arranging to have it repaired so I can see if my job will pay for it. at the very least my manager said they'd pay for the deductible and the rental car.

I know my work would have to pay for it if I sued and everything but I really don't want to turn this into a massive legal issue, I just want the car fixed

why don't you just call H&R yourself ? If your manager is giving you the run around just go past him. Why are you protecting him ?

I just called one of the attorneys next door to my work and he told me this is considered an "on the job" injury (the damange to the vehicle). He said it's a pretty easy situation and he since they're giving you such a hard time he would just go ahead with litagation. They had you do something you weren't supposed to do and they are clearly at fault. Call any personal injury attorney and ask yourself. They all would be happy to take this on. Stop letting them jerk you around.

so Dustin e-mailed them complaining and they finally got back to me

I just spoke to the guy from HR and everything is being taken care of. Pep Boys is sending me a check and they already set up a rental car for me. I'm dropping the car off for repairs on Tues biggrin.gif

its actually pretty clean when there wasn't snow on it... it should be, its an 05 with only 28k miles on it

it decided to snow pretty bad the day after I brought the car to the body shop. kinda sucks because the tires on the Neon are terrible, it took me like 20 mins to get down my driveway this morning

I GOT MY CAR BACK TODAY! biggrin.gif

I had them repaint the rear bumper too. it was sunfaded and scratched a little, thats how it's always been, its how I bought the car... so this is the first time I've seen it all shiny and nice

I just have some crappy camera phone pics I took at work, I'll get some good ones later

the rear bumper BEFORE (this is the best pic I could find of it, I tried not to take too many pics from the rear because of it. plus it was right on the ledge so it didn't really show in pictures too much)

I'm glad you finally got it back. smile.gif My rear bumper just started doing that exact
same thing in the same spot. I have a spot like that about 2"x 2".
Must be all that invisable oil thats going out the exhaust.
Was it only on the passenger side?

I'm very very happy to have it back!

Randy, you're lucky you only have a 2" spot! the fading on mine wasn't only on the passenger side, it was all the way across the bumper on that ledge (I just don't have a good picture of it). it was like that when I bought the car and I've tried everything (scratch remover, buffing, paint cleaner, you name it) with no luck... but repainting worked pretty well biggrin.gif

I did get it back with a new problem though

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.
