Folks look what I have found after lifting my car:
![]() main leak point was place where is transition connected to half shaft (some joint or something): ![]() for better orientation once again with comments: ![]() here another picture from different angle: ![]() what do you think it should be? I have some theories: - bad balance gear (differential gearing) or it's bearing - bad axle joint... it self or some part like some seal or ring cup... I don't know - bad half shaft (half axle) what do you thing? anyone seen this before? Wanna more pics? thanks for any advice... p.s.: sorry for multiple names of parts, I'm not sure which one is right (or better) for that... ![]() edit: also may help if you tell me which part should be bad (just in case I will not know what is that or how it is called ![]() RH drive shaft EPC pic: ![]() front axle holding EPC pic: ![]() This post has been edited by malpaso: Apr 16, 2007 - 6:53 AM -------------------- No more replicas... seems like the snap ring inside the axel is missing.
That axel (or joint) should be locked into the transmission and should not beable to move in and out at all. you might as well replace the seal while your in there. If that doesn't fix it, it might be something wrong inside the transmission. |

Might be that locking ring on the end of the axle is missing, and once the axle is loose - oil will leak like crazy. Once you take your axle out - be sure to check the seal in the tranny, and replace it. -------------------- Ex celica owner - just a guy from other side of the pond...

take a hole saw and grind down ther teeth and use that to press the rubber seal into place..works like magic when i did it. took me awhile to come up with a cheap solution.

The passenger side axle doesn't have a snap ring on the FWD. The axle is held in place by the carrier bearing that is bolted to the bracket on the block.
Anytime the axle is pulled away from the seal it will leak. The carrier bearing should not allow the axle to move out of the transmision. If it's leaking while the axle is in place you should replace the axle seal... It's labeled 23247B in your EPC screenshot. You showed pictures of the passenger side axle and said it was leaking from that side, yet you say a snap ring fixed the leak which the passenger side axle shouldn't have/need... Did it end up being the driver's side that was leaking?

My car is leaking on the driver's side, so Just to make sure:
I have the seal already, waiting to be installed. About the snap ring, I was kinda confused about which side had it. Is the ring from inside the seal? Do I want to go ahead and get a snap ring from toyota? Or just hope it isn't broken. stupid transmission. ![]() |
