Since I have found how expensive original genuine TOM's lip is I have started with searching some possibility how to reproduce it. Yes I'm talking about fiberglass or kevlar copy of this lip. So my question is:

If I had genuine lip and created form in one local company how many people would want fiberglass or kevlar replica of that lip?

I do not have any numbers so far (price, shipping costs, nothing)... just idea and would like to know interest of you guys here. According that I may start searching for all information and numbers...

doggy's car http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=52876&st=0
and i'm personally more interested in the genuine lip cuz i'd be afraid of the replica scraping and cracking. but if the price is right, i may just change my mind.

Exactly mate... plus shipping for really big box frown.gif. However this is not something like business plan. It's just idea if:

- would be original piece bought
- would be form created
- would be made some amount of replicas
- would be those replicas sold

and finally how much it would lower whole costs of that original piece to reasonable level... That means make some small profit making copies to have cheaper original piece at the end. That's purpose of this topic.

okay, i've mentioned this before, but i'm going to cover it again.

Cloning our bumpers is something that i dont even dare to do. There is just way to much activity going on.

Next, The price of fabbing them (even in bulk) is going to still rival companys selling them for what we feel is so expensive.

supplies alone is going to run like 50-70 bucks, (quality supplies; atleast) it can be done cheaper, but they'll last like they were done much cheaper rolleyes.gif

Then you gotta think about shipping, Boxes, stuffing, How are you going to keep it safe in transit? Foam-Peanuts? newspaper? Plus those big @ss boxes.

Then the freight charge to ship it.

This will rack up 200-300 really quick. Now for personal and local persons, It'd be a blessing. Truly would.

Just also remember how much work is going to be involved in this. One bumper could easily take 2 days if you dont have a systematic plan in place. And if you dont do a good job, There will be no end to the flaming that'll take place. kindasad.gif

I've been working with FG for years, and i wouldn't dare mess with em. Not till i have way more time on my hands. wink.gif

But if ya wanna, then good luck, and more power to ya. Have fun biggrin.gif

they are talking about making a lip NOT a bumper...and celica bumpers aren't very difficult to make a mold + new one

having one of these lips replicated you are going to find it more feasible and affordable to send one to VISracing convincing them to make them + run a group buy to insure they have sales.
which if you read the OP post you'd know he was doing the same thing in except with a different company "one local company "

so you don't have to worry about shipping cause the company would do that, you don't have to worry about supply cost cause companies already have that....read the thread first...

as for the OP, just look into fiberglass is less expensive and does ok (all celica lips are fiberglass anyways) Kevlar would unnecessarily raise costs.
That and you are overseas making the idea more expensive, to most your audience. Though honestly that lip is fairly easy to replicate.

I think there's some interest, but most people would like to see some numbers(prices, time frames,ext..) before committing to one. I'm one of these people, interested, but would like a little more info before I can say a definate.

From personal experience Malpaso.. I wouldn't do it if you wrap a lot of your money up into it.. I've done this a few times on here with different things... And people ALLLLLLLLWAYS flake out once you give them the final price and have the item on its way... And it being too late to cancel... But I would def. take one if given a realistic up front price that fits into my budget

Thats what i'm talking about! Read my post.

Okay, why do you think that even E-bay has to sell these things at such a price? VISracing can do it, but it's going to cost them money. The same money it cost any and every other company. VISracing still has to make a profit. VISracing is going to have to produce theese things. VISracing has to buy material, pay employees, pay for castings and molds to be made to even start production. Then they have to package it, they have to pay for boxes, stuffing, shipping carges, ups driver pick-up services, ect. Now after all the money has been spent, how are they going to make it back? i assure you they wont do it out of the kindness of their hearts. nope, they'll take it out on your invoice when you go to buy one. plus they have to end up with more money then they started with. The employees need their medical, the boss needs a new car, the owner needs a vacation to the Bahamas, (ect)

BAM!! back up to $300+

I'm not saying it's going to be done in Malpaso's basement, Although that would be the only real way to cut down cost dramatically. the cost of labor and production is just too great.

Definitely dead... and it's because of exchange rate of CZK -> USD. That means if I pay for work of local company 6200CZK it's 442USD now... and just few months ago was 270USD. Yes you understand right. Few months ago it was "cheaper" because of strong dollar and weak Czech crown... now that exchange rate is history. The same this project. I do not believe anyone would accept 442USD plus shipping.

Here we go, Just got it earlier today.

Not yet really fit on yet, would wait for next week once paint my car.

The quality is pretty good thou, but I don't like the smell of Fibre Glass, make me sick.

Cost me approx USD$170 for pick up, 1 week ordering time, the limitation of length of a air parcel for most of the countries are 1.5 meter, this thing exceed that, so have to cut in half, then need some magician or some expert to do a surgery to reinstate it

exactly Vince smile.gif I just can not believe you can cut the price that low! I would never be able to produce it that cheap... It's just impossible here... and about that shipping. It's true again. That's why for some countries shipping would be killer (because only chance is Fedex or DHL) or you must cut it... that one and half of meter is annoying frown.gif

yea i got that...but what im saying instead of having to get them cut, just have them made into splitters. instead of making the entire front lip, start to round off and go down teh bottom of the bumper where they air holes are located. have the middle cut out, and there ya go, you have toms magic splitters. i think it would look really awesome myself.

hmm..that might look pretty good..the main appeal of the Toms Lip is the sides anyway imo..so splitters would be pretty cool. If it's possible, I'd take some.

Putting it back into 1 piece isn't too bad if you are good with fiberglass, it would probably take a good day or two of work to have it back perfect.
for $170 + ~$30 in materials to fix what "damage" happens eh its not too bad

30 bucks in materials??? try $160 on discount tongue.gif:P

well, only because i bought the most expensive materials hoping for better results wink.gif

my plan of attack??

Behind the cut
1. epoxy metal strip onto back for reinforcement
2. cover with fiberglass tape in layers with resin
3. dynaglass it

Visible side
1. sand leaked over epoxy
2. dynaglass and sand
3. glazing putty and sand

then paint.

Im curious as to how that sounds plyr???
