Well, i know red coolant is the prefered one. how do we mix it though?
I can of salt, 2 lumps of garlic? ![]() I have no clue. Its supposed to be a 60/40 mix. Thats what they told me. Is this true. Anyways, also about the KOYO oem radiator, it has two little lines on the bottom that i assume are for the automatic, not for the manual, so, they are plugged with two little rubber caps. Would that hold the pressure, should i use something else? HELP! ![]() This post has been edited by njccmd2002: May 24, 2008 - 1:50 PM -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... The Super Long Life Coolant is prediluted to 50/50 if I'm not mistaken. The regular Toyota Long Life coolant isn't but I think 50/50 is still the standard. 60/40 is just fine though, a little unnecessary while going into the warmer seasons but still just fine.
yes, those caps on the radiator are for the auto trans cooler and the caps on them will be just fine. There is no pressure on those caps, its a separate tank on the bottom that connects to the auto trans which runs ATF through the separate tank using the bottom of the radiator as a heat exchanger essentially. you want to run as little coolant as possible to get the job done. This time of year I would use at the most 50/50....60% coolant is too much.
30% would probably be sufficient |

the dealer always recommended the red colant, but i can buy the premixed right/ It comes 50/50. At least what i have right now is not red
![]() ill buy the premixed solution..... 7.2 lts.... so that separate tank is just extra weight? go figure... -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOL

I have a question: it is true that if the red and green coolant mix it causes some kind of reaction leading to clogged system? I did a cooling system flush last night but could not get it completely clear of the green stuff. Just wondering.
Thanks. -------------------- 3sgteing.

not good to mix regular green with other types, it can do some nasty stuff. makes a brownish 'baby-****' sludgey stuff which isnt hard to flush out, just a real annoyance. just keep checking your radiator cap and coolant tank. if you see the **** then its come time to flush the system with a hose. best to drain the block and rad when changing coolant.

Toyota manufactures two different mixture coolants. Pre-diluted 50/50 pink (which is what I use in the Celica) or un-diluted red coolant which is cheaper.....but you have to dilute it to the same mixture as the pre-mixed stuff, which is 50/50. Both are pretty expensive in comparison to standard green coolant, but my 3SGTE used nothing but red previously so I kept it that way.
I use 50/50 Toyota coolant because my tap water at my house has hard water, and that doesnt do well in an engine at high temps. Distilled water added to the red coolant at 50/50 would do just fine, but I'm too lazy for that. ![]() Typically the red Toyota coolant mixes just fine with the green, it just looks a little wild when you pop the radiator cap and see multiple colors....I believe it even says on the back of the Toyota coolant bottle that its fine to mix with other brands of coolant like Prestone and so on. If you're really picky you can drain the block to ensure that you're running straight Toyota coolant, but it really doesn't matter too much....it uses the same ethylene glycol base as other stuff. -Corey -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

Thanks everyone. I was concerned because I just couldn't get the flushes completely clear of the green color.

Both the pink and the red are both pre mixed coolants...just pour and go...no water or anything needed. If however you are friendly with your local Toyota dealership they do produce an undiluted red coolant which is ment for use by the toyota mechanics only.....they might sell you some of that if you ask nicely. |

Lots of different info going on here.
I tested the standard red stuff, and its NOT premixed. If your not sure, you can buy a little tester for about 1$ that will tell you what kind of mixture you have. I always do 50/50 with distilled water. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Yea the Toyota Red thats available in the states is definately NOT diluted.
I carefully read both labels on the Red and the 50/50 Pink before buying....I wanted to know what I was getting for my 60 dollars. ![]() -Corey -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

those clamps WILL leak now that they've been off. theyre meant to go on and be taken off, then new clamps used. -------------------- |
