Hello!

I have a 1996 Celica with the 7A-FE engine, and want to turbo it. But, on the Norwegian forums (where I come from) they forbid me to do this modification because the engine may be too weak, some parts may be wrecked and the costs will be high for reparation.

So what are you guys saying? Are there some modifications I have to do with the engine to strengthen it? New rods, valves, seals etc?

I am not thinking of a extreme turbo boost in my engine, just a little one for fun and for some more hp!

Any answer will be appreciated! biggrin.gif

Ah.. I'll see that the downpipe is a rare thing. I must get this custom built my self? Bah..

I am currently looking up a list of items that I need for the conversion. Do you guys have some tips here?

By the way, wastegate is important right? What is best? Internal, or external? (Which is a bit more tricky according to the manifold and to the rest of the exhaust)

i would recommend an internal. im boosting my 7a right now, got everything except my down pipe intercooler piping. but id def recommend an internal for us because there isnt much room to mount the external

Ah okay! Do you have a parts list, and where you get it from?

Which manifold will fit the 7A-FE engine? I searched the Ebay without luck, but I think i dont got the correct search words..

hey dude.

you need search '7afte' to get results.

anyway, i might be able to help.

you have 2 options.

1. Use a tubular manifold for a Honda B Series engine with your shosen turbo flange. You also need to get an exhaust manifold flange from JSG Tools. Now when you get both parts, not forgetting a gasket, you need to saw off the B series flange and weld the 7a flange in place. Strenthen the welds after that. Downside to this is that you might lose a fan, though having said that someone put a fan in front of the rad and changed the polarity.

2. Get a DIY manifold and flange kit from JSG Tools and weld it up yourself. Choose the turbo flange of your choice. That's what I did. I have a T25 but when this dies I will go for a T28 like I should have done in the first place.

We just installed my 7AFTE setup this past weekend, my Turbo project thread is just a few topics down.
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=52444
You should take a look at it, there's a full parts list on page 10 and pictures of the install and finished product on page 11.

My only advise is to know what you are getting into when trying to build a fast reliable turbo setup on a 7A, it's not cheap and if you go the cheap route chances are it won't last or won't impress you and you'll end up ditching it.
