I've started desoldering the LEDs from the Heater Control PCB.
I have now received my new LEDs. However, they have a + and - wire. The longer of the 2 wires being positive. Problem is...I'm trying to work out the polarity on the PCB. That is, the positive and negative circuits. ![]() ![]() ![]() I also have the same question relating to the window switch. ![]() Can anyone help please? |

You need to look at the side of the PCB with the silkscreen on. LEDs have a symbol like this:
![]() The triangle points to a vertical bar: >| The vertical bar is the negative side of the LED. Sometimes the two arrows pointing away from the |< are omitted (strictly speaking the latter is the symbol for a diode but sometimes used for LEDs also). Cheers mate.
QUOTE The triangle points to a vertical bar: >| ...symbol for a diode That's what through me on the window switch. OK for the window switch now. ![]() But for the PCB... QUOTE You need to look at the side of the PCB with the silkscreen on....look for symbol... I assume the silkscreen is the green side with the track on. Problem is, I don't seem to be able to see that symbol anywhere. ![]() Can you tell I haven't done this before ![]() |

Hi 3TST
OK I finished my AC Unit last night and I have some photos that may help. 1st thing is to get a Multi Meter with the diode tested "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multimeter" Get something like this "http://www.screwfix.com/prods/14469/Electrical/Electricians-Tools/Circuit-Testers/Autoranging-Digital-Multimeter?cm_mmc=GoogleBase-_-Datafeed-_-Electrical-_-Autoranging%20Digital%20Multimeter" only 10 Pound! This tool is your best friend when you work with electricity. In your last Photo (above) it shows the ->|- (diode) symbol so flop your AC board over from the way you have it in the 1st Photo. Sorry if this sounds a bit Preachy but it should help you. Have a look at "http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=63338" (My Thread) and scroll to the end for a look at how I have done my Car (and AC Unit) WWSideWinder -------------------- WWSideWinder - 1996 - 3S-FE - Auckland New Zealand

I assume the silkscreen is the green side with the track on. Silkscreen is the (usually white) writing. Silkscreen actually describes the process of printing the writing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silkscreen -------------------- Davey

you could power the board and with a DMM and check for the polarity that way only for a low voltage board or with extreme caution (ex your dryer).
FYI the green lines cover an insulate the "traces" which are the copper lines on the board ![]() This post has been edited by brk34: Nov 12, 2008 - 7:34 PM |
