Just out of curiosity. Has anyone in the US or in Europe installed or fabricated a Diffuser for their Gen6?
We've fitted a universal Diffuser to our GT-Four however looking at re-designing a Celica specific due to its low tank. |

I've been thinking about doing this, but have yet to actually fabricate one since my car is not at that stage yet. I'd be very interested to see what you come up with.

well we've fabricated a universalone which is very effective to improve air flow. However the GT four has a low down tank and is not in line with the bumper so brackets to maintain a 11 degree slope is necessary for maximum air flow efficiency.
![]() ![]() ![]() On a normal non GT four Celica it should fit flush because it downt have a low tank and should look a little bit like this: ![]() We've sold many to Silvia owners already as it's a univeral diffuser. This post has been edited by yellowchinaman: Aug 28, 2009 - 9:17 AM |

the aerodinamics of a car are important over and under the car, a smooth flat surface would be the best thing for the underbody, that way the air travels underneath without turbulance or drag, thus improving handling, and overall driving. a difuser helps to get the air to come out easier from the underbody,, most facorty rear bumpers at as a parachute, trapping air.

What a underbody panel does with an inclusive rear diffuser is simple physics.
smoother and less turbulence means the air moves faster under the car than the air over the car. This creates a LOW pressure zone under the vehicle and a High pressure zone (slower moving air) above the vehicle. These pressure zones give down force to the car. The more down force you have the better you perform. |

OH MY GOD! You guys are amazing. Everyones logic is dead on and I couldnt explain it any better.
We've has many cocks going on about down force from the diffuser alone and bragging their knowledge of rocket science trying to put us down acting like they know it all. Truth is this alone doesnt do that much. The car we're building just had coil overs on and now lowered. We're making a front splitter and skirts and under tray to complete the set. However this does greatly improve the air flow from the GT4 because there is alot of drag under the rear bumper of the GT4. This post has been edited by yellowchinaman: Aug 28, 2009 - 3:28 PM |

Diffusers are very effective to the aerodynamics of the car, the air need to flow under car as much over car, high wing helps to keep the car in the ground, diffuser makes help to to improve response.
if can have one of those I definitely have it on my car, the only difference will be that I'll try to make it wide as the back of the car -------------------- 1994 ST Celica --> no swap --> 7A rebuild

Find a way to utilize OEM bolt locations and you'll have a winner. I'm not too interested if it involves riveting it through the car.

if can have one of those I definitely have it on my car, the only difference will be that I'll try to make it wide as the back of the car Basically we for te GT4 it needs to cover from the tank to the bumper. If we made a wide one from the tank to the bumper, the rear arms get in the way. 1 Way to obercome this is by having jsut the middle from tank to bumper and the ends extended abit likea T shape. However in doing so you end up making a massive scoop on the ends where trapped wind becomes a drag eleminating the entire idea. Find a way to utilize OEM bolt locations and you'll have a winner. I'm not too interested if it involves riveting it through the car. As the GT4 was a rally car it never intended to have a diffuser and undercar airdynamics wasnt really something they considered too well. The two end brackets are bolted to the OEM under bumper bolts and only the tank under guard needs drilling to mount the front part of the diffuser. No big deal and it doesnt cause any strain to what its attached to. ![]() im looking at it as extra added weight.. ![]() Made of 2x2 twill carbon fibre. Weighs less then 5KG. if anyone decided to mass produce ill be in a group buy for sure. (front or rear) Not that I'm trying to put in the sales but we're already mass producing them and selling it in other forums and on our website. Back to the origional post. Has anyone every tried making one apart from us because I'd like to compare findings and see if we can a make GT4 specific one. |

I went up to 130mph and there is alow less sway how ever we did just change to coil overs too so. For sure there is less noise in the rear though. |

I really like the idea, and the one you have looks REALLY clean.
However with that said, I don't take my car above 110 (or really, above 85 most of the time). Even the stock GT engine will only get you up to 120. I would understand a little bit more if we were achieving speeds of 150+, but I don't think our cars have enough power to really use this to their advantage. However, it does look really sweet. I'm glad someone did it, I just wouldn't find it as practical as it should be (for me at least). -TC -------------------- Live your life for yourself. Don't hold back for anything or anyone.

I'm glad someone did it, I just wouldn't find it as practical as it should be (for me at least). -TC Actually you dont have to go high speeds to benefit a diffuser. At average speeds of around 30-40mph when I fallowed this car in the rain, one obvious thing we noticed was the way the air reacted in the air. The rain water was being lifted and blown out the back smoothly like line of haze. (Difficult to explain) where as before whendriving in the rain, when lookingin the rear view mirrir, you just see massive sworls of rain being flicked up. This has improved the airodynamics of the bottom rear of the car reducing alot of drag. This means is should help improve your MPG as we've noticed last weekend during motorway driving. If you look at new cars like the toyota prius, they too have a simple diffuser in the rear to do the same job to improve fuel efficiency. And if you have a low down car with fron splitters, and side skirts, you dont need to go fast to get the Venturi Effect which creates the down force. http://refraction.co.uk/blog/2009/05/03/so...-for-an-f1-car/ ^^ another reason (appart from the tank issue why he is talking gtfour specific^^ No particular reason. TBH we're quite happy with this universal one. It's proven to be effective on track with other cars already and it does the job. however it's not the most visually appealing and I'm curious if anyone else has tackled this challenge for the GT4. The GT4 isnt the only car which has the same like a highbumper and low tank. The RX7's also use brackets to mount it's diffusers and it works better as a under car spoiler with the gap. If this diffuser is fitted to a non GT4 6G, it'll sit flush to the bumper and looks alot better then the GT4. |

Let me know what the MPG change is, if it's significant (even 1mpg) I'd definitely be interested. -TC -------------------- Live your life for yourself. Don't hold back for anything or anyone.

with the c-one aluminum underpanel and a rear diffuser on a lowered celica it should be effective. right??

Yes the undertray will help. Also skirts and front lip will help narrow down the air flow allowing air to pass under the car faster will induce the venturi effect creating down force.
We're currently working on a mid secton tray which will complete the flat under belly of the car. |

hey guys since your talking about air defusers for the celica ive got a bit of a problem ive been working on a supra rear end conversion but ive notice the particular way ive set up mine its basicaly just trapping all the air inside of the rear end acting like a parachute enough ive noticed the difference does anyone have any ideas i was thinking about fabricating an under body panel or putting a type of vent to get rid of the trapped air but its not quite the same what are you guys thoughts sorry kinda off subject but its kinda related though

there is 2 ways round that. either close or seal the inlet wher its scooping the air or open the back to let the air out.
I'd say cut a vent and put a mesh there. Closing the inlet would mean fabricating something complicated. Many aftermarket rear bumpers with a so called diffuser look under it does more bad then good becuase they act more like a scoop or like you discribed it as a parachute. I would only make 1, 2 at most, so you could have one of them to make a mold and make them in CF I have drawings and calculations, but since is cold and getting colder, It'd take me some time ( maybe beginging of next year ? ) to finish it, working VERY slowly on this. -------------------- ![]() |

wow your celica only get you to 120 mine as with an air filter and exhaust was pushing out just over 156mph on the motorway when i first bought it to see what it could get up to. if your's only reaches 120 then you either have a problem or you didn't put your foot down hard enough lol Nope, I think he's fine. I don't think a factory GT can reach much over 120. Any California legal one has a limiter around 126. Honestly, it's a 2.2 I4 with only 135hp to the crank stock, why bother breaking 120? If I want to go fast, I take my bike out for a spin. 186 will scare the **** out of you when you don't have a cockpit surrounding you... -TC uk spec is obviously better then just starting to mess around with a set of r1 throttle bodies for it now |

any news on the gtfour specific rear diffusers? Still cold but I'll be building ONE of these, if yellowchinaman and I agree to a deal I'll be making a second one for him that he could use as a template, but we are looking at maybe 2-3 months down the road -------------------- ![]() |

well we've fabricated a universalone which is very effective to improve air flow. However the GT four has a low down tank and is not in line with the bumper so brackets to maintain a 11 degree slope is necessary for maximum air flow efficiency. ![]() ![]() ![]() On a normal non GT four Celica it should fit flush because it downt have a low tank and should look a little bit like this: ![]() We've sold many to Silvia owners already as it's a univeral diffuser. i couple of quick questions.... how wide is this one? how expensive is it? where can i get one of these? thanks....... -------------------- You're here for a good time, not a long time. - Colin McRae When in doubt... aha i get how it works now.
the gt4 tank is alot further back than the ST204 Thats why my only option was to bolt it to the rear subframe. And also why i was able to mount it flush with the bumper Im not sure if thats what it was intended for but it works perfectly ![]() ![]() ![]() -------------------- ![]() 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

Damn Tiga! Money shot pose for a USDM. Now you need a new rear profile signature.
I can see that you raised the difusser up more than what it would with a GT4 fuel tank. Would it impact any air flow directing it upward towards the rear bumper though? This post has been edited by ZGear: Mar 10, 2010 - 10:43 AM -------------------- ![]() |

lol thats not the point...if hes selling something i shouldnt have to research how much its going to cost me....
they are def. a nice piece, but a fitted kit rather than being universal would be awesome -------------------- ![]() I"M NOT A TOYOTA FAN, IM A FANATIC 1984 accord hatch 5 speed (T-Belt)-Junkyard 1991 VDUB jetta wolfsburg Ed. 5 speed (clutch)-junkyard 1988 Dodge Aries K (sold) 1969 Chevy El camino - Traded for celica 1991 Dodge Daytona-Traded for Celica 1988 Chevy Camaro-Work in Progress 1989 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 - For Sale 1995 Toyota Celica-Work in Progress |

Regarding fitting, take a look at Tigerwoods build thread. It's very easy to fit onto a 6G. You can ask him. REgarding the exchange rate: I am a UK retailer and fabricator and this is an international website. I will always ask to be paid in GBP £ as it doesnt make sense for me to ask for USD and than having to change it to GBP and probably have a loss if the exchange is against me. At the end of the day if I'm selling something for £100. I expect to be paid £100. Not £67.53p if the exhchange turns bad. Thats not how people do do business otherwise I could be at risk selling at a loss to certain countries. If I was to buy from Japan I would expect to pay a Yen. So does every one else. For those who dont know how to work out the price in your own currency, please go to www.xe.com for a rough stimate. This post has been edited by yellowchinaman: Mar 10, 2010 - 5:43 PM |
