talked to tweak he said that a 5sfe block might work, but i gotta take the motor out and see for sure what happened... i belive the rod went thru the oil pan frown.gif

i was so disgusted i didnt want to tell details as to what happened but i just spilled my guts on mr2oc so its only fair to let my 6gc brothers in on it (*sigh* lagos is going to see this... im embarrassed rolleyes.gif he knows why)

ok i'll start from the beginning:

first of all i got the swap done ORIGNIALLY by dr tweak (phoenix tuning) he did the job RIGHT. unfortunately i got into a head on accident and messed up the hatch that the 4th gen was orignially in. i found a replacement celica (94coupe ninja turtle#2) and was referred by tweak to Southern car customs to get it done again (since he was unavailable) SCC half assed me for months, requring me to go back and forth from charlotte to savannah several times(bad exhaust manifiold setup ) and the car hasnt been right since. they didnt street tune just a base tune to get me around.

fast forward to more recent: I had been noticing that i would go into boost cut (fuel cut) when the car was at a certain point in boost and rpm range it threw some engine codes including knock sensor, 02 sensor and a couple others. when i would try to go into boost later i noticed my guage would read boost, but i would get sluggish response i assumed bad cat, and maybe stuck wastegate (tial 38mm) i fixed the problems with the codes but the car woudl still not boost properly (still sluggish not sure why still) first i decide to fix the cat (since i was sure it was clogged) in doing this welding is required, and i dont know how to so i had a reputable local shop do it. I let the guy drive the car on the way back to the shop and he hit boost and the check engine light came on again after boost cut (didnt surprise me) i again noticed the guage was reading WAAY over a boost level i was comfortable with so i say to him chill for a bit. we get on the highway to return to the shop and he got on it again, and by the time i told him to get off the gas (boost gauge reading 20psi) i hear a pop, car shuts off and i smell coolant and see oil leaking from under the car. it seems that the rod went thru the oil pan but im going investigate fully on thursday (take motor out and diagnose where i should go from there) is that bad luck or what lol, like my friend that owns the shop says: damn matt u cant have nothin nice! lol

but hopefully i can find a decent block at a good price and get the workin again and put in my OWN elbow grease (thanks lagos) getting it back in with some help from dr tweak who's been helping me since he did the swap in oct 06. he has pics of "ninja turtle #1 and the damage on his site www.phoenixtuning.com under completed swaps its the green and black celica.

Sucks that your car got blow'd up frown.gif

I thought I had bad luck with Celicas and deer. Sounds like you've got much, much worse luck. I hope to see Ninja Turtle Deuce back on the road again soon!

i still have the head, so what im planning on doing is getting hold of a 3rd gen block or if i can another 4th gen block, and putting it back together, then im going to take a crap on my emanage blue and save for an AEM. so many directions to go, after i get the block, i just dont know what to do withmyself! kindasad.gif

Save for an AEM EMS and get rid of that eManage. Mine never gave me problems but the owner of the dyno I go to despises them with all his heart. laugh.gif What are your power goals?

if you're going to go AEM anyways... use a 5s block... the air/fuel ratio would be the only thing stopping you and with the AEM... thats an easy fix... smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif it'll bolt right to that head you got there smile.gif

wait wait wait.... REALLY?!? A 5S BLOCK?!? ive only been given "maybes" in that respect when i asked but its much cheaper than a 3s block... while my power goals are moderate (i'd be happy with 350whp) would the 5s be good for reliablility? and as far as AEM EMS im considering it... BUT 1700 bucks is rediculous! i would think emanage ultimate would be good too.... (although the blue put a bad taste in my mouth) kindasad.gif

its really not redic for what you get... the AEM ems is a great unit... it controls everything including boost, NOS, knock, EVERYTHING... i got mine for $1100 with all the sensors... just have to wait for one... but ditch using a piggyback... they're trash (heard AEM's isn't too shabby though)

I think he wants to buy a short bock and bolt it on. with a 5s block, your going to have to rebuild it and lower the compression.
I think hes looking to get something used that he can bolt on and go.

whoops this is true... i always rebuild my blocks before adding them to a car... you would want to throw some lower compression pistons in there

this is true lagos! will have the $$ for a block w/ pistons crank etc at the end of the month, next gotta figure what to do after that... engine mgt... etc.

may get the block from MR2 guru on mr2oc.com, hes like 1.5 hrs or so from me. he told me to take the emanage blue and smash it against the wall lol.

lagos, i remember you posting a while back (circa 06?) about engine management, and said that AEM was the best way to go or hydra nemesis. what do you think of emanage ultimate?

Stay away from piggybacks. That's why people here in the forums don't make good power. They're too cheap to shell out a couple grand on an EMS and all the essential stuff. Or lazy. Sure, it's expensive. We aren't rich, but we sure could save the money if we held back on other things. smile.gif It hurts a lot in the pocket, but you'll save money in the long run. After using the eManage on my Celica and seeing how it works, I'm NEVER using a piggyback ever again. It's just not reliable. You'll always have that paranoia that the engine is not running as good as it should.

I've been getting involved in the world of standalones for a while now and it's just something else. Every engine I see around here that's getting controlled by a standalone EMS runs beautifully, reliably and hell...even fuel efficient when off boost. The engines just go. I never hear the owners complaining about timing, or bogging, or erratic idle. tongue.gif The problems we suffer with our setups don't exist in their world, and most of these are turbocharged economy NA engines, not bad boys like our 3S-GTEs.

Do it right this time. Get an AEM. Or even a Hydra Nemesis. The Subaru guys run them here with great results. I'll be running a "crappy" Microtech, which is as raw as you can tune an engine. It's not a refined EMS by any means. It's one of the cheapest standalones, and it is a staple in PR. Yet, check the Microtech page. Most, if not, all cars you'll see there are from this island, running 7s and 8s. That tells you something, right? You do what you want to the engine with an EMS. Hell, if there wasn't only ONE guy in this whole island that worked on Wolf 3D, I'd get one. What a fantastic EMS. But tuners here just like to tune Microtechs, Haltechs and the new ones. I was surprised my tuner worked on my eManage blue. He's never worked on one. I know tuning is tuning but when you know the interface of an EMS from memory and then work on a new one, it's shocking for you.

This is strictly my opinion, guys. I don't need someone to start arguing and what not. You don't like what you read, move on. Don't bother with me. smile.gif

UPDATE: lookie lookie.... what do we have here?!?

crack on timing belt cover but it's ok, got an extra wink.gif

Took the coils off to inspect the plug holes (and see if the piston heads are as clean as my last 4th gens) but had to go to work, no time to take the spark plugs out.

will take more pics tomorrow.

I did want to say this though: I got this motor from JDM engine depot in kearny nj, and it was a steal, im very happy with how clean and prepped the engine came, and the way the company handled the whole process!

now imma put some o my own elbow grease in this one...stay tuned! (BTW: I may have some parts for sale i no longer need like my old T3/4 turbo and manifold/adapter) Gonna keep it stock for a bit, then see how much i can get out of this setup instead.

lol yeah they were basically giving it away i HAD to jump on it. the way i figure... why spend 600 on a block (3rd gen) and spend 2k on a standalone when i can get a complete 4th gen for $999+shipping, and sell my old turbo to get water meth and reach the same power goals i wanted with the turbo upgrade (330-340whp)

i plan to keep it stock turbo, upgrade downpipe, keep my FPR on there, and current electronics. later on down the line get hold of an AEM water/meth. gotta buy new axles first and hoses etc. i was thinking about just putting my Tial W/G on, but this one from what i understand should be fine for now

from what i understand yes! but that may be because the rarity now? idk. from what doc posted on another thread, 4th gens seem to be coming in more and more, and that became obvious to me when this company (jdm engine depot) has sold 3 of them sub 1200 dollar range.

It seems to me that the caldinas are now approaching the japanese mileage restricitons and the motors are becoming more common. they told me this one has about 50-60k on it (which is about where the other one was iirc) but then again that could be inaccurate?

Piro it totally sucks that toyota doesn't have an option like nistune. I got all the stuff for my 240 for $350, no way I could do that for my celica, and it is 100% aftermarket management with the old ecu and harness. I'll try to bring it by maybe sometime.
