I've always wanted to make a progression thread, just can never find the time to, and the more i modify my Celica, the more I wish I had one. So I decided before it gets too late or I lose all my pictures, I will post one now, right before I swap my motor. A little background info, my name is Matt, I'm 21 and my 1995 Celica GT was my first car. I've always been into cars and modified cars so as soon as I got it, there were lots of things I had planned for it. However, still being a kid had no money to fund any big projects, until I got a job...Here are some pictures of my cars evolution to the point where its as now. Enjoy smile.gif I will try and keep this as updated as I can from now on.

Here's where I started...

Just a stock black celi...

Wanted to do things, but had no money, so I painted my stock GT wheels red.

First performance mod was a v2 TRD Quick Shift Kit, was VERY happy with it, bought some GT4 spoiler blocks, while in the paint process, tried spoilerless, not my thing.

Painted my blocks myself, put em on.

If you ever are wondering USDM tail light or JDM taillight? JDM ALL THE WAY!

My winter set of wheels are those stock GT ones.
Basically, I fell in love with OEM JDM from there on, and the real transformation started. I fell in love with GT4's, learned A LOT about them, and ended up purchasing a project car (ST-165) so funds halted on the 6gc frown.gif

Winter time came and my birthday is 4 days after xmas so I got a decent chunk of cash and help getting this.

As you can see, it needed A LOT of work, but I was 100% committed to doing all the work on it myself and getting it on my car. Bought so many parts for it, got really used to seeing this.

While the work was getting done on the 4 front end, got some new wheels.

HID's too.

Front end on! And some OEM '98 skirts!

Spacers!

Like I mentioned earlier, my car is waiting on the arrival of a 3rd gen 3S-GTE motor set from _Jim_. I am extremely excited to start the swap. These are not mounted yet, but here will be what my gauge setup will look like. I also purchased an Apexi AFC NEO to be put where the cigarette lighter currently is.

Thanks for looking. smile.gif

Lovin' it. One question though. How come the ST205 bumper doesn't sit flush with the ST205 hood? Did you mold it that way?

I dont have my hood latch extended right now, and I am using the rubber from the stock bumper, so...basically i could put washers under the bolts and not have the gap, but then I would not be able to open my hood. Its on my to do list but it works this way until I can weld an extra inch on the hood latch and I don't mind the look.

I used to love the USDM tail and not know if I wanted the JDM, but then I got all into being different and went JDM and when I was switching em, I put one in and got so excited I had to take a picture to show to everyone who wanted to know which ones looked better, which ones in fact looked better. Glad it helped out smile.gif

Here's the painted calipers. Quick morning cell phone shots but you get the idea.

Also bought another piece for my turbo setup last night. The list keeps growing. smile.gif

LOL, this is all anyone cares about my car kindasad.gif ... Yeah, without the gap there is no way I could pop my hood, and considering I pop my hood basically daily, the gap is quite functional until i get my hood latch extended.

Thanks dude!!! ...yeah I know, I got the hood in pretty beat up condition and did all the work on it myself and when I painted my bumper I wanted to paint my hood at the same time since it wasn't my garage so it got hurried through prep and painted and I missed a couple spots. However the cars getting repainted within the next year or so, so the dent will no longer be there then...

Anyone else got some more flaws they'd like to point out about my car??

Puget Sound Toyota Owners Festival was yesterday. Had A LOT of fun seeing all the yota's. Also, I may have found someone to trade their clean Hachi Roku coupe for my alltrac smile.gif so we'll see.

The more I think about the trade, the better it sounds for both parties...He wants something else, something faster, I want something I can do stuff with (drifting) and something aside from AWD turbo which I will have enough of..Also his car is clean, my alltrac is cleanish but not as clean as I wish it were. Here's the AE I'm talkin about

By no means is this for sure or anything, I just talked to his friend, but I will be talking to him as soon as he gets back from vacation in mexico. My stepdad used to have an AE and despite its extreme slowness, it was a lot of fun to drive..one way or another I will prbably have one within a year or so. My plans are just coils, flushness, and 4AGZE. As my alltrac is, it will just be my project project car..since the 6gc is always the #1 project tongue.gif

I would definitely switch out the rims to Watanabes. And dude, an AE86 is my dream car. My dad has had his '85 AE86 since '87 so I've known it all my life. It's so much fun to drive!! Hopefully his gets passed down >:D if not... he's got a spare 4AGE block and head I could I always get creative with.. lol

Yeah, those rims aren't my personal pref. But unlike the celica, the ae86 has some aftermarket support / there are A TON in my area and therefore lots of people open to trading and selling items on craigslist. The AE86 is definetly a great car for what it is and for its time. When I was like 14 my stepdad bought one at auction for $100. We fixed it up and he drove it for a couple years before selling it for like 20 times what he paid...haha. Really fun cars, is your dad's a coupe or hatch? modded? pics?

My dad's is a coupe. I prefer hatchbacks though. Uhh, I don't have any of his car, but I have one of how it looks EXACTLY. Except my dad's rims are the stock ones.

Looking good, your car is still the background on my computer. You planning on Projectors? They would make that top photo look sickk.

Thanks! And yes I really really want projectors to finish off the front end. My super sweet girlfriend told me she would get me some this winter as my birthday is 4 days after Christmas. biggrin.gif

Just updated my interior a bit, still just a couple things to do. I want to put my Apexi AFC NEO where the cigarette lighter is and rewire that to the center console.

Looking good!

Rewiring the cig lighter to the center console is very easy. I did it this past weekend and it works great.

So does the knob fit pretty flush with the ring in the boot?

looks nice dude, but please, please, please fix that bonnet latch soon, its disturbing me how if you leave the bumper part pressed in like that it may end up warping into that shape and will never line up !!!

other than that its stunning

Perfectly flush, and it's the short shifter boot. When I first got my quick shifter, I had my OEM boot and it was actually constricting my shifts, with this boot I can literally tap the knob to put it in gear.

Yeah, I still really want to do that but A.) Dont have any sort of GT4 latch, RHD or LHD and B.) I can't say I don't trust the weld method it just kind of sketches me out and I dont completely see how it would fix the issue, nor do I personally have a welder. And for the warping, I've already played with some washers and lined it up perfectly, only thing is when I line it up perfectly, I can't fit my hand in to pop the latch. And if the warping really got any worst, I've got a nice heat gun that will do the trick.

Thank you though tongue.gif

Sneak peak of an upcoming project. Won't be going on until spring due to the fact it is starting to snow soon up here and the calipers simply won't fit my winter wheels tongue.gif. But I just got them and painted them up, LS400 4 piston calipers and GT4 rotors, hopefully they will go on around the same time as my swap, that would be ideal.

i wanna see the brakes installed!!!

what do u have to do to make it work? does it line up with the celica brakes? do you have to drill out threads or make spacers or what?

or is the problem that the calipers wont clear ur wheel spokes tongue.gif

I don't have pictures of the whole removal process and it's too cold to go outside and do it all right now, but the paint kit that I used for all of the calipers that I've painted is this one:

I like this stuff A LOT more than spray paint personally. You start off by spraying it with the included caliper cleaner, get an old toothbrush or something and really clean it off. Tape off any part you dont want paint on (pistons, bleeder things [for lack of technical term], etc.). Shake/stir paint, and begin aplying to the calipers with the brush. I personally go out and buy another brush when I use this kit as the included brush is awful and the bristles fall out extremely easily and end up trying to dry into your wet paint. Anyways, just put down a layer and it will look REALLY BAD with only one layer, don't stress, just let it dry and add another layer, and repeat until it's your desired thickness and color.

Again, I like this paint because it has ceramic in it and is very resistant to heat, brake dust, fading, chipping, etc. They are really easy to clean with this paint on as well, it coats them very nice. Many people who use spray paint end up having to repaint their calipers every couple years because of the fading, chipping, etc. So far I've never had to repaint my calipers and they still look great up close, imo.

Hope this helps you out man. smile.gif

These are not mounted yet, but here will be what my gauge setup will look like. I also purchased an Apexi AFC NEO to be put where the cigarette lighter currently is.

Hey curious where did you grab that guage holder from? and can you get it to suit RHD Celicas?

Man you don't even know how bad I want to keep it but I've thought about it and this is what I came up with..

I am at this point 100% committed to keeping my 95 for life and converting it to AWD. With that being said I would have essentially two extremely similar cars, just one with more potential (the one with the 3rd gen) and better looks.

I have done some light mods here and there and really do love the car but it needs someone who doesn't have another much more costly and time consuming project going on at the same time, haha. It runs and drives but has literally been chilling in my garage so long it recently filed for a change in color code to: Dust 202, lol. Just doesn't get the attention it deserves because when it comes down to it, I just don't have that much use for it.

Final reason for the sell will have to be the fact I just want a rear wheel drive car... either E30 325is or AE86 GTS Coupe that i can beat on the drift track.

That ST165 you have there is a classic and would make a good home to your 3rd gen swap, however the st205 is the superior car.

Decided instead of buying another car right now I am going to buy an E153 LSD and all of the FWD conversion parts for my 3s swap. smile.gif

Also decided most likely this summer will be dedicated to having every ding and damage cleaned up and get rid of my OEM skirts for some TRD's or 404's and mount my splitters and then paint the whole thing BMW Black pearl. Gotta get the exact paint code / name from my grandpa (His 7 series was this color) but it's a pretty sweet color.

Now for a little question. I'm leaning toward an ACT clutch from what I've read, but want to listen to everyones opinions. What clutches you guys prefer for 3s / E153 combo?

Wanted to start another project with the cash I get from selling my Trac but its almost looking like I could finish this project if I want instead... might just end up doing that.

Got my Twos R' Us endlinks yesterday so I can finally put my ST sway bars on now. Also bought a sandwich plate for my oil pressure gauge.

If anyone could shed some light on the clutch issue above ^^ I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Matt

i struggled with the ST bars....make sure you take off the strut on one side at least..the rear is easier to put on then the front because of space....for the front...do the same...take off BOTH strut or coilover if you have that and then once you place the ST in...the best way to make sure they fit right is to do the one of the two bolts that are not visible on each bushing and tighten it down; then do put the visible bolt on (loosen the non-visible bolt slightly to push and adjust the bracket to the holes)...don't worry about the endlinks, they are the last step after you put the strut or coils back on..

yeah...you don't have too, but it makes the install for the ST much easier...besides struts are easy to be put back. gives a little more room to slide

Just gave her a wash in preparation for my projectors which later came. These are the wheels I run in the winter with Michelin Ice 2's. My spoiler is off because I am putting some new bolts in the blocks, I personally don't like the look, maybe if my splitters were on... oh well it won't be off for long. Last shots without projectors, yay!

Here's the JDM hotness, already installed them biggrin.gif Will snap some pics tomorrow probably.

Not bad at all, I wish my 7gc GTS rims were fitted with my winter tires instead, but they're on my Alltrac atm.
