I was thinking about some modifications of the exterior of my facelifted ST since PECM 2007, which was a great inspiration to me. First I wanted to add a Tom's lip, but it wasn't easy to get one to Czech republic, …an original one. Then I saw the making of Malpaso’s SS-Four and realized that just Tom’s lip would not be enough for me tongue.gif . So I asked Malpaso to help me finding a solution, where I can use the parts I already have and create something unique.

The final idea was presented in this topic for the first time. Just to recall what's going to happen to the car:
- the ST/GT bumper will stay untouched;
- shave the gap in front of the GT-Four hood to fit ST/GT bumper;
- use OEM JDM-dealers option front lip (well known as TOM'S lip);
- use OEM Euro-dealers option rear lip;
- use OEM side skirts;
- and may be change of paint color.

I was wandering how to name this project. Martin used the name GT-II, but I'm afraid that this name was already used by some guy in Croatia? As I don't know this for sure, let's make it Tom's GT-II wink.gif (without the smile of course biggrin.gif)

In the first phase of the project most of the interior parts were dismantled before we went to bodyman. Only the dashboard, steering wheel and front seats were left in the car. Here are some pictures from the projects “first hour”:

In the second phase the hood will be modified to fit the ST/GT front bumper and there is some necessary work on other parts of the car – to prevent rust, repair some dents etc. This will happen within next two weeks. I hope I get some pictures from the bodyman so we don't have to wait two weeks for the progress wink.gif.

nice topic. At last smile.gif. Just would think about the name again... I just used it as first thing that came in my mind smile.gif. Now it is serious. It should be unique enough. Tom's GT-II is not bad at all but it just lead too much to TOM'S edition GT sold as dealers option car in Japan. So... what you think about:

a) Tom's ST-II (because it is ST and this is improved version smile.gif)
b) Tom's Four (toms lip and gt4 hood)

Personally like Tom's ST-II (and if you make any upgrade later - like turbine for example or swap - you may easily say "now it is Tom's ST-III" biggrin.gif) but true is Tom's Four sounds "less complicated"... I do not know.

To Malpaso: Thx for the idea. Tom's Four was also in my mind and I like it very much. But it will never have 3S inside as engine swap would be illegal here (though I think many people in CZ usually don't mind the risk). and it will be FWD forever. But Tom's ST-II has sense - originally it's ST, not GT. So how to rename the topic??? laugh.gif

To mak5603: Can't wait to see the progress too. The next few weeks will be very long for me tongue.gif Thanks!

To Ferdi: You are always right wink.gif . You wrote it in the previous thread. Well thanks for wishing good to the project. I hope everything will go easy way and I promise to add pictures from the progress as soon as I have any new ones.

As Malpaso announced, there is an update in this project. I was told that there was a delay in the paintshop, so my car got first coating on the end of this week. It should be ready for transport to bodyman on Monday. On Wednesday it will be in assembled state, the windows will be glued and on Thursday or Friday I can go for my car. I hope there would be no other delay.

I have a few more pictures from the paintshop (see below), which are from the preparation phase before painting. However, those pictures doesn't show well, how the gap in front of the hood was shaped. I asked the bodyman to send more detailed pictures of the hood, but for any pictures I have to wait until the car is painted. kindasad.gif I hope next week I have more pictures to share.

A crack in a fender was repeired

Nothing done on the trunk yet rolleyes.gif

This is the best picture of the hood I have. It looks clean, but I can't say if it was shaped exactly as I wanted rolleyes.gif

A few rust spots were repaired on the rear-right fender

Rust around the trunk lid was also repaired

This window was not sealed well so the water got inside the car a few times. It caused a few rust spots inside of the car, so I hope it was repaired too. Both windows (left+right) will be changed for newer ones from Malpaso's previous stage of SS-Four tongue.gif

Well, and that's all for now, folks! I hope next time I have better pictures from my newly painted Celica.

I decided to present the color together with the final pictures from the paintshop. I informed my friends from Celica Club Czech Republic about my decision and it would not be fair towards them if I present it here and now. The only thing I can say is, that it is not an original toyota color and though it is not unique, it is pretty rare. I saw someone on 6gc.net who already have this color but from obvious reason I will not say his name wink.gif

Nope;)
In the paintshop they promised to make pictures from all phases of painting. As they told me, the first phase may seem I'm going the silver way again. But appereances are deceptive. wink.gif

Well, well, well.... Yesterday I received new set of photos. Unfortunately it was too late so I was able do download them today. The photos are describing the undercoat and the first phase of painting.

There is nothing special on the undercoat, everyone knows what it is and what it looks like. They used the gray undercoat, because of the color of the first layer.

The first color layer looks like matte silver stain. Who thinks that I'll have silver metallic (199) again is completely wrong wink.gif

I hope I have more pictures soon. There should be other 3 layers. Two color layers and the last one clear coat. So I'm expecting two other sets of pictures.

A new set of pictures from the paintshop arrived today. After the silver color the car received another layer of brick-red one. What to sat to it? I was confused seeing it, but I was told by the bodyman, that we are not finished yet. Another layer will be add soon, and that would be final thin color (+ the last clear coat).

I thought that I will have my car back this weekend, but as there were a lot of other parts to paint, it will take the paintshop more days. I also decided for renewing of tinted windows as I had the rear windows without certificate (and had problems with the last technical inspection kindasad.gif ) and the front ones (driver/passenger windows) are without tinted foil at all.

I understand that the previous set of pictures might cause an impression, that this is going to be the final color of my celi biggrin.gif The truth is, that I was confused in the first moment. And I started checking whether I ordered the color correctly. But I was assured that everything is OK and I'm only paranoid laugh.gif

Now I have some pictures of the last stage of painting, i.e. from the stage where the last thin layer of dark red color and the final clear coat were applied. I'm very excited how it looks. I was told that in garage or when it's dark outside, the color looks mate. But when it's sunny outside, the color is amazing biggrin.gif

The only problem is, that I still don't have it home. There are still a few parts that weren't fitted on the car yet. I also don't know the result of the hood modification, so I'm still a bit nervous from the final result. I may know it in the middle of the next week, as the car should be ready for collection.

But enough of writing, here are all the pictures I received from this last stage of painting. As I wrote before, some parts were not fitted yet, so it's mostly about the color. I hope you like it too wink.gif

On some pictures you may see the orange-gold reflection of sun. How I love it! laugh.gif

What do you think about it so far?
Thx

Thank's richee3, I'm glad that I decided for this color. I was choosing from a dark grey/green metallic, lexus blue metallic, and this mica red from lexus. I was looking for colors of other car makes, but found nothing of my taste.

biggrin.gif Thank's mate.
I'm curious about how the modified hood will look together with the ST bumper. Unfortunatelly the car i pretty far away from my home, so I can't check the progress every day. But next Wednesday I may know more. And may also have some new pictures. I hope no problems will occur till then.

I have a metallic blue Lexus (Intensa Blue Pearl IS 300) and let me tell you, it's a great color. But I don't think it would work on a Celica. It just isn't the right shade of blue. The color you picked looks great and fits the car a lot better than this blue pearl. I can't wait to see the finished product. You might be starting a new trend on 6gc.

Thanks kavy! biggrin.gif I hope your eyes will heal soon, as I hope new pictures will come this week. I'm going for the car on wednesday or thursday, so I'll do as many pictures on the way home, as possible. Only hope that everything will be ok on the car, as there were not many occasions to check the results during the project.

Thanks again richee3. You are right with the blue color. I liked it but couldn't imagine it on my car. Therefore I kept looking for other color and I found this.

Thanks Lil-Joe101, the projectors and JDM tails will look very good on it now, I agree. I'll think about it. The projectors are hard to get in Czech republic. Then a necessary modification for LHD. I would be afraid of modification of parts that expensive. But I saw here, that a few people here did it, so I may try it one day.
But thanks for the idea.

Hi Driver and thanks. The skirts were left on the car as they were glued-on. It's impossible to cut it from the car without causing any damage. But the glue worked as a body filler so I hope It will look good.

Folks... since the car is at least few days done (just small details missing) I had a chance to see the color and say it is from purple through red to orange... depends on light. Unbelievable color. You never have chance to catch it in the picture. Just few sneaky pics for you (I know Uprutus will be mad on me because I broke the rule to not share with pictures first but you deserve it wink.gif)

Sorry for my late update and thanks Malpaso for presenting of few latest pictures.
To Ferdi: thanks wink.gif
To TerBeau: well I saw the color on some poor picture of lexus isf. But as soon as the car was in the paintshop I saw a short video with other lexus with this color, so I wasn't affraid.
As Martin wrote, the car is a few days in my garage, but I had not enough time to present pictures, untill now.

Here are a few pictures from the thursday afternoon when I got the car back:

The color on the inner side of the hood is the second color layer. I was confused that this will be the result of painting wink.gif

I love how it looks together with the lip. Only the silver stripe in the front window and the rims disturbing the final outlook. But it will change before this summer.

The color looks different from different angles and in different light conditions. I like it very much :-)

The back stood without change.

As it was getting cloudy and I had nothing to cover the hole in the hood, the bodyman fit in a thin aluminium sheet. I'll replace it as soon as I have the grill painted in black (may be with red pearl), the same I may do with the wheels;)

Within the next two weeks I hope I reassemble the plastic parts from interior, clean it and add a few more new parts, which are on its way to my address wink.gif

I did a bit of cleaning of the cockpit this weekend. Also checking what parts were destroyed, are missing or were too old that I have to replace them with new ones. So I made a list and today ordered all necessary parts. I hope that will be it for some time, as the list was pretty long and some parts were really not cheap kindasad.gif

Bellow you may see the result of sweeping of the cockpit:

Only a few last interior parts were not installed yet, but next week it will be ready, I'm sure. The cockpit was looking like new after cleaning, only it was too dark outside to make some nice pictures of it. May be next time wink.gif
The next day I went to Malpaso for some new parts. The sun was shining weakly for a few minutes so I made some pictures. This one was the only one, that wasn't overexposed, so you can see another shade of red biggrin.gif

Other parts are on its way to me, so I hope the car is ready for some other changes (I'm not decided yet, so I'm not going to present any details yet) wink.gif

I really appreciate it, richee3. It's always good to know, that you are not the only one who likes something wink.gif

loooks absolutely amazing man! i really love it!

to me though, it just seems like the front end is missing something because of the hood lines going into the opposite lines of the bumper

Thanks mkernz22.
Now about the lines wink.gif The line which goes around high beams is the same. There was no change made here. And the inner line? It depends on the angle from which you are looking at the car. By my opinion it fits pretty well, but the bent would be still visible, as you can't simply trim off the material. But I like it this way and I don't plan any other modification of the hood or the bumper in a bodyshop. wink.gif

I think a different exhaust would improve the looks of your car.

A new exhaust is in my to do list too, but I will leave it to next year when I hope I will work on the engine too.

Well, from the beginning of this project I couldn't say if it would be a success or if I spent a lot of money to realize, that I have to change the bonnet to the standard ST. But now I'm really glad for my decision. I really like it wink.gif

On saturday I made one more upgrade which changed the look of the back of my celi. New (at least the are looking like new) JDM tail lamps were installed. This way I'd like to thank to Recycle and Malpaso for obtaining them for me. They were professionally packed and are like new! Thanks. A few pictures here:

Now it seems much better to me. The new tails are not separatet by black plastic strips as were the older ones. Its red color matches the red color of the car as it is more dark. And this was the last orange segment on the car was removed. Now the silver color elimination may begin biggrin.gif

Urputus: the colour you've chosen is really amazing and I'm pretty sure I'll see it for real this summer, at the PECM, if I can get there smile.gif (and you were saying that MY car's colour was nice ... hmmm kindasad.gif )
The JDM tail lights are a must-have for any Celica owner, I can't wait to get mine... And by the way, looking at the pictures above, I think that your paint is a perfect match for those tail lights... they can't look better on any other colour.
About the modified hood, I think it came out pretty good, even if the center line isn't perfect as it was from the factory. The aerodynamics are probably better than the GT4's. The shape isn't perfect, since the parts weren't initially designed to fit like this from the beginning, but it's a pretty good compromise that nobody (probably) ever thought about and it looks pretty nice!
Congratulations for everything, including the interior cleaning!

I'm not finished with the interior yet, but only the trunk plastic parts are not installed yet and also the driver's door need to be completed. This week it will be ready, I hope.
Thanks for comments and I hope to see you at PECM!

Hello folks!

After nearly one year (without one day laugh.gif ) I started a 5th phase of my project. I think that this would be the last design upgrade of my Celi so I hope you will enjoy it. To the details - I was dreaming about TRD rear wing for longer time and now I can say that I have one piece wink.gif It came from Japan and as you can see, it was wery well packed.

It is in pretty good condition so no serious bodywork on the wing is necessary. Only the holes in the trunk lid did not fit the screws of the TRD wing, so it was necessary to drill new holes and to cover the old ones. The new holes are drilled yet and I hope the painting will not take too long wink.gif

As I didn't want to leave my car in the paintshop I left without the trunk lid, like this laugh.gif Only once we had to stop because the cover could not stand the presure and it cracked. It wasn't good as it cracked on the highway, but nothing what we couldn't fix with a tape biggrin.gif

To be continued ...

That is an awesome solution to not leaving your car, props to you. Nice upgrade as well, I do like the TRD spoiler quite a bit. thumbsup.gif

I just noticed (don't know why I didn't think of this when I saw your car), but you have rear disc brakes! Did you do this conversion yourself? If so, any helpful things to share?

biggrin.gif That was a good joke. But who knows, next project may concern the engine wink.gif

To SwissFerdi: Thanks, everything is fine. I hope you are well too. Do you plan to attend the GT4 meeting in Germany this July? (I mean in Köln and Nürburgring). I hope I can go this time.

Sooo, this time they were quick with the paint and I have my Celi complete again. Here are first pictures of this upgrade biggrin.gif

New tires (Continental Sport Contact 2) and old but newly painted wheels are on their way so soon I'll post something more. And sorry for the quality of the pictures above, there were not the best conditions to take pictures and, yes, my hands where trembling laugh.gif

Yesterday I had a holiday as I was expecting delivery of my new tires. So there was some time to work on my Celi and take some pictures.

New tires need new rims. As I'm pretty satisfied with my rims, I decided only for the colour change. I think, that the shiny black colour suits to the red paint on my car, so this is the result. Can't wait to see it on my car smile.gif

Ehm... the rims should use some polishing biggrin.gif

Thanks man!
I left the body-work on an expert, therefore it was very easy for me biggrin.gif. But from communication with him I know it was quite hard, as there are two layers of aluminum. You can't easily cut into the aluminum hood or weld other piece of aluminum to it to extend the hood. It is also risky to extend the edge of the front bumper, because the extended part may crack then, when closing the hood. That's why he used just hammer wink.gif
So the answer is, that it must have been difficult to fit the hood with the front bumper like this. It doesn's fit "perfectly" but it fits "very well". And I'm pretty sure he did maximum that he could and I'm very satisfied with the result.

The spring finally arrived to Czech Republic, so I changed the wheels and I'm happy with the result. Only the car was quite dirty as I had no time to wash and wax it, so I was glad I have forgotten my DSLR at home biggrin.gif

I also ordered red aluminum wheel nuts (not installed yet) and received the branded kick panels from Vincent (already installed, thanks biggrin.gif )

7a BUILD! love it. what are you doing to it?

I'm still not decided yet. I wanted to supercharge it, but now I'm more inclined to go turbo. But for the start, general repair and cleaning of the engine and its parts is enough wink.gif

Thanks pal! I bought the TRD wing on e-bay in 2011 from Japan. It was a good luck and it fit into my project very well biggrin.gif Someone from 6gc.net asked me about it a few months ago and since then I couldn't find other one frown.gif

I can't find my records about measuring of the bolt holes. Unfortunately the holes were different from the ones for the euro style spoiler. And I'm affraid that it's also different from GT4 wing. The rear screws are going upright to the trunk lid, but the front ones are going to the lid under different angle. You have to drill an oval hole.
If I find my records or I'll manipulate with the wing, I'll measure it again and will let you know.

Of course I'm very happy that my car inspired someone to search for the TRD wing biggrin.gif I hope you'll get lucky to find one in good condition. I suggest to search in Japan, GB or Cyprus. I'll stay tuned wink.gif Thanks

The setup must be reliable and these pistons were recommended to me by a friend as the best solution. Regarding the rods, I'm not decided yet. The motor mechanic told me, that the stock ones are good enough for 200 Hp so I may stay stock here.

What does it mean "went a wheel" ? Does it mean you lost the wheel???

I've heard a lot of bad reviews about these nuts. Whatever you do do not overtighten them or they've got a habit of shearing the thread which as I'm sure you can imagine isn't a good thing frown.gif

Last week I received more parts to my project. After some mistake of the USPS who directed the package to Ireland instead of Czech republic I received the package with ARP bolts. A few days after this I received the forged Spool conrods from Australia (see pictures below). Now I'm waiting for the ARP flywheel bolts and trying to find good clutch suitable for 250 hp's, though the aimed power wold be a bit lower. As the crankshaft is quit old (ca 115 ths miles) a new one from Toyota had to be ordered. Gaskets would be also from Toyota and I hope, that soon I'll have all the parts necessary to close the engine biggrin.gif

The last few days I was choosing the bov. My favorite for now is HKS SSQV.
