I figured I'd make this thread for fun. When u see a tuner drive by or in a lot, pics. what are some things that annoy about the builds?

example:

I cant stand all black rims, makes the car look dirty. And I hate the sound of an exhaust without a CAT

Exhaust is my biggest annoyance. Every Civic/Eclipse/Neon etc... with straight pipe 4" exhaust makes me die inside. If they want to sound like a bumblebee, guess that's their business. Primered body kits. Not so bad at first, I understand not everyone has the money to paint it right away, but once it's been over a year... Eh, that's about it for now I suppose. Unless you can count the punk ass kids that think they're in the "Fast and the Furious".

I assume you typo'ed and you mean you hate the sound of an exhaust without a cat. I don't know how someone can hear a difference. A catalytic converter only burns up any left over emissions. It's not a muffler or a resonator or anything like that. It makes no change in sound. It makes a change in smell... and I like my car stinky.

My pet peeves - before the thread gets locked down:

Big body kits
Chrome anything unless it's a show car engine bay
Big spoilers on FWD cars

This! I had a guy asking me about a motor swap and AWD conversion on a Mitsubishi 3000GT a while back...

My biggest pet peeve is virtually what Tiga said- people who put an exhaust on the car then immediately become so cocky that they think their stock Cavvy will kill a Vette ZR-1.

We can let you slide Joe. tongue.gif At least its not one of those where it looks like someone stole a park bench and attached it to their trunk. I'm just not big on chrome myself. Even on some of the 60's cars its out of place. To me chrome belongs to the 50's. Hey, thought of something else. Wal-Mart/parts house auto trim. I mean, really...

Was planning on painting my rims soon... Would like to have the entire rim painted, but can't afford all the expense of separating tire and rim. then putting back together. Then no way of storing the car without wheels on...etc... Would mask off the entire tire so can get the rim from all angles. That's after cleaning, sanding, cleaning again, then primer and paint. Hopefully would look good. Will be using enamel spray paint... Or I'll just leave them alone and keep the boring aluminum.

What I was thinking, all about preparation. Found a "how to" online where someone painted their Vette rims with tires on. Theirs looked really nice. Going to follow their step by step. Being OCD also helps in these cases I guess. laugh.gif

NOS stickers. And manufacturer banners.

Hey guy with the Civic. We understood it was Honda before you spray-painted the "H" logo on the hood and roof. Then you put a "HONDA" vinyl across your windshield, and "H" logo on your back window. We get it, it's still a stock Honda. Mighty D-series power.

I agree with you and Kurt - it's all in the prep work. I had months to strip, sand, and paint my tC wheels but if I had to do them while on the car I'd make sure to mask them, use index cards inserted between the rim and tire to prevent overspray, and use nice even coats without a ton of runoff.

^ Or, do it the easy way and spray the wheels flat black, that way, no need to mask off the tire. redface.gif Although why somebody would paint their wheels while on the car is a bit beyond my reasoning.

My pet peeves include people who don't use correct syntax for their peeves, along with terrible exhaust mods - you guys know what those are.

I'll take the wheels off the car, so I can paint all of the rim not covered by tire. Just not taking the tire off the rim. Thinking can get two at a time. Have a floor jack and two stands. Hmm, back on topic eh....

people who put trd stickers on stuff that is clearly not trd. oh wait nvm

I am guilty of a few, I have a big shiny muffler on stock exhaust, my kids liked it.lol
I have a big spoiler on a fwd car, I can assure you, downforce for high speed cornering, is still down force
regardless of where the power comes from.

I have had people give me the thumbs up while simply driving down the highway, I have had others point
at my spoiler and laugh. I get "nice supra" more than "nice celica" which tells me the average joe knows squat.
I think location has as much to do with what is "cool" as anything else. People who slam their cars around here are
laughed at, other places it is all the rage. Who is to say what is cool and what is not, it is your car, do what you like,
if the haters can't deal fu#kem. wink.gif

My biggest pet peeve is people "tuning" automatics, unless it at least has paddle shifters. Imo with automatic you're not even feeling the car, so why try and altar the feeling? Basically I don't understand modifying something for performance when you skipped the key performance option from factory.

I mean aesthetically I don't mind modified automatics, just performance wise..

I hate big pointless spoilers. OEM ones actually have purpose and use on FWD cars, like our Celica's. It adds downforce to the rear so that the light rear doesn't swing around. It also scoops air to allow you to go straight and fast without any unbalance. That's why our cars that are not GT-FOUR don't come with the HUGE spoiler and riser blocks. There is no point in that much down force.

Honda owners. There is a fine line between a fart can and a real straight through... most don't get it.

Cheap rims. What's the point in Walmart rims on a nice car, or Rays on a rusty piece of ****?

Import neglect. Lets throw a turbo on it and then abuse the **** out of it, but do nothing to maintain it so that the guy behind you thinks he's in a James Bond film due to your smoke screen.

okay, so being the Japanese Culture Major I am, I cannot stand This:

its so stupid. they put it on the most USDM cars possible too. "JDM huh? what did you do to it?" "its mostly stuck right now..." seriously...

but really Domokun (I also understand is an internet fad) is just a mascot for a Japanese TV company NHK, and had a couple shorts done about him. on top of that this JDM as **** ****. that symbol in the middle? means beginner driver first year drivers. that it... so are you saying you are an amateur driver?

with that said, I don't mind people using the Domokun thing... as long as you know what it is. I personally have domokun dice in my car (they were a gift from a friend so why not right?)

but that's imho,
Kevin

For drag racing, look to see how many people, (cars with power) have manuals.
My son recently picked up a 98 z28 with an LS1 auto, there are only a dozen or so celicas
on here that would hang with it on a strip and it is bone stock.

I get a kick out of listening to people with under 10 years experience behind the wheel
talking about "feel". lol
Slide around in a 74 maverick you will know "feel", you haven't lived until you driven a 3 on the tree
sliding corners with 30 degrees of body lean. lol Drive a 68 Charger until the 150mph speedo is straight down
with bias ply tires. Feel haha
Why don't you kids worry about your own $hit.

Oh, and I will take on anyone of you in a STREET RACE!!!!

My dad had a 96 Z28 auto. If you got heavy on the throttle it'd spin the rear tires. No denying the manual would've been better though. I know the two speed Power Glide is usually a favourite for the strip in the older cars. We all know the old cars rolled more than the audience at a Grateful Dead concert. laugh.gif I guess that's half the fun, and nowadays that can be changed if you want. Bias ply tires, can you even get those anymore? If anyone makes them I guess it'd be Coker.

Excessive reving (especially with any loud exhaust on a 4 cyl car). I get wanting to hear the aftermarket exhaust (and some sound good) or showing off, but most of the time its just annoying.

Chrome wheels. Huge pet peeve for me on any car or truck that is not fully built to be a show queen.

No offence, but I don't have a whole lot respect for drag racing.
Yea, its impressive when cars are runnin 8 sec's, 6 sec's, whatever, but anything thats not unbelievable fast, doesn't seem like it takes a whole lot of skill either than hitting your shifts, and having the cash/knowledge to build a car.

Probably gunna get flamed, oh well.

I am not taking it that way at all, and I know any 6th gen celica would crush a camero in corners with equal drivers.
I personally like my car the way it is and could care less what anyone else thinks.
I just can't see how bashing this, and bashing that, is constructive in any way. Back in the day when the mods weren't all tired of babysitting, this thread would have been locked prolly before page 2. I thought talking smack was what that chat room thingy was for.

Yeah the street racing comment was just for the lock, haha,
My stock corolla gts is the fastest car I own, and it would barely pull my stock ST.

Trends change, 8 years ago veilside kits were all the rage now they are considered rice I guess.

Before the z28 my son had a escort gt, he wanted me to put this big fart cannon on to sell it to the local ricer crowd. I had no money for proper hanging, so I drilled a hole thu the tip and bolted it directly to the rear quarter panel. lol thats about as
getto as it gets.

My list of peeves would have to be other people calling each other out and trying to race each other. The smack talk involve about others being slow and bragging about the quarter mile times. When you try to bring up a casual conversation they turn into an encyclopedia and start labeling parts they have and how much horsepower it give them. The way I see it, every part on a car is an engineering marvel and people go and butcher it up with "mods" that don't compliment the car.

At the end of the day it all boils down to who has the most money. The more money you dump into a car the fast it goes. When you are "hating" on someone else car your essentially making fun of someone else who has less money then you. And that is something no one should be proud of. To end my random rant; I guess my biggest peeve is when people tie their ego, wealth, and insecurities to their cars to prove a point.

Not really. Was behind a Mazda 3 earlier at the store that sounded like a bumblebee. Then as I walked out there was a Miata with 18" chrome rims and 4" exhaust. laugh.gif Tasteful mods I'm all for. Lowering, air intake, not straight-pipe exhaust systems, etc... But what some people do... There's a distinction between doing what's within your means and bastardizing a car.

I'm more impressed by someone who can beat me through turns than someone who can burn tires in a straight line. Straight line is all based on who has more power. What's the point in racing someone if they have two or three times as much power as you. You know that you're going to lose. But in corners, it's not who has more power, it's who can hit the corner in the better line. It's who can put the pedal down at the right moment leaving the apex and who can brake and release at the correct time entering the corner. It boils down to who knows their car the best and who is the better driver.

I hate kids that come into my work place and ask to "take it to the streets." I refuse to street race. There is no dignity, no honor and it's just plain stupid. Why would you risk the lives of others for some jolly's? The only street racing I will do is sanctioned on a closed off area.

Soulend, I agree. That emblem pisses me off so much. Most people don't know and don't care to know. I love seeing them on Neons and Probes.

Street racing is stupid an can get you killed
But hey im still up for a stop light to stoplight race if the mood strikes right an the roads are clear of other people

-Eurotails on ANYTHING
-people who sit and bounce their stupid d/b/h/k/whatever-series off the rev limiter
-chrome rims on import cars
-"vent" inserts on stock fenders
-neon lights
-lambo doors (not to be copied, lambos only)
-massive body kits that add more weight than style
-fart can exhausts with stock res/cats/headers, etc.
-steelies, hub caps, wheel mismatch or combinations
-more than a few degrees of camber (like the scion xB pictured earlier)
-multi-colored engine bays with no particular scheme
-spoilers taller than our stock gt 3post or st.
-non-functional "vented hood scoops"
-stupid excessive shift knobs
-excessive stickers
-people who claim they "built" their car when mom & dad paid for their swap and/or had it done somewhere.
-acting like JDM hardware is as good as aftermarket upgrades (engine parts, not cosmetic/body)
-rusted hoods that are growing into a "trend"
-poorly designed/sounding subwoofers. Read up on it and do it right. Don't just throw some sh!t in a box and run wires all over the car.
-cars with hacked up wiring harnesses and not soldering electronic work.
-people who just like to rev their boosted car to hear their BOV or compressor surge

Lol, I don't get why you think I was bashing. Its MY pet peeve. If you and your son think auto is cool, congratulations.

Why do you rush to judge my driver skill based on not having 10 years behind a wheel? I am a far better driver then 90% of people with over 10 years behind a wheel.. I have actually taken high performance driving classes at Pacific Raceways. And not just in a Celica like you you probably are assuming, but in my Dad's Dinan tuned BMW. So please don't tell me I don't get the "feel" of a car! That is flat out rediculous that just because you are older than me and your license has existed longer than mine, that I don't know the feel of a car. I'm talking about track racing cars built to do so and you are assuming I just like to street race? I thoroughly enjoy driving on the track, and as Jordison stated, I LOVE the feeling of hitting your shifts through corners, etc. YES, the FEEL! I'm telling you straight up that it would be nowhere near that fun in an auto. I also enjoy drifting (I'm 5 minutes from Evergreen Speedway). Again, NOT happening in an auto. And automatic drag cars are pointless IMO. To me, the sport is all about the launch, not who can press the gas pedal down the fastest, haha.

It was just a comment about my pet peeve... Sorry it made you so upset, lol. That's just so rediculous that you think you need 10 years to get the "feel" of a car? I've had an 05 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro, ST165, my 6gc, AE86 GTS, and s13 (Guess none of those are driver's cars...) I've taken Car control clinics, gone to lapping days with my dad's BMW club, and done high perofrmance driving school. I was also a delivery driver for three and a half years. I have LOTS of experience, with LOTS of cars, so that is just an incredibly ignorant assumption. And yeah, let's see who can get a better lap around pacific raceways, srsly. wink.gif tongue.gif

Goodness why does everyone's opionion need to be the same..its a freaking forum..

cjh4l22, I agree on all accounts. Though "lambo doors" look ok, provided they're done on a car that the door doesn't have a window frame. Nothing like seeing them on a sedan... thumbsdown.gif

It made me chuckle, I wasn't offended at all, It sounds like I hurt your FEELings.
I did not intend to. Most of the cars I grew up driving have been crushed by now.
I never got to go to driving school, my family didn't FEEL it was in the budget.
I have been driving since age 13, I used to drive flag rig for my stepdads wheat combine,
yes it is legal, it is considered a farm vehicle. I am 45 and have had one accident
that was my fault, 4 accidents total. I have driven fwd, rwd, 4wd, 6wd and a half dozen
or more track vehicles. Tanks, APCs, armored recovery vehicles as well as almost
any farm impliment you can think of. I can't afford to come drive your road course,
not that weather in the PNW would even allow it this year. I personally like back roads,
gravel, rocky, FEEL your head hit the roof roads. I don't think I am the greatest driver in
the world by any means. I am sure Skip Barber would not approve of some of my methods.
I personally like manuals because you can FEEL the engine turn over while
push starting.

My son bought an auto because his wife wanted an auto, and well, you know
how that gos. To some of us money is an object, he got a very clean
98 z28 with 60k for 6 grand.
I will tell you my kids don't look down on anyone, regardless of what they drive.
I am very proud of both of them. They are great human beings which has always been my goal.

It isn't anything about your comment, it is this thread
and the site in general. Bashing anyone, isn't what this place used to be about.
I know I am too old for this place, and it is long past time to move on.
This site used to be a great one, it wasn't built on words like ricer or noob. I met people here
I would consider some of my closest friends, hell I even flew out to RI for a meet once, with
some help from those friends. Any one of them are welcome at my home any time.
I am sorry if I hurt your FEELings I did not intend to.

Why I must find a woman that can drive manual. tongue.gif

Like when you see people driving an 80's Malibu with 22" rims. You point and laugh, then smash your face into the steering wheel wondering what the Hell they're thinking. I'm doing all this in good humour, as I think most of us are. We're all guilty of at least one of these things. Unless you keep the car 100% stock, then you're just no fun at all. laugh.gif

97, you aren't too old for this place but I think you're seeing that the maturity level of the forum has waned recently (within the last 2 years or so) as more of the original/elder members/moderators has stepped back and/or are moving on. Manny, Dustin, yourself, etc. are all moving on to other vehicles or in life and aren't around to police the forum like it used to be and with the inflex of people asking about things covered in the stickies all over the forum its become less "home" and more "zoo" at points.

I don't think the intention of this thread was to bash but to list the things that annoy you about the import scene - things owners do that personally annoy you. For me, it's not a judgement call or me bashing anyone but more along the lines of having more respect for your vehicle - if you're going to mod it do the best you can with what you have even if you're limited on funds if you do it correctly instead of half-assed that's real dedication and I can respect that.

/soapbox rant

PS: I thnk you've hit the nail on the head though with your last paragraph.

97 your not too old
I think keiri has a point the the newer members (myself included) have probably changed up the way things are on here an theres not alot of older members left so the sites bound to change up alittle as the age groups shift
But everyone here still has fun an enjoys the site it just might not be in the same way it was 2-4-6 years ago

I highly dought liljoe made this thread to bash on anyone
If he did it backfired cuz half the stufc said is all on his car lol

not entirely.. ive got a friend with an '02 mustang pushing nearly 900hp and he may have 10k in it with the cost of the car.. you don't have to have a ton of money, just know what you are doing

I know none of this is my buisness and really care less and less everyday.
I personally don't see any difference besides title wording from this thread,
and you see how long it lasted.
