My "new" toy. Here is the story. Since high school I have been wanting this car. First was the USDM spec however as time went on and I started getting more into these Japanese made vehicles... I got more into the JDM spec of things.

Anyways I wanted to import this vehicle so badly however at that time the GT4 was not yet 15 years of age, so I couldn't import it. While waiting there was a fight going on between importers and Transport Canada going on for the worse. The ruling that one cannot bring a vehicle over unless the vehicle was at least 25 years of age. Since I heard this, I felt that I should give up on my want to bring the GT4 over to Canada... So I bought my first 6th gen, a 1997 Celica GT 5SFE:

Had this vehicle for a while, then found out that the ruling for the 25 year importing fell out. So I imported this baby:

I was now the second owner of this GT4.. and I now obtained my dream car!!!

This is where my story begins...

Yes motor swaps... That was what I was going to turn to with the 97' GT... However since the GT4 was available I couldn't pass up the opportunity! Now I have a winter car and summer car. Both 6GC's!!!

Yes good to live here for the import rules hahaha. We almost moved to the 25 year rule... That would have been just frown.gif
I will definitely post pics of my progression! Soon to come. I have some stuff coming in from Vincent_Doggy and Spree just for some teasers...

So these are some things that have already been done... I got a Koyo Radiator for the car and installed it as the stock one over winter (since it was parked outside) cracked... Might as well replace that right? Anyways heres a picture of the radiator along with the progression..

My brother in-law helped me put it in... Great to have a mechanic in the family!
Along with that new rotors, stainless steel brake lines and some audio stuffs and new starter/alarm. Unfortunately I had Vincent_Doggy's radiator cooling plate before however with the new radiator it didn't fit... However one upside to removing the cooling panel is that the hood stand fits again haha!

And also after install and a small wash!

The story continues!

So after driving my brakes went... Found out what was wrong with them. The install on the SS brake lines was improper and resulted in this:

Pretty unhappy...
Looked everywhere for this on the forums... Just had a set re made from my brother in-law.

Here is the replaced part!

Now I just need to bleed out the brakes!

And guess what just came in today! Thanks Vincent_Doggy!

And also this.. I just couldn't pass it up HAHA

Okay well I got a little carried away with some minor modifying... So I had all of the items and just decided that since I was working on the covers for the center arm rest and shot and e-brake boots, I might as well add on some of the other stuff I gathered over winter. Here it is.

So along with the mods that I am doing... I am looking into new shoes! I need some guidance... I have been looking at different wheel sizes and really I am interested in 18" or 19" wheels... So I would like to know what the maximum width I could choose as well as if anyone has pictures of their wheels either 18" and 19" I would like to see them on the vehicle as it would greatly help my purchase.

He already brought couple skylines and s15 silvias to some people here in florida. he always arrives in different jdm cars to a car meet that i go. You need to pay hik cash. You pay him half of the money before he go and the other half when the car arrives. He can bring and register ANY jdm car. Very good contact. Pm me and ill give you his info if you got the $$$$$

How i wish i had that kind of money but i dont
If i ever find myself in a spot where i can do that i will definitely be getting ahold of you

guess its time to start saving up.

coming along very nicely only critique is the shift knob looks kinda too small for the shifter. maybe its just the shifter boot. idk but looking real good.

Is that a hair dryer? xD Didn't know a simple hair dryer was strong enough to remove the plastic lens haha

It definitely was... And it kept the mastic warm and pliable!

Yea Spy00005, I agree 100% and it is very small.. I thought it was going to be bigger however I was wrong... Darned E-bay. I already ordered a Momo King Chrome shift knob to replace it... Just feels weird... I went back to the stock for the time being.

So I installed the projection headlights... No photos yet.. But anyways.. looks like the cut offs are pointed in the wrong direction! JDM direction! Now i blind on coming traffic. I had to point the lights a little downward so that I wasn't doing that. The 8,000k HIDs don't help either haha. Pics to come!

And some pics from the rear. No need to blur out the license plate. If you drive behind me you'd see it anyways.

I have decided to start looking for some new "shoes" as the stock 3-Spoke wheels are just not doing justice for me anymore. I would really like to have a "street" looking vehicle so I figure that wheels ranging from 7 - 10 spoke is where I would start.

I have checked out tirerack.com and have come up with some options. I am hoping that someone could maybe help me with some photoshopping as I am absolutely terrible with that program.

Also I would like a "flush" look. I have checked "Timmyface's" progression and based on that information I think that 18x8 with 30 offset is the best measurement to go with to have "flush" fitment withour spacers. (Please correct me if I am wrong)

Anyways, here are the options that I have come up with:

Option 1: Motegi Racing SP10 Hyper Black
Size: 18x8
Offset: +40mm
Backspacing: 6.06"
Bolt Pattern: 5-100
Rec. Tire Size: 215/35-18
Weight: 19.0lbs.

Option 2: Enkei EDR9 Bright Silver
Size: 18x7.5
Offset: 38mm
Backspacing: 5.74"
Bolt Pattern: 5-100
Rec. Tire Size: 215/35-18
Weight: 23.0lbs.

Option 3: Enkei Performance Imola Bright Silver
Size: 18x8
Offset: +40mm
Backspacing: 5.98"
Bolt Pattern: 5-100
Rec. Tire Size: 215/35-18
Weight: 22.4lbs.

And this last one is one that really caught my eye: BBS CF Machines w/ Anthracite Accent
Size: 18x8
Offset: 35mm
Backspacing: 5.82"
Bolt Pattern: 5-100
Rec. Tire Size: 215/35-18
Weight: 24.0lbs.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Weight of the rim really is not a concern to me... But if I was to factor in weight, I think that the Enkei PF01 would be a choice...

Okay... so I have done a little more research and have found that I should be concerned with the weight of my rims... (Forgive my noobiness) but anyways I have come up with some more options..

First option: Sparco Assetto Gara in Green color
The specs are as follows:
Size: 17x7.5
Offset: 35mm
Backspacing: 5.62"
Bolt Pattern: 5-100
Rec. Tire Size: 215/40-17
Weight: 19.4lbs.
Finish: Green Painted
Construction: 1 Pc. Gravity Cast

This looks like a great wheel and I hope it has an 18" option.

The second option is: O.Z. Ultraleggera in Bright Silver Paint
The specs are as follows:
Size: 17x8
Offset: 35mm
Backspacing: 5.91"
Bolt Pattern: 5-100
Rec. Tire Size: 205/50-16
Weight: 18.0lbs.
Finish: Bright Silver Paint
Construction: 1 Pc. Low Pressure Cast w/Shot Peened

I am kinda of not familiar with Sparco rims, so if there is anyone that can give me some idea on the quality of these rims. I heard that O.Z. makes these rims in the background so if anyone can please fill me in, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sparco rims are made in China, and all O.Z. rims are made in Italy. So I highly doubt it. If it were me and had the money to spend would go with some SSR Type F wheels. 16.7 to 17.6 pounds for an 18 inch wheel, depending on width.

Hrmm... I thought that Sparco teamed up with OZ to make rims... Does made in China really mean that the quality of the rim is degraded?

Well, it certainly means it wasn't improved. Apparently there is a collaboration, found this on their site:

QUOTE
The result of a partnership by two of the strongest names in motorsport, OZ and SPARCO, the new collection of SPARCO specialist alloy automotive wheels combines Italian design, high-quality materials and OEM construction technologies to create an exclusive series of TÜV homologated wheels inspired by the racetrack.

Odds are what happened is O.Z. had old machinery for making wheels, so they moved it to a plant in China and is making wheels there under the Sparco name. That or from the write up, O.Z. just designs the wheels and then Sparco has a Chinese factory make them.

you do know that on the tirerack website you can see all the wheels on your celica and choose the color of your car. oh btw, get 215/45R17 if your going to get 17x7.5 rims and get 225/45R17 with 17x8 rims. you can still fit a 8 inch wide rim on a 215 width tire, but Id go with 225 if I were you.

I have tried to filter the wheels for the celica however it filters out all of the 18" rims since it uses the specs from a 1994 Toyota Celica GT model... I am pretty sure that I can fit 18" on the JDM version of the celica as it has a larger tire diameter that comes OEM... I would really prefer to put 18" wheels on to it as it would look very nice. I asked a supplier to see if the OZ Racing Ultraleggera wheels come in a 18x8 size with a 30-35 offset and a 5x100 bolt pattern as I think that I have made a decision... But we shall see.

Thanks for the tire suggestions Bonzai. Much appreciated!

Woot... I thought I'd resurrect this forum from the dead... Now that its winter I can garage it and start working on it... Here is what I've done so far:

Much thanks to DoGGy for this wicked addition

So I've Gutted the inside of the vehicle:

AND I have installed some sound proofing material! Much thanks to my friend who hooked me up with the material.

Also took out the rear paneling but ran out of material so could only do some patch work on the center pillar as you can see. More material to come to complete the back seats and the truck area!

Thanks all I have for you for now... I'm currently on the hunt for some Alcantara to re-do my head liner and visors!

Another addition to my 6GC and also to resurrect my progression... I recently purchased some black Alcantara to redo my headliner. Here is a picture and it looks great! I give thanks to my girlfriend who helped me with the install.

Next I will need to learn how to sew so that I can do the visors...

MOAR UPDATES YOU SAY! OKAY!!!

Anyways.. I started working on some aesthetics cause well... I feel as though I need to update the look of my baby more. Anyways, the JDM headlights are a GREAT addition to the 6GC, however, it just seems too generic... I guess you can guess what I have been working on. Anyways, here are some pics of my current project:

First I took apart my old headlights:

Then I got myself a set of these beautiful things... Motimoto H1 Retrofit Projectors courtesy of Lightwerkz!

I then took a "dremel" tool and cleaned out the inside "stump" as I would call it that holds the old halogen lamp in place.

Then I sanded the inside of the reflector housing and did some fitting to see how everything would look... Doesn't look too bad in my opinion.

My next job was to prime, paint, and then clear-coat the reflector housing and the reflector accent a nice modern black.

After much toil, I put everything back together to see what it would look like and WOW... What a beauty!

Only thing left to do is to find a place where I can take the original headlight lenses and sand them down to make them clear cause as they are right now... Well, lets just say the projector beam will blind a lot of people lol. I can't wait to finish that last piece of the puzzle and install my new headlights!

If any of you guys know where I can get clear lenses for my headlights, it would really save me a lot of time. Otherwise I will have to wait until, like I said, I can find a place that will be able to "de-line" my current lenses. frown.gif

BTW, there was a group by a couple of years ago on clear replacement lenses that were custom made... sometimes you can get lucky and find a set, but they are a rare find these days.

I know! I've been looking for a set of those replacement clears, but much to my dismay I can't find them. They're too rare! Someone has to bring them back!

In the meanwhile ill have to revert back to the drawing board on how I'm going to sand down my headlights..

Rayme doesn't make the clear lenses anymore, but there is a seller on eBay that always has several sets.

So it has been some time since I've worked on by 6GC... I just thought I would throw on a few more progression pictures.

I just installed a new dash kit by Lockwood...:

Also just got a new addition and project to work on. I was inspired by LED_BOY:

Love the dash kit! What's the part number? I would love to get this. Also I liked the hood dampers. Where did you get those? Are they OEM? I've been looking for them for a while. I must not be looking for them in the right place!

Hey the dash kit I actually found on E-Bay. I was just looking and really gave up on looking for new dash kits or dials. I had purchased SPREE's led kit and all though it was nice, it just didn't do justice for me. I really wanted to spiffy up the dash to make it look modern. Anyways, I have attached the link so that other people can get this!!!
Dash Kit

As for the hood dampers, I also got those from E-Bay and I was lucky that I found carbon fibre ones... They fit perfectly, however I am thinking of getting a carbon fibre hood (due to hail damage) and well.. I think that the dampers may be too strong, if I use them I'll end up folding the carbon fibre hood in half when I try to close it. We'll see. I tried to find the link for the hood dampers... however I was unsuccessful. Sorry!!

Anyways, some have asked me to add some more to my progression... As you all know, I just purchased some awesome JL Audio TW3 10" subs and want to put them in. Some may say that I am a copy cat, but I give much credit to LED-BOY's progression thread where he did the sound system for his wife. It has given me inspiration and I really liked the factory look of the final product. Here is what I have so far:

This is what I started off with, but just didn't look right... So I had to go back to LED-BOY's thread and well, I had to start again... I did some cutting with a dremel and made more space to work with:

Then I used a thinner box as it was easier to work with and contour the edges:

After all the box was lined, I then sealed all the corners with masking tape and now I'm ready to start applying resin and fibreglass:

Cant wait until I start laying fibreglass down and things start to take shape. Ill post more as I go!!!

So some updates as I go. I have been trying to find time to actually lay the fibreglass into the molds. This is what I have so far. It doesnt look too bad for a first timer.

Now I'm having a hard time removing the tape from the half enclosure... Any suggestions... I'm thinking a blade and some patience... I figured a sander would help but the adhesive from the pate would just gum the sand paper all up and render it useless...

At this point all I am doing is strengthening the box enclosure so that there is minimal vibration. Once I figure out how to get all the tape off, I need to start to place the mounting points to the car and for the 10" sub mounts.

I unpacked my subs as well just to see how beautiful they are, and boy are they a beaut!!!

So I ran into an issue. Im trying to change the wheel bearing on the front driver side of my 6GC... And I cannot remove the upper ball joint. I think that it might be seized.. Does anyone know of a good way to take it off of the hub assembly? I sprayed it with some WD40 to loosen it, but I don't think that it is going to help.

HELP please!

Never mind.. I took a hammer to it and it just needed more force than I was giving it. Just didnt want to damage anything...
