weeellll lets hope i dont get into an accident lol naahhh right now the car is gonna be down indeffinetly until i swap in the new engine(spun rod bearing ) an yes the it had crossed my mind and im putting some thght into strengthening the finished product i have a cupple rolls of kevlar an about 6 yards of carbon fibr to play with as well but who knows accidents tend to be pretty unforgiving as far as custom cars go or any for that matter.

Ok walking again still painful but doable. so I started getting ready for fiberglass ing tonight an will have updates in about a week or two as money is a bit of an issue at this point in time since I've been on leave from work .so when money is coming back in I'll be finishing the project an making more progress again.

Will start fiberglass by tomorrow after more prep work.

Ok I'm thinking about cutting the bumper in half where the blue stops and having the bottom section stationary for easier. Removal since all that is taped up will be one complete piece plus makes it easier when separating parts later
Or option two front end and hood an fenders all one complete piece but makes the process a lot harder to do. What do you guys think ?

I am also thinking about changing the side skirts and rerouting the exhaust to come out through the bottom section of the side skirt since the engine swap we are doing is a v 6 but not a major fan of that style

Or should I leave these side skirts on there????

Looks interesting.

My only negative...is doing that to a GT4 hood...could have put some good use to that, and you could have fabbed something unique instead.

cant wait to see a new design idea, especially some new hood ideas. Ive been drawing up some hood ideas of my own, just not 100% yet on any.
And may sound dumb but what happens to the rain water in the top of a gt4 hood? does it just fall on the engine?lol seems kinda dumb
Cause i got some ideas but the water is the only problem im still wondering about

I actually hate bodykits and all things fiberglass, but that is one badass looking car.

You should totally paint it like a stealth jet, And how wide of a wheel will you be able to run?

You should convert it from a fastback/hatchback to a flat back window like the old stingray corvettes.

you know that the low pressure point slows down the car, right? that was a problem on my 1991 MR2, thats why people make covers with vent holes like the ferrari F40, to at least reduce the drag created by the low pressure point behind the cockpit

As far as layers I would do a minimume of 4 to 8 layers being your max unless u wanna strengthen it more.

Mold release wax + vaccum bag setup would be your friend for this.
Should also think about forming ribs to strengthen the system

Yeah im no stranger to that have a vacuum form table already but in this case this was the easiest method for this particular projct. An yes I do realize the need for forming some type of ribs underneath but at this point its to early for that I was considering carbon fiber but not sure about this route yet the design will most likely be changing so worring about strengthening will most likely come later...

you should post pictures of your concept art too, that way we can see faster where youre heading with this biggrin.gif. I cant wait to see it finished!
I too plan to do some koenigsegg type deal with the front of the car, ill be using BMW headlights tho just to try something different since most people here just do subaru, supra, and dodge neon headlights. what I liked about the MR2 is that people werent limited to like 3 different headlight mods, they have over 30 different headlights they install and custom make for the MR2s... the FTO headlights were my fave. anyway back to topic,
I have to redo the whole font end, to make the body go with the headlights otherwise it wont look right, and this thread is very inspiring even tho im allergic to fiberglass :'( every time I mess with it days later I get like little water blister/pimples between my fingers. so I guess you should consider yourself lucky that doesnt happens to you too and props to you for the project so far its coming along very nice, and hope to see some lotus styling on the celica soon smile.gif

Lol its actually interlocking eva foam floor mats good for mach up purposes from home depot I use it as a base for what I build off off and its also what I use to design my costumes. Very cheap an easy to work with, with the use of a heat gun an dremel examples of past things ive done if you would like any info feel free to ask brother you got my number an I hve losts of pics...
(Kits an hoods you would make a mach up an fiberglass over then seporate)
Example of some things you can do

Made useing same materials but skulls were glassed over an dremeled
Example 2

You can get pretty intricate with your design after some practice honestly I never really thought to use this material to make body kits before untill recent ly

A bit off topic but how much $$$ do you want in order to make me a bleach hollow mask? biggrin.gif

Really though, huge props for being original and using what you have. Companies need more people like you to build off the wall car parts for both the exterior and interior. Can't wait to see the finished product!

WOW! dude that is inflippingcredible! you make me want to go out and buy the materials to do this!... but then I remember Im broke as hell right now LOL

so I went to home depot the other day and found out they sell that stuff for like 20$ for just 4 sheets!
on ebay on the other hand you can buy 16 sheets of the same exact thing for like 63$! so technically compared to home depot you get 4 for free and free shipping after taxes and everything.
so as soon as I can, Ill buy 16 of those for sure biggrin.gif

How is such a one-piece body kit reliable when vehicle is going at top speed? What I mean to ask is not about aerodynamics but safety of not seeing the body piece flying over your head on the highway, because it doesn't seem that it could be attached very firmly...

I like your skills though smile.gif

This is just the start after ive got to a point where I like the design. another copy will be made as one complete piece and reinforced with a skeleton underneath an it will be at least a minimum of four layers thick (at minimum) This peice that is made from foam will not be used it will be copied however in either carbon or fiberglass and used on the final construction process. Final product should be able to withstand abuse an tests I put it through if not it willl not be used. Im no stranger to saftey and everything would be a major waste if I disregaurded that aspect of the build.

Ok somewhat like this viper's hood, except minus the bulge and scoop in the middle. Like if those louvered vents went uninterrupted from one side to the other.
I'm my own questionable taste the center "spine" jumping over the large vent in the cylinderhead area is too high and out of place, and the vent itself is too large and open. So the best remedy IMO would be to remove or shorten(down to surrounding hood height, it shouldnt bulge up) the center spine/support jumping the vent and add large louvered vents to fill the giant hole in the hood(visually not aerodynamically). Maybe 3 to 6 seperate fins/louvers following the same curvature at the leading edge of the vent.

If you desire the large open vent and distaste the louver idea, might I suggest using a screen or perforated material at the base of the vent(so applied from under the hood). This way you don't fill in the sexy curve of the vent but you block the engine compartment from view. I think exposing the engine will make the car seem less substantial and make the vent seem more unnecessary(no mystery of whether some monsterous machine is gulping air thru that hole). Id still recommend droping the center support/spine closer to the curvature of the rest of the hood line.
Anyways I'm sorry to sound picky, it looks awesome so far and I envy you fabrication skills.
