Hmmm, mine is odb1 so I'm not sure, but on mine you can jump te1 to e1 in the diagnostic connector then turn on the key and count the flashes of the check engine light.
Unfortunately they don't have the service manual for the 96+ models on bgbonline.celicatech.com you might want to see if you can find a factory service manual on eBay that would be a big help for this kind of problem. idk if you have an AutoZone nearby but you can rent scanners from them. -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.
