I have been pricing transmissions and transmission rebuild kit and im not entirely sure which kit to buy. I cant find a transmission locally with low mileage or within my budget. Does anyone know where i can buy a rebuild kit?

Would help to know which transmission you're talking about... Let's just assume is the S54 box that comes with 2.2L engine.
A rebuild kit with all the synchros and bearings will probably run you much more than a low mileage transmission - here's one for $666.19. And then you still need tools and know how to put it all together. Not terribly difficult, but it's a pretty advanced job. Hence why almost nobody does that. Usually, only parts that need replacing are replaced, such as bearings or select worn synchros. Those can be purchased from a dealer. Bearings are $30-80 (depending on which one), and synchros I thing are $80 and up. I recently rebuilt my gearbox (customized gearing, LSD) and have some spare parts - shift forks, gears, synchros - feel free to PM me if you need anything, and we can work something out. |
