You should use braded 00 gage, that is what my dad used for his home made jumper cables, there is no delay when jumpstarting a car
 but dont short them things out, you will blow a battery like instantly..... I ran 10 guage to my mids and highs, and 8gauge to my subs, will probly use 6 or 8 gauge for replaement grounding wires.
