A corolla has pretty decent gas mileage. If it is a 2009, be weary of the whole gas pedal issue as that seems to be the source of the problems is with the 09's (which I keep hearing it is just the stupid mat, why don't they just take out the mat? really?).

Yeah that lil Yaris is hot, I like it. Well best of luck to you man. So you are keeping the Celica or get rid of it?

The Corollas only had the gas pedal recall, and if you just bought it, then they mostly likely already took care of the problem. The pedal is going to be either a CTS or Denso pedal. If it's a Denso pedal, then you're good to go. The CTS gas pedal has a small metal plate on it that has the part number and manufacture date number. The date number is going to be something like 10027. This means that the pedal was manufactured on the 27th day (Jan 27th) 2010. All pedals made after Jan 16th, 2010 are good. If it's prior to that date, then there should be a white marking on the pedal to show if the pedal has been fixed or not.

But that's something you really shouldn't have to worry about. When new cars are taken in on delivery, it's part of the predelivery inspection to check the pedal before it can be approved to be sold.

Ooo, I see Yaris's were mentioned. This is my girl's Yaris, she won't let me do much to it...possibly cause she is still paying for it!

Nice work on the rolla, i'm sure it'll be fun.

MaskedMan explained the gas pedal thing pretty well. Its only really occurred in less than 10 vehicles with well over 100k miles, every other claim has been driver error or improperly installed or excessive floor mats.
The brake system recall on the Corolla was only 09 and very early production 10 models. Its only for a brake system vacuum port on the throttle body that gets moisture in it and can freeze causing brake problems, this only occurs in temperatures below -32 deg. I think you'll be fine.
As far as the steering issues, they are under investigation still. Supposedly it causes the car to be hard to keep straight when on the highway, like it wanders too much. Which IMO is pretty much a characteristic of the new electronically controlled steering in all the new vehicle.
But I work for Toyota so I think everybody is crazy because they are all driving me crazy...

They only make a big deal out of it because Toyota is Dominating the US market in automobiles (At least I am seeing it in my city) and are sore losers about it. That's just like how the world works though, sometimes 1 person can do all good, the moment they fail with a common issue (because they were not known to do that), and all of a sudden that 1 bad thing outweighs all the good they have done. Look at Tigerwoods, once he made a mistake and the whole world points a finger at him, even by those who have done worst and continue to do so. Because Toyota is best known for reliability, this issue got out of hand... Their 1 mistake.

Some people are saying its just a way to get the sales back to Ford and GM since the government owns them, some Fords and GMs use the same gas pedals made by the same company but nobody is saying anything about that now are they.

I honestly don't believe that Toyota mess. A lot of buddies of mine have bought '09 and '10 Toyotas and nothing has happened. My buddy's mom got an '09 Corolla XRS and she beats on it and races it, lol. It's fine. People in America love to exaggerate. Same here in Puerto Rico. All of a sudden, everybody is having problems. Before the mess, nobody said anything. People are sheep. I hate them.

Not a bad choice though. You'll be very happy with the gas mileage at least smile.gif
